Belle’s POV

I remember a couple days before I was let out, I had to lie curled up on my bed as the stinging pain hit my head for an entire hour! After it, I quickly went to have a shower because that somehow washed all of the pain away. That’s what I did every time my back hurt. It was strange that water could do something like that to me. I had asked Alyssa once if it did that for her and she just shook her head. I loved the water though. Just the feeling of it brushing against my skin and flowing down my back and chest. It always made me feel so calm. I refused to look at the bruise on my back in the mirror, though I did sometimes, giving in to reason.

I was reading a book on my bed when I heard a knock at the hole in the floor. It was too early for lunch and I had already had breakfast, so who was this? I almost bolted to the passage door in excitement. Opening it, I saw Trazellda. My heart sunk a little when I didn’t see Pitario and I even looked around for a second to see if he was around the corner or something. I took a few steps down the stairs to meet Trazellda at the bottom, closing the latch behind me.

“Pitario isn’t here. You and I need to talk though,” she said.

“Oh. What about?” She was silent for a moment.

“Follow me,” she gestured before turning around and starting off. I quickly fixed up my baggy, off shoulder white shirt before following after her. I found it rude if she was to talk to me and I was behind her, so I walked beside her instead.

“Now Belle, when Pitario and I left you, he asked me why you were here. Why you were so special. I must say he is very persistent. You must know that he cares about you. No matter how much he knows about you, what he did to you or how long he’s known you for, he really does care about you. And trust me when I say that he has never cared for anyone as much as he does for you. He may have only known you for a few minutes, but that was all it took.”

“To do what?” I asked.

“Steal his heart. When I found Pitario and after he became a Viacon, I found that evil was gradually taking over his heart, which happens to most Viacons. Though none are ever completely consumed. And when he teased you and you walked off into the forest, he followed you because of this urge that took over his mind. One he had never felt before...”

“Care,” I interrupted, realising. I stole Pitario’s heart? But… I couldn’t have.

“Exactly. He cares about himself and his friends, but he cares about you in a different way,” Trazellda began to explain.

“Most Viacon’s don’t meet the one they love in their lifetimes. The one’s that do, feel they are destined to be together. It is this extremely strong bond between two lovers. And no matter how much you try to avoid it, it will always be there, whether you end up with them or not. It is unbreakable and unavoidable.”

“And you believe Pitario and I have this bond? But how can that be? I love Jacob,” I said.

“Do you?” Trazellda raised an eyebrow at me, making me question it myself. I hadn’t seen him in so long, and now that I thought about it, Pitario crossed my mind more than Jacob had. What was wrong with me?! I couldn’t love Pitario! I hardly knew him. It’s not like I knew Jacob either, but… Jacob and I had been dating ever since I was 14. He told me we had done everything together. Was I just supposed to drop that and go to someone I hardly knew just because of this ‘bond’ I felt with him? I just wanted to hit my head against a wall.

Trazellda was leading me off who knows where. Down corridors and around corners. I was lost but she knew where she was going.

“Anyway, why you’re special. Do you remember when I told you that you are far more extraordinary than you think, but you aren’t a Viacon or an Awakener?”

“Yes,” I replied.

“Well... you aren’t human either.”

“WHAT?!?!?!” I just froze. How could I not be human?! I would understand if I was an Awakener who hadn’t rediscovered my powers yet, but I wasn’t that either! So if I wasn’t an Awakener, a Viacon or human...

“Then what the fuck am I?!” I exclaimed. I rooted my feet to the spot and refused to move until I got an answer. Trazellda turned to me and I could only look at the ground with my mouth gaped open, thinking it over. My mind buzzed a million miles a second.

“Your kind are called Tycarians. They are the rarest creature in all of time and space. A Tycarian is only born or created or grown or whatever, every two billion years. Just one. And that one is you.”

“But, my parents...”

“They are your true parents, do not worry. But what you are is a result of a genetic mutation. It is the slightest difference to your DNA or gene pool that makes you differ between humans and Specialities. This minuscule change in your DNA makes your entire body structure slightly different. Ever wondered why you’re so flexible? Why you’re drawn to water? Why your body suddenly takes over and you don’t remember a thing? That’s because it’s your Tycarian instinct kicking in. It’s who you are,” Trazellda said.

“But, what about these pains I keep getting? The zapping in my head?” I asked. Trazellda looked a little shocked for a moment before coming to realise.

“That is your connection with Jacob.”

“What?” I asked. Trazellda was standing right in front of me with a slight look of understanding in her eyes.

“Jacob is using his tracking ability to try and find where you are. But because Canaan is protected from Awakener abilities, he cannot get through. The zap you feel is the tiny pulse he sends out. He feels it too,” she said. We started walking again.

