Chapter 9

I lay in Harry's arms, overwhelmed with some feeling of security, despite him being the one to lock me up. I wasn't sure how to respond to his words, so I said nothing and only held onto him, burrowing my face in his chest. I chose to speak and nodded. "Okay. I promise." The promise was careless since if I were to be presented with the chance to get away, I'd probably take advantage of it, but in the moment we both seemed too vulnerable; there wasn't any other way to respond.

There was silence from that point and then he lifted me up, carrying me up out of that dark dungeon and up to his room where I was laid in his bed. Strangely, it's become a place of comfort and when he began to leave me alone I said, "Wait."

He stopped and dropped his hand from reaching for the door. "Yes?"

I looked down and clenched my jaw lightly. "Uh. Can you, can you stay?"

His expression smoothed out and he was silent as he took off his shoes and walked around the bed, getting inside. I pressed myself against him, glad for the contact and he said, "I really am sorry."

After a moment with my thoughts becoming hazy and words slurred and quiet, I accepted his apology. "I forgive you, Harry."

-

I've been here for nearly a week and even after my promise to never leave Harry, he was smart enough not to let me out the house again. This was why I'd had to shop for my new room's furniture and decorations online. And after multiple complaints and arguments about how I now have nothing to do (since school is out for me), I was one day approached by Louis and Zayn.

I had been sitting down in a room a bit farther into the chateau, as I'd been told it's called, sitting down on a step into a fancy room with fancy furnishing and a fancy piano when the pair had taken it upon themselves to sit so I was crammed between them.

"Hello, Laney," Louis greeted in his soft and raspy tone. I glanced at Zayn but he only smiled in greeting.

"Uh, hi," I responded.

"Since I myself am quite the nosy lad I couldn't help but hear the lovers' quarrels between you and Harry," he began, putting his arm around me.

My eyes widened and my face flushed with color as I said, "We're, we're not lovers?"

"Well if you share a bed and aren't related might as well say so," he quipped much to my shock. My head turned to Zayn who only made an expression of agreement and in horror I hid my face in my hands. Did everyone know we slept together?

"Back to what I was saying, if you really are as bored as you consistently drone about, I believe if you want you can get in on what we do as a job," he continued.

At the mention of this "job" they do in which Harry tried to keep hush hush with me, I straightened out a bit. "Really?"

He smirked. "Adorably ambitious," he said, looking over me at Zayn who once again spoke without words, using his own smirk and slight nod to agree.

"Wait, what exactly is your job?" I asked curiously.

Louis' eyes narrowed slightly, but surprisingly Zayn was the one to speak. "Almost like agents, wouldn't you say so, Lou?"

Louis seemed incredibly thankful for Zayn's simile as he smiled and said, "Thank you, Zayn, yes I would say so." I tried to take that into consideration but he continued talking. "To summarize: our next assignment is... getting a hold of a chip from a certain lad..." He criticized me as he added, "That has a son who is quite fond of the ladies."

My expression changed as I thought of that. "O-Oh. Oh, really?" I squeaked.

"Really," Louis confirmed.

Zayn took hold of speaking again. He set a comforting hand on my knee, grasping my attention and his brown eyes were consoling. "You'll only need to chat him up a bit and keep him distracted for some time. We'll do the rest, love, I promise."

I looked down in consideration and Louis added, "Plus, not to make this awkward or anything, but you'll probably have to dress a bit older to say the least, show a little skin."

Zayn gave Louis a warning expression but Louis only shrugged innocently. I felt shy at the thought, but also excited. Agent, Zayn had said. Sounds cool...

"I'm in," I agreed surely.

Louis smiled and then looked at Zayn. "Okay, then. Welcome to the team, Laney," he said as he and Zayn stood up.

While they were leaving I couldn't help but hear some things.

"I don't think Harry will be happy about you involving her in this."

"And I don't think Harry will be happy about you touching his lover like that."

