"This is it," My mom said pulling up in front of a small apartment complex "this is the end of the line" I sighed and got out of the car. My mom had just moved us from Baltimore to Reseda. I looked around at the complex, it was pretty shitty.
"Let's get the boxes" My mom sighed
"Which room is mine?" I asked
"Whichever room is smaller" she mumbled, I knew she was really tired. I took a box and found the smallest room. We made a few trips before the car was emptied of all boxes. I started to unpack all my clothes and toiletries. We didn't have a whole crap ton of stuff so it was pretty easy to unpack.
After I put my things in the bathroom and folded all my clothes I took out my room decor. Our house in Baltimore was much larger than this but it was kind of expensive to live here in Reseda. I put my sheets, comforter, and cow print blanket on my bed, then I put the matching pillows on the bed. I liked my room to be simple not with a lot of crazy lights.
I had no idea what I would do here, in Baltimore I played lacrosse but at my new school, they didn't have many sports options, I could try out for soccer but I never really got into that sport.
"Aella please take the trash out" my mom yelled from her room
"Got it mom" I gathered the trash and took it outside, I walked around for a bit before I found the trash and recycling cans, I walked over quickly, not realizing that a kid about my age was right behind me
"Hey I'm Miguel" I turned around and a kid with black hair was talking to a man with blonde hair who looked highly annoyed "my family and I just moved into 109" he continued
"Great more immigrants," the man said and I rolled my eyes, that was pretty rude. Miguel looked confused but not offended
"Actually we are from Riverside, but anyways I was just wondering if you were having trouble with your water pressure cause our sink is being a little weird right now," Miguel told the man
The pair of them walked over to where I was throwing my trash out and the man was opening the wrong trash bin, Miguel seemed to notice and decided to say something
"Oh bottles go in the blue can" Miguel groaned and the man turned to face him looking done with him
"Listen" he growled "I've lived in this shit for over ten years, the pipes don't work the fountain is full of piss and the only good thing about living here is that I don't have to talk to anyone, so nice knowing you"
He walked away "have a nice day then" Miguel called after him and I tried to control my laughter I couldn't help it, I needed to laugh, Miguel then turned around to look at me and I wondered if I should have walked away
"Oh, hi I'm Miguel," he said giving me a smile, I decided to be nice and smile back even though I didn't want him to annoy me
"I'm Aella," I told him "my mom and I just moved here too" Miguel nodded
"That's cool, where are you going to school?" he asked
"West Valley High," I told him "what about you" and he smiled even bigger which at this point I didn't think was humanly possible.
"That's where I'm going too," he said excitedly "do you want to walk together tomorrow, I don't have a car so we can't drive"
I giggled "I can drive us, I got my license over the summer" Miguel seemed to be alright with that, he actually seemed rather excited
"Ok, well I have to go eat lunch but I'll see you tomorrow Aella" he yelled and then went into his apartment closing the door
Miguel was nice, very energetic though but I feel like he would be a really good friend. I had to find a job soon and some after-school activities. Making friends was a whole other problem
"I didn't know taking the trash out took so long" my mom laughed "did you meet someone," she asked smiling, I knew she was probably watching from out the window
"Yeah, I met our neighbor Miguel he's going to go to the same school I am so I told him that I would drive him tomorrow"
"Ok that sounds good, see you already have friends," she said and I rolled my eyes, she was always telling me that I make friends super quickly but I wasn't quite sure
"not really mom" I shook my head and walked into my room. I decided to set up the wifi so that I could watch Netflix, my favorite show right now is grey's anatomy, I used to like Riverdale but after the second season it went downhill, I don't even know what that show is anymore I mean I kinda lost in when Jughead faked his death, that was it, I was done.
I took a bag of Doritos and ate them while I watched, back in Baltimore I did this routine whenever something bad was going on. I once watched Grey's anatomy for a whole day because I was ignoring my boyfriend at the time. He had gotten mad that I tagged my guy friend in a photo on Instagram and then he sent me a whole paragraph or reasons why he didn't think I like him. (That was based on real events btw lol)

Around dinner time my mom told me to go get us some pizza from the Mini Mart down the block, I didn't like walking alone but my mom told me that I would be fine. I walked into the mini-mart and saw Miguel buying Pepto Bismol.
