I was now sitting around a bonfire with some other gladers who where all talking, Aris was with some of the girls in his maze. I was happy he finally gets to live with his family again or at least the closest thing he's had to a family. "Hey are you okay?" Newt asked taking a seat next to me, "i'll be okay" i said turning and giving him a sad smile. "What'd she tell you?" he asked cautiously, "i did have a mother, and a family. I had a father a brother, i had it all Newt and WICKED took that away" i finally let out a strangled sob as Newt wrapped him arm around me bringing me closer to him. "I'm sorry" i whispered my voice breaking, "no no don't apologize it's okay" he whispered trying to comfort me. "I'm sorry i've never cried in front of anyone i feel stupid" i said wiping the tears away from my cheeks. "It's okay, we all go through hard moments" he said rubbing my arm his his thumb. "You don't, your the most composed person i've met" i said with a small chuckle.
"There was a time where i wasn't like this, when i first arrived in the glade i always felt like something was missing" he paused looking down at me. "I fell into this depression, so one day i woke up early and snuck into the maze. I found the tallest wall and climbed it, then i jumped though with my luck i got my foot tangled in the vine and snapped it in three places. Now i'm stuck with a permanent limp" he finished looking down at me. "I'm sorry" i whispered looking up at him, i hadn't realized we were so closed our noses were almost touching. "Newt" i whispered, he leaned in closer...and closer...until our lips were touching. It was a soft slow kiss not like the last one we had, we slowly pulled away.
"Newt, look i- god i can't even say it. Newt i've had feelings for you since forever and i didn't know what they were i though i was sick or something" i paused with a small laugh. "You made me feel something i've never felt for anyone" i finished looking up at him. He was shocked "Violet.." he was cut off by the booming sound of a helicopter. We both turned around seeing a large berg heading our way "shit" i breathed turning back to Newt. "We have to go" i said getting up and running towards the tent with my mom in it. "Mom!" i called she wasn't in there, i turned running out. There were a group of boys standing by a large table of weapons, they were all loading up. I walked over to them "what the hell is happening?" i asked as all the boys began to get guns and magazines. "Theresa, it's Theresa she called them" Thomas said as he came running standing next to me. "What the hell" i muttered, "do you need a gun?" Vince asked from in front of me. I looked up at him bringing my hand up as it glowed red with a sparkle. "Right" he said nodding before going back to loading guns and handing them out.
Just then a loud booming sound was heard, there were helicopters dropping bombs on the camp. A loud boom came as the ground shook, a bomb had landed right in front of us as the beeping count down started. I quickly turned to the group "go! now!" i yelled before casting a shield around the bomb. It went off with a boom making me fly backwards and on my back. I started coughing, i wiped the ash off my face as i tried to get gulps of air. I quickly got up running back trying to find the group, more helicopters sounded in the distance. Aris. I need to find Aris, i ran trying to look for anyone familiar. Just then i saw Jorge and Thomas running, i ran to them as quickly as possible.
"Where the hell is our group?" i yelled over the loud noises. More people emerged from the camp shooting at the helicopters. Just when things couldn't get worse WICKED soldiers jumped down and started shooting people. I blocked as much shots as possible but i was getting tired. I hid behind a big boulder as the screams began to ring through the the camp. I spotted Newt, Minho, and Frypan helping out Vince and Harriet, i looked around before bolting towards them quickly hiding behind Minho. "Hey guys missed me" i called as i deflected bullets heading our way. They were shooting guys left and right but there were to much soldiers, i heard a beeping sound as a grenade was thrown into the back of the truck. I felt fire course through my body as i fell on my back spasing out. All i could feel where my muscles burning, i was to tired to try and do anything or even protect myself.
I saw the soldiers approached as two took me making me stand up, they dragged me closer to the berg making me go down on my knees next to Newt and Minho. I was tired i couldn't fight anymore and even if i did it could possibly kill me. I felt Newt slip his hand into mine, and in some way it brought me comfort in this sick time. "A5" the soldier called scanning Newt before moving on to me "X1" "ah our most prized possession" Janson called "A4" and he continued down our line. Janson looked around noticing Thomas wasn't here "where's Thomas?" he asked looking around.