After that there was an "ow" and while their footsteps faded I shook my head and laughed. Lovers.

-

When Harry found out about me joining the mission he certainly wasn't that happy. In fact, he hadn't found out about me joining the "mission" till the night of it.

The girls had been dressing me so I was "older looking" and yes, I was showing more skin than usual. I was also wearing more makeup than ever.

My dress was a turquoise color that the girls claimed to bring out the mixture of blue and green in my eyes. It had only one strap on it that crossed my left shoulder and it was pretty tight on my figure, enhancing curves I'd never cared to notice the existence of and the dress was just about my mid-thigh.

I didn't want makeup, but they insisted. It was terrifying for me, especially when they curled my eyelashes (still can't believe this is a thing) and applied mascara to them. They were about to apply some eyeliner to my eyes when there was a knock on the door.

"Lanaura!"

My eyebrows raised at my name being called by Harry on the other side in such a rough voice. I looked to Danielle, and Eleanor went to the door, opening it.

"Yes, Harold?"

"I'm here to speak with the young lady," he responded gruffly.

I was confused about why he sounded so exasperated, but the girls continued to try and work on my face. I cringed from the eyeliner again when Harry stepped inside. I think I heard Eleanor giggle, "Do try to contain yourself," as she came back over to where I was crowded in front of the mirror.

I glanced at his reflection and his expression was one of irritation, but I saw the smallest signs of shock in his expression; the slightest raise in his eyebrows, the parting of his lips and his hands actually clenched at his sides. I turned around when Eleanor said, "He wants to speak with you."

My hair was pampered by the girls' hands and I noticed how Harry's eyes looked up and down my figure, not losing that same expression.

"Did I forget to mention the word alone?" he inquired with an all-business tone. He was so authoritative that the girls froze and then quickly dispersed, me wishing to follow.

The door was shut leaving just the two of us in the bathroom under its fluorescent lighting. He placed his hands over his chest as once again his eyes criticized me and I fidgeted. I felt naked for some reason. I heard giggling on the other side of the door. He cleared his throat.

"Why are you suddenly taking part in our line of business?" he demanded in a straight tone, his eyes narrowed at me with his fist in front of his chin.

I awkwardly scratched my scalp and frowned. Before I spoke I had to swallow the lump in my throat that developed as a reaction to his aura. "Uh, I don't know? Louis and Zayn came to talk to me about it a few days ago?"

Harry closed his eyes but then when they opened he rolled them. "Fucking Louis," he murmured ever so quietly and I remembered how he didn't like me swearing, but I didn't try to call him a hypocrite. "And Zayn," he added. He asked, "I'm guessing Zayn didn't speak very much?"

I nodded and he shook his head. "Louis," he repeated.

He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair while I stood there trying to figure out why he was acting strangely. "Is that all you had to say?" I prompted, deciding I might as well have myself finished in here if all he had left to do was act out frustration and swear.

He shook his head. "No. Not at all. Actually..." He trailed off and bit his lip, looking at me once again. I stood in discomfort. His eyes were so probing. "First of all I don't like that you're involved in this at all. Especially if you're going to be dressed like..." He motioned to me with a baffled expression. "This."

I couldn't help but ask, "Why?" I smiled in embarrassment. "You don't like it?" I regretted the question almost as soon as I asked it. I blushed and looked down.

After a moment he answered hesitantly, "I think it'd be more appropriate if you were as old as you looked." I bit down on my lip and he continued. "Besides, I'm not sure if you're aware of the severity of this all..." I looked at him again and saw his fingers once more in his hair. "I'm not sure if Louis told you, but Alex has... quite the deal with girls."

I raised my eyebrows. "Um, I believe he said he was a ladies man," I nodded in memory. "I'm not gonna lie, I'm not one hundred percent sure about what the hell that means." My eyes widened, not sure if "hell" was okay, but he didn't seem to notice my slip up as he just shook his head.