“You’re parents are both Awakeners, and it is rare for one Awakener to have a baby with another. That might have increased the chances of you being a Tycarian, but no one will ever be sure.”

“Wait! My parents are Awakeners? Both of them?!”

“Yes,” was all Trazellda said. This was a lot to take in. First I supposedly stole the heart of a satyr I hardly knew, then I find out that not only am I not human and have two Awakener parents, but I’m some creature that’s only created ever two billion years! I was almost hyperventilating, so I took a few deep breaths.

“I know you are thinking over a lot right now, but you must understand that I brought you here for a reason?”

“And what is that?” I somehow managed to ask. Trazellda was silent the rest of the way to her lair thingy with the throne and such. She took her seat, facing the screens. I walked up beside her and she made a seat appear for me to sit on. It was comfy too; like a mini throne. I just watched the screens. All of them were different places around Canaan.

“Belle…” she sounded slightly upset, “While you were resting over the past couple of weeks, the humans have discovered our existence,” she said. My heart stopped for a minute and I had to swallow hard as to keep the blood flowing.

“But… but how?” I looked to her desperately in response.

“That’s not important. But, I knew this was going to happen, I predicted it. That is why I brought you here, to protect you. Just in case the humans thought you might be an Awakener and might try to kill you as they have attempted to with many Specialities,” she looked over at me, our eyes locking. From the look in her eyes, I knew this was deadly serious. She looked so worried. Not just that, but it was like this was the worst thing that she had ever predicted in her hundreds of years of existence.

“But why protect me?”

“Because you’re a Tycarian,” she replied.

“Well, yeah, I got that. But why do I need special protection?”

“Because you are our secret weapon,” Trazellda said, looking back at the screens.

“Secret weapon? For what?” I asked.

“The war.”

“The war? Between who? The humans and the Specialities?”

“Yes.”

“Surely you can stop the war from happening! If you can predict that it was going to happen, can you not predict how it will end and tell the world the devastation it would cause our planet?” I asked, hoping that there would be a way to prevent it. We didn’t need any more wars on this planet.

“The humans shan’t hesitate to kill us…”

“But what about us to them? Viacon’s kill humans, but Awakeners never have…” Trazellda's head shot around to me and confusion and anger filled her eyes.

“What? Viacon’s would never harm a human being,” Trazellda said, narrowing her eyes lightly.

“But Jacob told me…” I just froze and drifted off. I lowered my head and thought about this for a moment. But that meant that… Jacob had lied to me? I got a little bit of a shock when a hand touched my shoulder.

“Why… why would Jacob lie to me?” I asked, tears welling in my eyes. What else had he lied about?

“I don’t know.” Trazellda searched through my memories.

“He’s lied to you…” she said.

“About what?” I asked.

“Viacon’s aren’t on earth to stop Awakeners. We serve the same purpose Awakeners do; to help the planet survive. Some Viacon’s only attack Awakeners for fun. Just like some Awakener’s kill Viacon’s for fun. We’re always seen as the bad guys when we’re truly equals. Some Awakener’s think that just because majority of us are animals or creatures, that we are below them and want you dead. We don’t absorb your energy. We get energy the same way every other creature does, through eating and exercising. I’m sorry, but he’s also lied to you about countless other things.”

“Such as…?”

“He wasn’t at home when you were in the car accident.”

“Where was he?” I asked.

Jacob’s POV

After the while of running, I was out of the city, so I made a hang glider appear and rode that to my destination. I was just gliding over a distant forest, when I came across a clearing with a beautiful, crystal clear waterfall. I was close, I knew it. Then suddenly, I felt I needed to suck under the trees, so I hung low. Then beneath me just disappeared and I was hovering over a giant hole that seemed to continue for miles underground. Belle was down there. She had to be. So down I dove with my hang glider. It got hotter gradually, and it looked like I was heading towards a light of some sought. How come no one had ever come here before? Then I looked up to where I had come from and I saw the hole had closed up. Oh, well there you go. When I reached the bottom of the tunnel, I made the hang glider disappear and landed on soil.

“Oh my god,” was all I could say. I was looking over this entire new world. There were creatures flying everywhere. There was a beach off in the distance to the left corner, a sun at the top of the cave, forests, mountains, and what looked to be a normal blue sky. This must be where the Viacon’s hide out. A world within our world. Holy shit. I watched the drop off where I would have to jump and didn’t see any Viacons, do I jumped onto the ground. I went to use my super speed to the biggest mountain, which must have been at least four kilometres away, but I couldn’t. What? My powers, they weren’t working here. Walking it is. I had to be super cautious about where I went though. Stealthy.

