I wake up to the sound of knocking. I rub my eyes and push myself up from the floor.
I wince as pain shoots up from my stomach.
Oh, did I forget to tell you that my so called step father kicked me repeatedly in the stomach two days ago? I think my ribs are bruised or broken. I haven't told anyone because first of all it's not like Mary (aka my mom) or joe (aka my step father) would care anyways.
I've considered telling my school counselor but my trust is limited now. I'm broken and I think I'm beyond repair. So I kept my mouth shut, scared something would happen and Mary or joe would come after me.
As I stand the pain gets worse but I'll have to deal with it for now.
I open my door and walk down the stairs looking around to see where joe and Mary are.
They aren't around, that's weird.
But before I could turn around I hear loud knocking on the front door.
I slowly and cautiously walk to the door and ask "Who is it?" In a low voice, it coming out hoarse.
"It's the police, open up." A hear a mans voice demand on the other side of the door.
Why would the police be here so early?
I quickly look towards the clock.
4 am
Oh-
FOUR AM? Now I'm really worried.
I open the door slowly peeking my head from behind and spot two big men with police uniforms on. They spot me and slightly smile.
"Hello there. My name is Officer Rogers. What's your name?"
I stare at him then to the one behind him.
Then Back to him.
I start getting a little nervous and my hands start shaking. Why would there be police at my door this early in the morning? Where is joe and Mary? What is happening?
"My names Kim." I quavered, cautiously watching them and their every move.
"Hi Kim. I need you to do something for me. If you do, I promise I will tell you everything you need to know. "
I looked at him unsure of whether I should trust him or not. I'm not one to trust but he's a policeman, and for that I'll give him a small chance.
"Okay..." I reply.
"Great. I need you to pack a bag like if you're moving to a new home. Take everything and anything you want or need. We'll wait outside For you when your ready." He smiled and I just nodded in silence.
I walked upstairs and into my room to grab a bag. Then I started grabbing anything I could find. I didn't have much as they never gave me anything. I only have a couple of clothes, a picture from when I was a baby with Mary, painkillers, and a teddy bear named snuggles. I got him when I was younger from my father.
Mary told me my father left us when I was 2 years old because I was a disgrace and a poor excuse of a child and honestly, I don't know what to believe anymore.
I then put on my warn out slippers, tied my hair in a ponytail and walked downstairs. The pain from my cheek and my stomach were hurting really bad but I can't show it in front of them. I take out the pill bottle and pop two pills in my mouth.
This should hold it off for a while.
I put it back in my bag and walk outside where spot officer roger and his sidekick standing in front of their police car.
"Ah there you are. Are you ready to take a trip?"
I hesitate before I nod slightly and hop into the back of the car. Police only come when somethings wrong.
If only I knew how right my suspicions were.
