Dan's POV

"Hey Dan?" Frank and Gerard walked into to Jamie's room and they both frowned when they saw her

curled up with her back pressed against the wall.

"James?" Gerard started towards her and he stopped for a moment when Jamie spoke.

"Don't sit there."

"Wh- What?"

"Phil's sitting here." Jamie nodded towards her right side without taking her head out of her arms.

Gerard frowned a little once he realized what she was talking about and he settled for sitting on her other side.

Phil looked over at me confused. "How did she know I was here?" I shrugged and carefully closed

the notebook and sat on it so the others wouldn't see it.

"Jamie, what's…" Gerard trailed off, realizing that it was highly unlikely that Jamie would say

anything. He hugged her close to him and buried his face in her green hair that needed to be redyed very badly.

Frank looked over at me, finally recognizing my presence. "What's going on with her?"

I shrugged and shook my head slightly. "I don't know." Okay, so that was a fat lie, but I promised her

not to say anything, only Phil could know.

Frank frowned and pulled Gerard up from the bed. "I think we should get someone."

"No!" Jamie's head popped up and she looked at them with such panic that I didn't even know was

possible. "No, please, I- I'm fine. I promise." Frank gave her a doubtful look and Gerard just looked helpless. "Please don't say anything." Jamie spoke in a quieter voice now and Frank and Gerard looked at each other, silently debating just by looking at each other.

"You need to eat." Jamie opened her mouth to speak, but Frank spoke again before she could say

anything. "You're becoming anorexic, Jamie." She frowned and looked down at her wrists. She held one up right and looked at it. Phil took this opportunity to wrap his hand around her wrist, being careful that his hand didn't go through the body part, and he frowned when his finger tips touched.

"Dan." I nodded to him and he released her wrist just before she laid it on top of her knees again.

"Come on." Frank commanded and opened the door. "Lunch starts soon." He looked at Gerard before

leaving the room. Gerard looked at Jamie one last time before he followed his boyfriend out of the room.

Jamie looked over at me and frowned. "Come on, I'm hungry." I spoke to her softly as I walked over

to her and offered my hand. She starred at my hand for some time before she finally reached out and took it. She stood and almost collapsed. "Jamie!" I caught her just before her knees could hit the ground and I carefully lifted her up. "What happened?"

"I got…. dizzy." She held her head as she tried to stand up straight. "I think I'll be fine." She

whispered to me and pushed away my help. I watched her place her hand against the door frame for support as she walked past it and she kept pressing against the wall for support as she entered the hall.

"She's not well at all." Phil mumbled as he stepped up next to me.

"Obviously." Phil frowned at me for the sarcasm as we left the room and caught up to Jamie. "Come

here." I grabbed her arm and wrapped it around my waist.

"Dan-"

"You could have leaned on a door and had it opened as you were leaning on it." Jamie gave me a

look, but allowed me to help her to the cafeteria. The woman behind the food frowned, taking in Jamie's obvious state and offered to make her tray. Jamie nodded, feeling too tired, and she walked to the end of the line by herself so I could get some food.

"I don't need any today Dan." I looked over at him shocked and sad all at the same time. "Dan I can't

eat, you don't have to keep getting me food everyday."

"But-" I stopped speaking when he just smiled and walked over to the booth. I frowned and quickly

got my food and followed behind Jamie.

"Wow, look who came out to eat today."

"I'm too tired for this Mikey." Jamie pushed her food around and Phil glared at her as I sat next to

him.

"Yeah, you're too damn tired because you're fucking anorexic."

"I'm not-" Jamie stopped shouting and grabbed her head.

"Eat." Frank ordered and Jamie rubbed her forehead as she took a forkful of salad up to her mouth.

*****

"So how do you feel after your first meal?" I helped Jamie back to her room, pleased that she has

finally eaten, but she didn't look too good.

"I feel sick."

"Dan, I told you she was eating too much. She's going to get sick."

"Phil-" Jamie threw her bedroom door open and rushed into her bathroom and barely made it into her

toilet. Phil looked over at me with a slight 'told you so' look and I sighed. I closed the bedroom door and went up behind Jamie to hold her hair back.

"I think I-" She was cut off by more vomit and I scrunched my nose because of the smell. "I think I

ate too much." She vomited again and I frowned.

"Phil warned me of that, but I thought he was just being paranoid."

"Frank kept warning me as well, but I was eating so slow I didn't even think I was eating that much."

She sat back on her butt and I let her hair go as she started to pull it back into a ponytail holder. "My hair's getting really gross." Jamie frowned at her faded green dye and Phil and I chuckled.