"Right here" he said slowly walking over, he stopped as a guard ran up behind him to check him before pushing him forward to walk. "Thomas" Janson greeted before punching him in the gut. "Get him in line" Janson ordered as they brought Thomas next to Minho making him kneel. "Why didn't you run" Minho asked clearly annoyed, "i'm tired of running" he said. "That's all of them, load them up!" Janson ordered as he went to pick me up. "Take me please, they don't deserve this" i said, "i'll just take all of you" he said pulling me. "Don't forget i massacred your whole team in seconds" i spat, just as a guard made Thomas stand up he punched him in the stomach before taking out Jorge's bomb from before. "Hold your fire" Janson calls "stand back" Thomas warns. "Let them go" Thomas says, "Thomas put it down" Janson says calmly. "Let them all go!" Thomas yells, "you know i can't do that" Ava says stepping forwards. "Thomas please stop they promised they wouldn't hurt them it was part of the deal" Theresa said. "And i'm supposed to trust you all of a sudden" he said angrily, he was obviously hurt by Theresa's betrayal. "She's right Thomas it was the only condition" Janson said getting annoyed. "We're not going back" Thomas muttered, "Thomas no" Ava said getting worried he'd do it.
"Thomas do you really want to kill all your friends?" Janson asked trying to change his mind. Thomas hesitated looking around at all of us before locking eyes at me. I sighed getting up ignoring the stares, "i'm with you Thomas" i said softly putting a hand on his soldier. I turned to Newt nodding at him as he got up followed by Minho, and Frypan. "We're with you Tommy" Newt said standing behind him next to me, he turned to me and i smiled using my other hand to wrap it in his own. "Together" i whispered, "like we started it" i said rubbing the back of his hand with my thumb trying to comfort him. "Do it Thomas we're ready" Minho said putting his hand on Thomas' other shoulder. I closed my eyes waiting for the moment the bomb would go off and all this would be over, but it never came. Instead there was a loud roaring of an engine and Jorge's screams along with gun fire. I turned frantically looking for the car, i spotted Jorge just as he jumped over a mountain of sand catching air as he roughly landed back on the floor. I locked eyes with New "run!" i yelled as we turned beginning to run. I suddenly felt this large immense pain in my skull i dropped on my knees creaming in agony. I looked up to see a blurred image of Newt, i turned behind me to see a WICKED soldier coming at me. I turned back "run!" i yelled as loud as possible, though it was barely audible he heard me and began to run the other way.
I felt like a million needles picking at my skull and they wouldn't stop, lucky for me i'm good at playing dead. I layed there motionless holding my breath as the guard approached picking me up roughly by my arms. When i saw another guard approaching i let out a grunt opening the palms of my hands sending a large energy wave as big as possible, loosing the support of the guards i fell to my knees as i felt out a cry. When i finally stopped i was tired and dizzy, i felt someone come and help me to my feet. I didn't know who it was and i was to tired to fight back as i was led to the back of a truck. I was situated sitting up on the tailgate of a truck, when my vision cleared i was Newt. I turned away from him looking at the berg seeing as they roughly dragged Sonya and Aris away. "NO!" i yelled trying to get up, i was aware the tears that where pooling in my eyes clouding my vision but i had to get Aris. I couldn't let them take him "Violet please no your hurt" Newt said softly trying to get me to sit, i kept thrashing "Aris" i kept repeating over and over again before letting out a muffled cry.
"I failed him" i said letting out a loud sob, i hadn't even registered i was crying in front of everyone but that was the least of my worries. "They took him Newt they took him" i whispered as Newt pulled me into a hug. "I know, i know. They took Minho too" he whispered stroking my hair. And suddenly it was as if a dam was broken as the tears came rushing out. Everything i've been holding in was now coming out in choked sobs and onto Newts shirt. I didn't remember anything's else, it's as if my body had given up along with me and shut down. I slumped against Newt letting out short breaths, weirdly i could still feel and hear everything just for a couple seconds.
"Violet?" Newt asks pulling away, he didn't do or say anything before slowly wiping something from under my nose near my top lip. I felt the blood smear as he wiped it away, i felt him hold a finger under my nose as i let out a small breath. I felt his shoulders slump after letting out a sigh of relief, he picked me up before walking, or more like limping somewhere. How come i've never noticed he walks funny, i didn't notice till i was feeling it. That was the last thing i heard or felt before completely slipping into unconsciousness and blacking out.
I know i haven't posted for a while but i do hope this was worth the wait, i decided i'm putting both tst and tdc together into one book. I made this chapter a bit long so i hoped you liked it, comment if you see anything wrong like using a word one to many times or just things like that. Constructive criticism is good, hate not so much.
