"oh. hi."
[ jihoon's in his studio with his purple neon lights on. it's late at night- very late at night- and he's decided to log on his instagram and do something. he's been wanting to do one of these lives lately, where he'd just sit there and sing his little heart out. ]
"hello, hello. 'what are you doing up this late?' um, i just wanted to do a little karaoke session."
[ he opens his computer and sets up a playlist, mixing in other artists' songs with his group's own ballads. in all honesty though, he's noticed that soonyoung, fellow group mate and leader, has been up at the company building very often. ]
"i thought of doing this live so that people can enjoy their time. whether it be early in the morning or late at night or even a busy afternoon, i hope that this collection of songs will help you pause and relax, even for a little while."
[ he doesn't say it, but it's for soonyoung. he's tried vlive, but he never gets a call or message from him. now he's on instagram, hoping that soonyoung will be caught by the fact that jihoon's live. on instagram. he starts with some lighter and more upbeat songs, occasionally taking requests from fans. but as the night draws later and the clock hits 3am, he's singing soulful ballads. he thinks these songs must've been made for him. ]
"okay, the next song is special,"
[ everyone in the live thinks it's his solo, what kind of future, of which he's said many a time before how special and precious he holds it to his heart. but it's not. ]
"it's a MAMAMOO song, hope you enjoy."
[ he has someone in mind when he says it. ]

[ though, yes he had soonyoung in mind when he picked this song, jihoon still wonders how these songs could connect to him so well. he closes his eyes while he leans so casually in his studio chair.]

[ he'll never tell anyone, but soonyoung has been catching the interest of his heart recently. and it's getting so much worse, so quickly. he always tries to play all of soonyoung's "advances" off like he hates them but he really does love it when soonyoung's all clingy and cute and just wants to be constantly in jihoon's orbit. ]

[ jihoon sings in the original key of the four women and it's truly amazing how talented he is. the song is coming to a close and he's thinking about ending the live soon. ]

[ it's been 2 hours and he doesn't think he has enough space on his phone for this. maybe he'll use his computer. ]

[ he thinks about soonyoung more than he'd like to admit. even now just covering an innocent song, he's thinking about soonyoung and his laughter and attempts at jokes that makes jihoon's heart swell up. soonyoung's attitude toward things in life is so admirable; the way he lives is addicting and jihoon so badly wants to be a part of that. even as he softly vibes to the instrumental playing right now, he's thinking of soonyoung. two things- sleep and soonyoung. and maybe... sleeping with soonyoung? he has more to sing. he's not done yet. his eyes fly open. ]

[ in the fading instrumental, jihoon closes the live. ]
"ah, i think i'll end the live now. it's been a great 2 hours. i'm very tired and those of us who have to go to bed, let's go sleep now, okay?"
[ he tiredly smiles at his phone. just then, the studio door opens. ]
"jihoon, ah."
[ jihoon bolts out of his chair so quick. ]
"soonyoung?"
[ he remembers the live and goes to shut it down. he'll save it later. ]
"what are you doing here?"
"i saw the live. i heard you singing. why did you end on words don't come easy?"
"i just thought it was a good one to end it on."
[ silence. it hurts jihoon. it hurts that he can't say what he wants to right now. it really was a good song to end the live on, huh? ]
"no, i don't believe so."
"it wasn't a good one?"
"it was. but that's not the reason you chose it."
"then what is?"
"it means something, doesn't it?"
[ soonyoung sits on the sofa adjacent to jihoon's little workspace. he never looks away from jihoon, never breaks eye contact. the whole room is spinning and jihoon doesn't think he can make it. he wobbles onto his studio chair. ]
"words don't come easy... what are you trying to say, jihoon-ah?"
[ jihoon tries to form words but all that comes out is jumbled nonsense. soonyoung using such a carefree way of saying jihoon's name is doing something to him and he doesn't know if he likes it or not. ]
"that... it's not easy to say... things. sometimes."
"okay."
[ soonyoung hums like he's thinking something over. jihoon's feeling very hot and room hasn't stopped spinning since soonyoung walked in. everything hurts. ]
"please... stop,"
[ jihoon sounds pained and soonyoung's worrying that he's taking things too far. ]
"ji? are you okay? what's wrong?"
"let me go home. please."
[ jihoon feels sick, he feels pain, he's hurting and the room's spinning, he's feeling so hot and his head is pounding, all he wants to do is go home and sleep this pain away. he wants to cry. the tension in the room is sickening. soonyoung has him in his arms and he feels worse. but he doesn't want to say anything to make soonyoung feel sad or unwanted. ]
"everything hurts, soon..."
"i'm so sorry."
[ he wants to say that it's not his fault. but then he'd be lying and jihoon doesn't like to lie. soonyoung knows and reads him like his favourite storybook. ]
"so i did cause it. i'm sorry, ji. i didn't mean to."
"...please let me go home."
[ when the two arrive at their apartment, jihoon does nothing more but head straight to his room. soonyoung stops him by pulling the sleeve of his jacket. ]
"let me go, soon."
"no. tell me everything. what was that live about? what were all those lives about?"
[ jihoon's stunned. he knows about the other lives? ]
"i know you did them, ji. i couldn't watch them, though. i was always busy. but i wasn't today."
[ silence. ]
"why use instagram today?"
"figured you would have seen it."
"ah, so they were for me to see?"
[ fuck, he gave it away. ]
"maybe."
[ the two sit in the 4am light in the living room, speaking softly so the others don't hear. jihoon's so drained and soonyoung doesn't want to keep him very long. but at the same time, he's hoping that the smaller might want cuddles if he's tired enough. ]
"tell me what words don't come easy was for."
"isn't it obvious? there's something i want to say to you but i can never find the words to."
"there's something more though. what do the lyrics in the verses meaning? to you, especially."
[ jihoon gulps. he's fucked. soonyoung knows for sure! but he's just getting jihoon to say it. what a sick, sick pleasure. ]
"nothing. i want to sleep. good night."
[ jihoon gets pulled back to the sofa and he's looking directly into soonyoung's eyes. ]
"say it in three words. i know you can."
[ jihoon decides this is the time to do it. soonyoung is practically asking for it at this point. like, actually asking for it. ]
"i like you, soon."
"that's four, but i'll accept it."
[ jihoon doesn't know what to do. but he really wants to sleep. ]
"can i sleep now?"
[ he's wondering how he can be so nonchalant about this. on the inside, he's a mess and a half. but tiredness is taking over him. ]
"will you sleep with me?"
"..."
"not in that way... yet. come on, ji. i know you want cuddles right now. let's go."
[ jihoon can't process the innuendo and just lets himself get dragged by soonyoung into his room. he lets soonyoung take his jacket and all the stuff he doesn't need off and lets him tuck him into bed. the sheets are warm, soonyoung's warm, and jihoon is drifting easily off to sleep. ]
"just to clarify, i do like you too. i hope i get to kiss you tomorrow morning- or in a few hours when we wake up. sweet dreams, ji."
[ the younger is passed out, soonyoung's arm and leg adding a second layer of warmth to cushion his dreams as the two sleep well into the next afternoon. time is a social construct anyway, and all that's important is that jihoon's finally found the words to say to soonyoung and seungcheol can rest in peace from the constant vlive notifications. ]

the idea seriously came to me while listening to words don't come easy while moping about one night so yayy at least something good came out of it
