EVER SINCE MAIA could remember, she stood by her grandfather's side, watching as he taught her the ways of her family's undercover business, selling items illegally in exchange for rations to other important items it took to live on the beloved ark. And when he grandfather died unexpectedly due to a heart attack, Maia was extremely grateful for all the times her grandfather taught her because she took his place in the family's business not long after, just at the age of fifteen.
When Maia met the young girl who was soon-to-be the next zero-g mechanic, it was always at her family's business, the girl with her hair pulled back always seemed to be searching for parts for a new project she, at the time, was working on or she was looking for painkillers to ease her mothers dreadful hangovers. Maia only grew fond of the girls intelligence as well as her fiery personality.
But Maia's life turned around for the worse when a customer who was a cadet in disguise, turned her in, the guards locking her away and her family's hopes and dreams vacuumed into space, just as she would be on her 18th birthday. Or at least that's what was supposed to happen to her. But the ark had different plans for Maia and 99 other delinquents that had been locked away due to their terrible crimes. The ark planned to send Maia and 99 other prisoners down to earth.
Maia, being the person she was, thought it was stupid that the council had decided this, why not just let them rot in a cell? But little did Maia know, testing whether earth was survivable or not was the least of her worries. One big one was trying to bury her love for a girl from the past. A girl who was unconditionally in love with a boy who went by the name of Finn Collins.