"Hey," I said standing next to him, he jumped back looking embarrassed
"oh this is for my grandma," he said quickly making me laugh
"I wasn't going to say anything, I just came for pizza" at my words he let out a sigh of relief that I wouldn't make fun of him, that wasn't who I am, I don't make fun of people for my own pleasure
I walked up to the pizza and saw the man from earlier picking his slice of pizza, the buy behind the counter grabbed it without using gloves or anything, I almost barfed and to make it worse he had a band-aid on
"Are you gonna wear gloves" the blonde spat at the man behind the counter "can you put that on a plate" the man behind the counter held the pizza while he dug around for a plate. Miguel, the man, and I watched in horror as he squished the pizza with his grimy hands that had brownish nails
"My grandma is not feeling well," Miguel told the man while he waited
"Didn't ask" the man replied rudely "come on just give me the damn slice" he yelled at the guy who said something in Spanish to Miguel who chuckled a bit
"What did you say," the blonde asked looking at Miguel who was trying not to laugh "what did he say" oh so now he was talking to Miguel
"He said you have a tiny wang" Miguel told him and I cracked up, the man gave me a very dirty look before turning back to the guy behind the counter
"You said I have a tiny wang, you have a tiny wang" he spat at the man behind the counter "you have a tiny wang, then he grabbed his pizza from the guy's hand
Miguel and I laughed as the man walked away "what's his name?" I asked the guy behind the register
"Johnny" he grumbled rolling his eyes at Johnny's back
I decided not to get pizza because of the lack of sanitaryness. (what is my language, I don't even think sanitaryness is a word) I walked out of the mini-mart and passed a bunch of guys who looked my age, the looked mean and I hoped they didn't go to school with me, they did seem out of place because they had a fancy jeep and nice clothes with watches
"What the fuck" one of the guys yelled as I was walking away, "he thought we were in college dumbass" Miguel was backing away from the enraged group
"I didn't know you guys were trying to buy beer, I'm sorry" Miguel yelled desperately, then the boy with the weird black haircut threw him to the ground while laughing
"What does he have here," one of the guys asked pulling out the Pepto "oh shit he has diarrhea" they all laughed "we should call him Rhea" without warning they dumped the stuff all over Miguel's head, the pink liquid trickled down his face almost getting in his eyes
"Leave him alone" I yelled and all the boys looked at me surprised
"Aw looks like Rhea got himself a girlfriend" one of them laughed and walked towards me grabbing my waist I tried to push his hand off but he was way too strong
"get off of me," I told him but he didn't let go so I kicked him in the stomach with as much strength as possible. At that moment another boy pinned me to a red car in the lot
"Hey watch the car man" Johnny yelled getting up and glaring at the group "leave the dorks alone" hey, I'm not a dork, that war rude
"See this guy, he has dinner at the Mini-mart like a bum" a guy with red hair laughed "wait I think I know this guy"
"He's that guy that cleaned my dad's septic tank" the boy with the stupid haircut smirked looking at his friends for approval on the joke he had just made
"Ooh that explains why he smells like shit" the fat one yelled laughing super hard
"Trust me you guys are pissing off the wrong guy, on the wrong night" Johnny warned and the weird haircut guy pushed him, then without warning he kicked one of them in the face. Johnny took out all of them with karate, Miguel and I were staring at him with our mouths open how did he do that? I wanted to learn, maybe that'll be an after school activity
The boys were determined to win but Johnny was too strong "holy shit how did you do that" Miguel asked as one of the boys charged at Johnny again flipping him on the ground on his back, which looked painful
"Is that all you got ladies?" Johnny asked, I didn't think it was a good idea to taunt them but whatever, it was his funeral. Of course, once Johnny got the boy in a headlock the cops showed up and the situation looked bad
"Hey get off the kid" a cop yelled pepper-spraying Johnny in the face, Johnny cried out in pain as another cop hit him over the head
"Hey, hey it's not his fault" Miguel yelled "right," he said looking at me for backup
"Yeah, those kids attacked Miguel he was just defending him" I cried out but the cops didn't listen I mean who would listen to silly little school kids. They got Johnny in the cop car and drove away
"That was crazy," I said to Miguel as we walked back to the apartment complex "sorry about your hair" his hair was all sticky and shooting up in every direction
"It's alright, I'll wash it out" he laughed feeling it in his hands, he winced but the smile soon returned to his face "see you tomorrow Aella"
"Bye Miguel" I waved, my first day here and I already witnessed a fight, maybe it wasn't all like that I'm sure school would be much more peaceful, at least I hoped so but if those guys were there, who knows what would happen.
"Aella" my mom was waiting by the door "what took you so long?"
"Let's just say there was a bit of karate and I didn't get the pizza"