"He has a way with girls. He likes to get what he wants. He's a bit of a spoiled brat, to be frank and also a douchebag that most girls see as a walking check book. He . . ." Another pregnant pause. "Alex doesn't usually go for girls like you; he's more into Sophia and Perrie. But I'm sure that if you do attract him then it wouldn't be good."

I scowled insecurely. I questioned, "What do you mean 'girls like me?'"

His expression softened as he said, "You know. You're not really slutty."

There was a sharp, "HEY!" from the other side of the door making both our heads turn. A chorus of laughter followed.

"Hush up! You blew our cover you, ninny!" Eleanor, I think, said.

We heard squeals and giggles and it sounded like they ran away from the room so I sighed. "Is there anything else you want to tell or...?" I asked, trailing off.

His alight green eyes cleared up for a second and I maybe, just maybe, for once almost had a chance at reading them. But they quickly flitted, looking side to side almost nervously and I wondered if he had a secret to tell. I stepped forward, hoping that if I were closer and this was a secret, perhaps less distance would calm him.

"Are you okay?" I tested as I got closer to him, being reminded of how tall he really is. I set my hand on his wrist making him freeze. "We're alone now," I reminded him, trying to comfort him.

His face expressed concern. "I must admit that I... I'm scared Alex might try something with you."

I felt some of his discomfort spill into me at the subject as I wasn't dumb; I knew what "something" meant. "Oh." I considered his words briefly but then shrugged them off. "Don't worry about that," I excused. "I haven't even kissed a boy so I don't think that I'll have to make that a problem..." I must've sounded stupid. I couldn't honestly tell the mysterious Alex I hadn't kissed anyone before without raising suspicions about my age or maybe just my motive for being at a party.

He chuckled faintly. "I had a sort of feeling about that."

I blushed. "Is it really that obvious?"

His lips lifted at the corners gently and he shrugged. "It's not a bad thing. It's actually sweet," he admitted. "Cute."

"Minus the fact I might have to sacrifice it to some spoiled meathead," I joked, hoping to lighten the mood.

He laughed and I joined, glad to have succeeded but as his laughing dried up and he became serious I had to also. It was some time before he spoke hesitantly. "Laney?" His voice was suddenly much more gentle then it'd been before.

"Yeah?" I answered with an equally soft tone. His eyes were entrancing and they made my heart jump around strangely in my chest.

"If you had to choose between sacrificing your first kiss to a meathead and giving it to... me," he proposed making my skin heat all over. "What would you choose?"

I stared up at him blankly for a moment, my mouth open barely as I tried to find an answer to his question. But as his hand I was holding held onto mine and his jade eyes bore into mine I knew the answer to the question right then.

"I would choose you, Harry," I decided, meeting his eyes steadily.

-

SO UM THIS WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO END THIS CHAPTER BUT IM NOT EVIL SO NEVER MIND LOL HERES THE KISS.

-

His green eyes looked from my lips into my own and then I felt his fingers push hair behind my ear. My eyes closed as his hand caressed my jawline before I could feel his face coming closer to mine. My heart was pulsating rapidly within my ribcage while my first kiss approached me and began when his lips pressed to mine.

My heart slowed to a steady flutter and I pressed my hand to his chest a brief moment. His lips were slightly chapped, but still smooth in their own sense. But they were also warm and inviting as I indulged the luxury of Harry. His hand that was placed on the small of my back tightened for a moment, but soon our kiss was broken; the spell still remained for my part; I was probably starry eyed.

We both were dumbly looking at one another but I eventually shut my eyes and then cleared my throat. "Uh, a-anything else?"

His reality hit him, too, as he blinked and coughed a bit. "Not..." He rubbed the nape of his neck. "Not really," he muttered. He began to walk away as all I could think of was how I'd just had my first kiss. "Laney?"

I removed my delirious smile from my face, turning to face him. "Yeah?" He only looked at me in concern before he looked down and then warned me.

"Just be careful."
