"Hi, Bogumie", Kate mocked, clearly tempting you. And if you're a shallow person like her, your fist would probably be on her face right now. But of course, you didn't choose violence just yet, you wouldn't give her the satisfaction to show that she's successfully got under your skin.
Instead, you faced her before saying, "You're funny" with the cutest giggle you could ever produce—you swore all males in the room had the urge to coo at you. And well, guess it backfired since you heard her respond with a matching scoff and eye roll.
With a low chuckle, your best friend smiled at her, acknowledging her presence. He placed his hand on the small of your back before rubbing a few circles on it. He's clearly aware of the invisible tension you and Kate have, so he's trying to help you remain calm and composed. That's another thing you appreciate about him, he knows how to read the room—more specifically, read you. Honestly, sometimes he even knows you more than you know yourself. Besides, he's your best friend anyway, so it'd be a shame if he wouldn't have noticed.
"Hello! Welcome to Lumière Convention Center", he bowed. "I'm Park Bogum, the son of Chairman Park Woo Hyun. I am currently the head of the clothing line and also the project director of this partnership. I will be supervising and overseeing the whole process", he said so professionally before shaking each member's hands.
It surprised you a bit cause you don't usually see your best friend like that. Most times, he's just like some crazy hormonal teenage boy. However, this was a breath of fresh air to see him act so mature.
"I'm not sure if Ms. Song already introduced herself properly, but she's the project manager", he continued. "She will be coordinating with you directly. Kate is assigned to overlook if the process is being done correctly and properly. She'll also make sure that everything goes smoothly."
Kate interjected. "We'd get to see each other more often, isn't that exciting?!"
God, no!
The members weren't rude. So they expressed their enthusiasm—faked it, at least. She didn't quite get that since she happily clapped out of excitement.
How embarrassing.
"Anyway, I am really honored to have you as our brand's ambassadors. Thank you for signing up with us", your best friend said sincerely. "I hope you have a great time here. If you need anything, here's my calling card", Bogum said as he handed it to Namjoon.
"Or you could just tell princess—", you elbowed his ribs, cutting him mid-sentence. He chuckled upon realizing his mistake, "Oh sorry, force of habit."
"As I was saying... You could also voice your concerns through Y/N, and she'll just relay it to me", he continued before his phone rang. "Sorry to cut this short but I need to take this call, so I'll have to excuse myself now. It's really nice meeting you guys. Have fun today!"
Bogum faced you. "Meet me later?", he asked, to which you responded with a nod. He bid everyone farewell before exiting the room.
Before Kate could start talking again, you intervened. Rude but whatever.
"You guys need to get ready ", you said and you could practically see how relieved the members were when you were the one who talked instead of her. "You'll be up soon", and as if on cue, a few makeup noonas and wardrobe stylists arrived to do some finishing touches.
The event soon began. Loud cheers and roars filled the entire hall once the members made their entrance. You blended with the crowd, occupying a seat near the stage, so you'd just be within reach if the boys needed assistance—not that it was really necessary since there were helpers already assigned to assist each member for today.
Where you were at felt like old times; you being just part of the sea of ARMYs, chanting fanchants or whatnot. It felt nice to see the guys from this angle once again. You remember going to various events, always struggling to grab tickets since a lot of people are dying to see them live. But now... you see them right before they sleep and the moment they wake up—no struggles at all. What an amazing opportunity. It still felt like a dream, and if you were indeed dreaming, you'd choose dreamland any day.
Cutting your sappiness, Bogum, soon, joined you there as well. While the members were playing something the MC was letting them do, you took this opportunity to ask everything you had in mind.
He, then, filled you in, erasing your confusions from earlier. You finally got to know why Kate's real name sounded familiar. Turns out, she's the one Bogum is seeing—the one who received the limited edition bag you and your best friend shopped for. After taking her out on lavish dates and after giving her expensive designer pieces, Kate finally convinced her dad to partner with the Parks—finally supplying imported textile materials for the Park's clothing line.
The Parks are bigger and more powerful than them; they could have any textile company they want—actually, they have a lot lined up. But at the end of the day, it all boils down to connection. The Songs have international connections that the others don't have. Aside from that, they also exclusively agreed to only sell to the Parks so that's their edge among the others-- the sole reason why they want them.
But of course, there's a catch -- it's business after all.
Before signing the contract, Kate's father intently demanded that his daughter be involved in whatever collaboration they had with BTS—he said it's the only way he'd continue supplying them with unique quality textiles. The deal is great, one that would benefit both sides greatly, so they just agreed with whatever request he had. So, aside from asking Bogum to take her out on dates and to befriend her, Chairman Park also appointed her as the project manager to further strengthen their blossoming partnership, appeasing her father.
Speaking of Kate, where is she? You looked around to spot the project manager, but she was nowhere in sight.
"Hands-on my ass", you mumbled, remembering how not even an hour ago, she was bragging about being present the entire event, but you guess she was just all talk.
Honestly, you didn't really care about her whereabouts. She could be having a one-on-one meeting with satan for all you care.
Scanning the area some more, something caught your eye. Your attention was brought back to the main event in front of you.
You noticed that the members were already seated side by side behind a long table, signaling that the signing portion was about to start any minute now.
The ever-energetic Hoseok was situated at the far right end of the table, and sitting next to him was Jimin who was entertaining the ARMYs. Yoongi, who was preoccupied with his beloved iced coffee, was sandwiched between Namjoon, who was glancing at the stage entrance, and Jin who was currently being attacked by his seatmate. As usual, Jungkook was busy annoying his hyung by playfully punching his arm. Everything was already so chaotic, yet the actual fan signing is still yet to begin.
"Hold up!", you uttered while raising your pointer finger, immediately catching Bogum's attention who was in the middle of sharing his newest sexcapades.
Doing a headcount, you noticed that someone's missing. One seat at the far left corner of the table was not occupied... a seat that should've been occupied by the one and only, Kim Taehyung. Taehyung should've been there, probably scheming something with Jungkook to annoy their eldest hyung. However, he wasn't there—the seat was surprisingly vacant.
You glanced all over the stage in search of the man, but you were only disappointed. Taehyung was nowhere in sight and it's weird. Any of the members don't usually go MIA during important events like this.
I'm probably just overreacting, you convinced yourself. However, at the back of your mind, there was something that's bothering you.
Because what are the odds? Just when you've noticed the absence of Kate... coincidentally, Taehyung was not on stage as well.
