"THAT GIT," ELODIE SAYS ANGRILY, AFTER SEATING HERSELF AT GRYFFINDOR TABLE. Penelope sitting right next to her, "He's such an idiot - can you believe it, Pen? He caused all this!"
"I know," she replied, angry on my behalf, "Orin's such a prat. Eavesdropping like that. But you know what he's like - !"
She nodded, staying silent. Penelope smirked, "I'm going to talk to McGonagall, schedule him into the worst detention slot ever. Something with Filch - the man has no mercy. He had no right to call you that!"
"Good idea," she said, laughing maliciously.
"Anyway," Penelope continues, lowering her voice, "What are you going to do about Ramona? Christmas is coming soon..."
Elodie cursed silently, "Bloody hell, I forgot it's almost christmas... She can't know penny- She'll freak out."
"Who'd freak out?" Fred and George ask Suddenly. Elodie and Penelope jump.
"Gods, Forge! You scared us!" She whispers yelled at them.
"Sorry Pen-" George starts.
"Sorry El-" Fred finishes.
Elodie rolls her eyes. Here they go with the finishing each other's sentences thing....
"So what have you girls been talking about?" Fred asks, smirking. "Ramona frea-" Elodie instantly interrupts. "Christmas!"
Fred and George raise their eyebrows, sharing a look before shrugging. Then George says, "Oi Elodie, mum invited you and Ramona for christmas."
That might not be a good idea...
Sure, she had visited before, but Mona hasn't. Elodie doesn't know how her sister will react to a fully magical family. She shakes her head, "We would love to but-"
"No buts! Mum insists, so owl your sister."
If she knew anything about Mrs. Weasley, she knew the twins were right.
She sighs and nods before turning back to Penelope.
"Are you sure? If she's comfortable around-"
"Penny, Mona has never really been comfortable with the whole 'Wizarding World' thing... plus, she's never met the Weasley's, if she found out about Remus-"
"But she always seemed pretty calm when she spoke about it, I mean, I thought she was pretty cool about it. She never acted like it was uncomfortable for her."
"Well, Ramona is not one to freak out in front of people. She's always thought it was weird, but stuff like this for us normal." Elodie sighs before continuing, "Because there are a lot of werewolves, this is not like he's the first werewolf we've ever heard of, but for her, it wouldn't make sense..."
Penelope nodded, now understanding, "You're right, but it's not that bad, is it? A lot of muggle-borns' families don't understand the wizarding world. She's just not used to it. Especially since she just became your legal guardian." Penelope pauses to seemingly analyze what she's going to say, "You don't have to tell her now, but Elodie, you're his mate. Someone who was destined for him, and I don't think it happens often for werewolves. And if you're feeling the same way he feels, however he feels, one day she will have to know..."
"Yeah, I know, but... not now." she says quietly, "Oi, what have you two been whispering about over there?" Fred asks, looking curiously at us.
"How Elodie blushed red when talking about Professor Lupin..." Heat begins to rise to a lady's face, "Oi! I did not!" Elodie says, her face becoming inflamed.
Penelope rolls her eyes. "Oh whatever, El, you could've fried an egg on your face when you realised he was there."
Fred and George sniggered.
"Penelope!" She cried, punching her friend playfully.
Feeling a little better than she did earlier, allowing herself to enjoy the feast, and the entertainment provided by the ghosts was interesting enough to distract other students from whispering about her.
It was only when Elodie and Penelope were leaving the Great Hall that she remembered the incident with Orin again; she then spotted another Slytherin a few meters away taunting a student.
"The Dementors send their love, Potter!" A boy she recognized as Draco Malfoy.
Her eyes flicked towards Harry, who managed rather admirably to ignore him, though his friend, Fred and George's little brother, Ron Weasley looked like he wanted nothing more than to hex him.
Elodie's mind was so full with frustrated thoughts that when they reached the Gryffindor Tower, it wasn't until Penelope gasped and grabbed her arm that she noticed that something was terribly wrong.
"What?" Elodie asked, quickly following Penelope's gaze and then gasping rather loudly myself.
The portrait of the Fat Lady (who was herself missing) was completely ruined - it looked like someone had slashed it ruthlessly with a knife.
"That's appalling!" She muttered, turning to look back at Penelope. But something else caught her attention; Professor Mcgonagall was standing only two meters away. She was looking up at something, and when Elodie followed her gaze, she realised that Peeves was talking to Professor Dumbledore.
"...Nasty temper he's got, that Sirius Black."
For the third time that evening, Elodie gasped, as did most of the students. The two girls then exchanged anxious glances. Sirius Black, in here? In the castle?
She quickly looked over at the professors. Professor Mcgonagall looked rather worried, and Professor Dumbledore was calling for silence and ordered us off to the Great Hall.
Everyone moved off immediately, talking fervently - some students looked worried, and others down right scared.
"How could he have gotten in the castle?" Penelope asked, "When they've sealed the entrances and put dementors everywhere?"
"I don't know," Elodie replied, biting her lip, "Lucky everyone was at the feast. And why on earth was he headed for Gryffindor tower?"
"I don't know..." she replied, looking just as confused as Elodie did.
In the Great Hall, Penelope and Elodie split up. Elodie joined the other girls from their dorm while Penelope joined the other prefects, standing guard at the entrance to the hall. Dumbledore had called all the students from the other houses and ordered everyone to sleep in here while the teachers searched the castle.
Every now and then, some teachers would come to check up on the students - at about one am, by which time she was constantly yawning, she could've sworn Professor Lupin walked by. Then Professor Mcgonagall appeared.
"Is everything okay here?" she asked a Ravenclaw prefect closest to her.
"Fine, the whispering stopped about an hour ago, most of them are sleeping. Have they found Black?"
Professor Mcgonagall sighed lightly, "No, no sign of him. He seems to have slipped away."
She could've sworn he was looking over at her. She also couldn't help but notice that Lupin did not seem altogether upset at the fact that Black had escaped. But that's nonsense, she thought to myself as she watched Professor Lupin leave. Nonsense, I'm just too tired, I must have imagined it...
