I walked as fast as I could down the hallway of the children's hospital. I was still in some pain but I didn't care. I had to find my baby. Michael and Crystal had brought me then they went to the airport to fly home for Christmas.
I approached the room and went in, causing Calum to shoot up from where he was laying on the bed with Landyn, who was asleep.
"Oh my god, Maddie" Calum jumped and hugged me, kissing my lips, "Dear god are you okay?"
"I'm fine. How is he?" I moved past him to my little boy,
"He's been sleeping a lot. He was awake when they brought him back from surgery yesterday. Then they gave him some medicine and he's been asleep since" he explained. I nodded and looked over my son,
"He picked red?" I questioned, looking at Landyn's casted leg,
"Yeah because it's Christmas theme" Calum chuckled,
"How was he when he was awake?" I sat down on the bed, careful not to hurt Landyn,
"He was a little out of it" Calum shrugged, "But, he saw me and said something"
"What was it?" I furrowed my eyebrows,
"He called me daddy," Calum said then busted out crying. The next thing I knew I was crying and Calum was hugging me,
"It doesn't bother me Maddie, but it has to be okay with you"
"It's totally okay"

Calum and I sat on the small couch. Calum was very carefully holding me since my whole body was bruised up. Landyn was still sleeping but that was because of all the medicine in his system.
Calum's phone started to buzz, making me get off of him so he could answer,
"Just my mom asking how things are" he smiled. I felt horrible,
"Cal, go home and see them. You didn't get to pick them up did you?"
"No, but it's okay. They understood. They rented a car" he assured. I nodded and closed my eyes since my head was pounding. Calum rotated again and kissed my head,
"Go to sleep Mads. I'll wake you as soon as Landyn wakes up"
That's all he needed to say for me to fall asleep.

"M-m-mommy" I heard and I sat up, groaning as soon as I did. My eyes shot to Landyn as Calum walked in the room with a bag that he sat down,
"Hey buddy" I walked over and kissed my little boy's head, "How are you feeling?"
"G-g-go h-home" he pouted, "D-d-daddy?"
"Hey buddy. Want to get the doctor to come and see if you can go home?" Calum asked. Landyn nodded and Calum pressed the button,
"I called my mom and told her where his clothes were at my house so she brought some"
I nodded and sat with Landyn. He wasn't crying, he was just looking around.
The doctor came in and looked Landyn over. Then she gave us a rundown on cast instruction and how to clean his hair and keep the staples dry. Then I had to ask about his stutter. He's never had one before,
"It's just because he hit his head pretty hard. It will go away. Just give it time" she assured. I nodded and Calum got him dressed while I signed discharge papers.

We got back to the apartment and Landyn and I took up residence on the couch. Calum moved around grabbing us both water and a blanket, even getting Landyn's baby blanket and giraffe. He then wet a rag and grabbed the soap and started cleaning the blood out of Landyn's hair.
"My parents and sister are bringing dinner. They also want to meet you. They said they won't stay long" Calum spoke,
"Calum, you should be with them and not here anyway" I sighed,
"Don't. I'm staying right here" he spoke pretty stern, "You need anything bud?" he asked Landyn,
"My t-trucks so we can p-play" he looked up at Calum. Calum nodded and headed off to Landyn's room, returning with the cloth cube bin of trucks and cars,
"I'll be right back. My family pulled in and they have Duke" Calum kissed my lips and headed out the door,
"Yay! D-D-Duke" Landyn grinned, grabbing a truck from the bin Calum had put next to him.
I was anxious now. We were about to meet his family. Calum speaks so highly of them and I hope Landyn and I make a good impression.
The door opened and Calum walked in, three people following behind him. He sat Duke down and Duke darted to the couch, hopping up and jumping all over Landyn,
"Duke" Calum called, walking over, "Careful"
"H-He's okay" Landyn giggled and hugged the dog.
I stood and Calum grabbed the food bags from his parents and sat them down then took my hand,
"Maddie, these are my parents Joy and David, and my sister Mali"
"It's so good to meet you!" Joy very carefully hugged me,
"You as well" I smiled. David hugged me next then Mali,
"Are you okay? When Calum called us yesterday and told us we were so worried" Mali panicked,
"I'm fine. A little sore but expected. Unfortunately, Landyn took the brunt of it" I nodded towards my kid,
"Oh yes Landyn. Please introduce us to the handsome thing" Joy smiled. Landyn got all shy.
I sat back down and pulled Landyn onto my lap so Joy could sit next to us. Calum sat across from us on the coffee table. Mali stood behind him and David sat in the chair,
"Hi sweet boy. I'm Calum's mom and that's his dad and sister" Joy smiled making Landyn giggle,
"G-G-Grandma and G-Grandpa and Aunt M-Mali" he nodded,
"Landyn" I scolded but got cut off by David,
"Oh no. That's totally fine"
"Okay well, I'm starving" Calum stood, "Lanny I think they brought you Chick-Fil-A" he sang.
"Yay!" Landyn bounced on my lap, "D-Daddy c-carry me"
As soon as he said that Joy, David, and Mali looked wide-eyed and Calum gladly picked him up,
"I know. It started yesterday apparently" I laughed, "Calum's amazing with Landyn. Michael was the closest thing Landyn had to a good dad figure. Then Calum came along and Landyn adores him"
"It's so weird to see my baby brother like this" Mali laughed as we all stood and followed the boys.

After we ate, Calum, Joy, Mali, and I sat at the table while David played trucks with Landyn on the couch,
"I've never seen Dad like this" Mali laughed,
"He never played with me" Calum joked.
I smiled and took Calum's hand,
"You really have a special little boy over there" Joy complimented,
"Thank you" I nodded, "I'm glad he's now got people in his life that are so good to him. He's always deserved this, not what he had originally"
"Don't hesitate to call or ask us for anything. You're part of our family now"
"Thank you Joy"
"Alright, I need to go get some time with my grandbaby" Joy got up with Mali and they headed over to the couch to play with Landyn and David. Landyn was loving the attention even if he could only sit in one spot.
"I told you it would be fine" Calum kissed my head,
"I know" I rested my head on his shoulder, "I love you"
"I love you too"

After Calum's family left, we got Landyn in bed then climbed in my bed, turning on the baby monitor in case Landyn woke up. I was glad I kept it now.
I rested my head on Calum's chest and pulled the blankets up,
"You know you could've gone home with your family" I spoke as I traced shapes on his stomach,
"I couldn't leave if I wanted to. I'd be a nervous wreck" he said, "Plus, you can't pick him up still. He can't walk. What are you going to do when he needs up?"
"I guess you're right" I sighed,
"Look, my family understands. It's okay" he promised. I nodded,
"Try and sleep. I know you didn't sleep last night because you were worrying about Landyn"
"You need to sleep too. You haven't slept either" I sighed,
"I know Mads" He kissed my forehead, "Goodnight. Love you"
"Goodnight Calum. I love you too"