"I can help you redye it, after you clean up from vomiting that is." She poked her tongue out at me,

but she started to stand up. I grabbed one of her arms and helped her up. "I'll leave you to clean up. Do you have the dye here?"

"Yeah, it's in my nightstand. There's a towel with stains all over it in the wardrobe, sitting on the

bottom." I nodded and got the dye first. "Disposable gloves should be with the dye." I laughed a little since I had already found the gloves. I got the towel out of her wardrobe and I was about to close the door when I saw all of the straight jackets hanging on the hangers.

"What cha looking at?" Jamie walked up next to me, smelling like peppermint toothpaste, and she put

her hands on her hips as she tried to figure out what I was looking at.

"I just don't understand why you have so many…"

"Straight jackets?" I nodded when she finished my sentence for me. "Well they do get dirty, Daniel."

Phil chuckled a little, but I didn't pay him any attention.

"I just didn't think you needed so many." She nodded, understanding where I was coming from. "Why don't you just wear long sleeve tees or sweat shirts?" I slowly closed the wardrobe as Jamie

pulled out her desk chair and put the dye and gloves on the desk.

"I… don't know…. I just find straight jackets comforting." She shrugged and curled her fingers

around the long sleeves even more. I looked over at Phil to see a look of deep thought covering his face. "I forgot about getting a bowl out. We're gonna need the other stained towel by the way." I nodded and got the other towel without looking at the jackets again. "Have you ever dyed hair before?"

"I helped Phil dye his hair for Halloween once."

"So you have like no experience with it." I smiled shyly and she laughed at me. "Whelp, I need to

take this off so…" She turned around and motioned towards her back. I walked forward and started undoing her straight jacket, with some difficulty, as Phil started talking to me.

"Dan… I think she wears them because they cover her burns." I was about to say something when he

continued. "And… I think she likes having the sleeves long enough to cover her hands as well. Not many tees are long enough to cover her hands." I nodded, understanding, as I finished with Jamie's jacket.

"Thanks." She smiled at me and tossed the jacket onto her bed. She smiled shyly and scratched her

head as I looked at her bare arms for the first time.

"Dan." Phil waved his hand in front of my face and I snapped out of it.

"Sorry… It's just…"

"Shocking to see?" She was about to rub her burns, but she stopped herself and tugged on the bottom

of her tank top, that was obviously a guy's tank, and she smiled again. "So uh, ready?"

"Yeah, yeah sorry."

"Oh, stain shirt, I need that." She dug in her dresser and pulled a gray tee shirt with dye stains out. "Alright," She pulled it over her head and ruffled her hair so it was all out of her shirt. "Now we can

start." She smiled at me through her mirror and I pulled some gloves on.

"Are you gonna tell her?" Phil whispered, even though there was no way for Jamie to hear him. He

sat on her desk where the dye products weren't set out. I nodded and squeeze the dye into the bowl. "Well…" I looked up at him with raised eyebrows. "When?"

"I will just… stop." I grumbled at him and Jamie looked up at me through the mirror.

"What did he say?"

"Well now you have to tell her." I glared at him and he shrugged his shoulders as he crossed his arms

over his chest.

"Uh… He's nagging me about telling you something."

"Oooh, what's the something?" She teased me and smiled. I was about to destroy that smile.

"Well… when you uh, went to the bathroom at lunch… the guys told me something that uh.. They

weren't sure how to tell you… themselves…"

She furrowed her dark brown eyebrows at me. "Okay."

"You know how Mikey gets…"

"Moody? Pissy? Bitchy? All of the above?" The way she asked, it was like she knew where I was

going with this.

"Uh, yeah." She nodded as I continued to try and spread dye throughout her hair evenly with my

fingers. "Well…" I bit my lower lip and looked to Phil for help. Jamie noticed and looked between me and where I was staring.

"Phil can't speak to me so he's not gonna be helpful, Dan."

"Just… repeat what I say…" Phil spoke slowly, uncertain of himself. I nodded and he sat and thought

before he began. "Ask her about when Mikey would visit her the past few days." I did as told and Jamie furrowed her eyebrows again at the semi random question.

"He would come in, say my name to see if I'm up, put a hand on my shoulder which I would then

hold, the first day he asked me what was going on, but the other days he just sat there, quiet and angry." She looked down at her hands as she carefully traced her fingers over the burns on her left arm. I looked over at Phil and he thought before speaking again.

"He claims that…" I repeated what Phil said word for word and Jamie patiently waited and listened.