Belle’s POV

Trazellda had said I was free to go outside, and the first thing I wanted to do was go to the forest. I almost ran down the stairs without shoes, just wearing my baggy top and shorts. Opening the door, I breathed in as much of the fresh air as I could. Oh god it felt good to be out. At that moment, I didn’t care if were to get blisters. I just walked straight for the forest in front of me. The same one I had stormed into after Pitario and I had argued. That’s something else I had to do; find Pitario.

I walked through the forest for a while, and suddenly, I could hear music. It was a slow, sweet song that sounded very romantic, coming from a pan flute. It was so beautiful. I was surrounded by pine trees and there was a soft breeze as I walked towards where the music was coming from. It was so hypnotising and it felt like I was being pulled towards it by my chest. As I neared it, it got louder. Then I came into a clearing. It was like a field of shin high grass. Each gust of wind looked like a breeze that shimmered slightly. It was beautiful. I noticed about twenty metres away, standing facing the other direction, was Pitario, playing his pan flute.

“Pitario!” I squealed. He turned around in shock and I ran to him. Thankfully he met me half way. He wrapped his arms around my waist and spun me around. I hadn’t realised how much I had missed him. I giggled and couldn’t stop smiling.

“I missed you so much! I couldn’t stop worrying about you! Oh! I found out why you’re so special!”

“I already know. Trazellda told me.” He put me down and I just hugged him.

“Thank you again for everything,” I said, still holding him. I may not have all of my memories, but I had him. And right now, that was all that mattered. He hugged me back and held me against his warm body. I felt like crying. I had missed him so much. Though I had only known him for about an two hours before I was locked in my room.

“What about the pain? The moving bruise?” he asked.

“I haven’t looked at it much, but it doesn’t seem to have changed at all and I can’t feel any pain anymore.”

“You got used to it?”

“Yeah.” We just kept holding each other.

“Trazellda told all of us about the war. I can’t let you go out there, Belle. It’s too dangerous!” Pitario said, holding me closer.

“I don’t even know what I’m supposed to do as ‘the secret weapon’. I don’t have any powers!” I said. Eventually, we both pulled away.

“I can’t let the humans come anywhere near you,” Pitario said, moving a stray piece of hair from my face.

“Is that because I’m the Tycarian or...”

“No! It’s not because of what you are. It’s because... when I first met you, I thought you were just some crazy human, but then, the moment you walked away, my body was being overtaken with something else. A feeling I’d never felt before. This sounds so cheesy, but it was like I had... some kind of connection with you. Like I needed to be close to you. That’s why I walked into the forest to find you. But... I know I can’t feel this way because you have a man back home,” Pitario just ruined our moment by mentioning Jacob. I sat in the grass while holding Pitario’s hand, causing him to join me. We just lay there, looking at the sky. Birds of all sought and flying creatures glided above us as we stared at the crystal blue.

I think we were lying there in silence for a good two hours. The sky was beginning to turn pink and various shades of orange. It was beautiful. Then clouds came over and I began to smell the swift air, telling me it was going to rain.

“We should probably get going. It’s going to rain soon,” I said. Pitario stood and held my hand to lift me up. He put on hand on my waist and left his pan flute hooked on his belt. With one hand clasped in mine, he began to dance.

“What are you doing?” I giggled.

“Dancing,” he said.

“But there’s no music,” I smiled. He just smiled back and I began to hear violins and flutes, playing a soft and sweet melody. As I looked to the trees, I noticed nymphs playing tiny instruments. I couldn’t help but giggle at this. My eyes locked onto his and we danced hand in hand. Heart in heart. It was like the rest of the world wasn’t there and it was only Pitario and I.

Jacob's POV

I had been walking, hiding and such for the past couple of hours. I knew Belle was in here. And I was getting close. After a while more of walking, I began to hear very faint, distant music. It was a romantic set of violins and flutes. What? I started walking towards the music and as I neared, it got louder. I didn’t think this would help me at all to find Belle, but I followed it anyway. Then, a sudden raindrop fell on my cheek. Rain? It could rain in here? Yay.

Pitario’s POV

As Belle and I danced, I felt a drop of rain land on my nose, but ignored it. Belle and I could dance in the rain. That was fine with me. Belle didn’t seem to notice as the raindrops became more frequent, so I blocked it out of my mind and just focused on Belle and I. My eyes stayed locked on hers as our bodies intertwined. The strange feeling I felt for her, was enormously strong, and I felt like she could feel it too. This bond, this connection.

So we danced in the rain and didn’t care. We had each other and we were perfectly happy with that.

“Belle!!” I heard someone yell. We both froze and turned in shock to the voice. I had no idea who this guy was, but from the horrified look on Belle’s face, I knew. It was Jacob.