"He doesn't want to…." While Phil was trying to think of how to explain it, Jamie spoke up.

"He doesn't want to date me anymore because I now have more problems than him and Gerard

combined." Phil and I just looked at her, not sure if we should say anything or just nod. She looked down at her hands again, "I don't blame him." Phil and I both looked at her funny. She looked up at me through the mirror, "Thanks for telling me Dan… and uh, Phil." She looked over to the right side of her desk where Phil was sitting and he looked up at me again.

"What does she mean-"

"-you don't blame him?" Phil and I asked the same question at the same time, but Phil stopped talking

once he realized we were saying the same thing.

"Whelp, things with us before still weren't all that great. He was either having weird mood swings

because of his condition or because of his medicine or because of both. And if it wasn't him then it was me being too scared that he'd find out about-" She stopped talking and looked up at me through the mirror with wide eyes; she was too afraid to say it out loud.

"The fire." Phil finished for her and I nodded.

"So… Are you upset? Or uh hurt?" She shrugged and started to pick at her burns. "Hey." I grabbed

her hand and instantly regretted it since I got dye all over her hand. "Oops."

She laughed and reached for one of the towels. "It's fine, I shouldn't have been doing that." I looked

back at the skin she had irritated and frowned. "Are you almost done?"

"I uh think so?" I had no idea if I was done or not. She chuckled and pulled on some gloves as well.

She checked all of her hair and then decided to add some more dye in some places. I took my gloves off and tossed them into the trash. "So will it be the same color as before?"

"Well," She took a pause to check her hair again. "I didn't bleach it first, like I did the first time, so

I'm adding green dye on top of green dye, which will probably make it a darker green."

"Well that was a long answer." I laughed at Phil and Jamie looked over at me through the mirror. I

coughed to stop my laughing and then shut my mouth. She laughed at me and finished with checking her hair.

"Alrighty." She took her gloves off and threw them away. "Just gotta let it sit then I can rinse out the

extra dye."

I smiled at her before I got an idea. "Hey, if I asked to make a call, would they let me?"

"Oh yeah, just go to the desk and they'll let you use their phone." She smiled at me as she tossed the

bowl and empty dye bottle into the trash. "Who are you gonna call?"

"I was gonna call Peej and ask him if he could send me something."

"Peej?" She looked at me really confused as she tossed the towels and her grey tee shirt into her

laundry basket.

"PJ, the guy who uh… brought me here." I pressed my lips together as the memory of coming here

and why I had to come here came back.

"Oh right! The guy with curly hair and green eyes." She smiled at me and I rose an eyebrow at her.

"Wow, I didn't even remember that much about him when I first met him." Phil commented and I

nodded a little so he'd know I heard him.

"You remember that?"

"Yeah… I have a thing for remembering faces." She smiled at me and I nodded.

"I was never good with remembering people." She laughed and pushed her chair back in.

"You can go ahead and make your call now." She smiled at me again and I smiled in response before

stepping out of her room.

"So what are you calling Peej for?" Phil looked at me with pure curiosity as we walked down the

hall.

"I'm gonna ask him if he could buy her some fun jumpers." I smiled at him and he gave me a slightly

concerned look.

"But we don't know her size."

"Can I call a friend?" I asked Nursed Joy as we stepped up to the front desk.

"Sure. Who are you calling, if you don't mind my asking?" She smiled at me as she moved the phone up onto the counter for me.

"The friend who brought me here. I want to surprise Jamie with some jumpers so she won't have to

wear straight jackets anymore." I smiled at her, but she looked a little confused. "Uh, I think you call jumpers sweat shirts here?"

"Or sweaters." Phil offered happily.

"Right, or sweaters."

"Oh." She smiled at me again. "Well that's very nice of you Dan." I smiled at her shyly. "Press nine

before you dial his number." I nodded and she left me to my phone call.

"About her size," I spoke to Phil again as I dialed PJ's cell number. "I'm just gonna ask him to vary

them between small and medium, that way some fit over sized like she's used to and some fit the way they should for when she feels more comfortable with them." Phil smiled and nodded.

"Oh, maybe some tee shirts as well?" Phil offered another idea and I smiled at him.

"That's a good idea." Phil smiled and leaned on the counter.

"Hello?"

"Hey Peej."

"Dan? You sound a lot better!" I smiled into the phone; he's right, I do sound better.

"Thanks, I feel a lot better."

"So what's up?"

"Can you do me a favor?" Phil and I smiled at each other before I explained to PJ what the favor was.
