I wake up on a nice spring day. The branches are rustling outside from a soft breeze. My mother, Moonrise, comes out of her bed, waving her tail at me in acknowledgment. I walk up to her.
Looking outside I ask, " The weather's nice. Can I take Dawn out for some hunting?"
She looks uneasy, but then nods. "Sure. Just make sure she doesn't get hurt."
I say a quick thanks and go to where Dawn is sleeping. " Hello, sleepy. Want to go hunting?"
She instantly bolts upright. "Yay! Hunting!"
She enthusiastically jumps out of her bed, following me outside. I go to the lake, where the trees are sturdy. I turn to Dawn. "Want to climb up?"
She looks at me, gaping. Then all the excitement seems to be released all at once. "Climb!? I can climb here? FINALLY!!!"
She's a ticking time bomb filled with nothing but pure joy. "Woah, calm down, my little explosion."
She obediently sits down, tail curled around her paws. I go to the best tree in the area. "You see this," I say, "This is what you're climbing."
Dawn walks over, staring up at the tree. She goes to the trunk, digs her claws in it, and slowly starts climbing. I follow behind her, just in case. In about 2 minutes, we are as high up as we can be. Dawn stares out at the city. "You can see everything from up here! Oh, there's Cinnamon's house, and over there is where Blue lives!"
I look out, seeing the sky start to darken, and hustle Dawn down the tree. Once she gets down, I leap to the ground beside her. I glance at her, "Want to race to the house?"
She instantly bolts off in the direction of the house. I climb up a tree, jumping from tree to tree to our house. I don't see Dawn there, so I jump down and start licking my paw. When she arrives, she stares at me amazed. "How did you get here so fast? Did you cheat?"
I go to her and tap her on the shoulder with my tail. "It's a secret."
I smile and walk inside, tired from all that running. I eat some pellets and curl up in my bed. I see Midnight come inside and wave my tail at him. He nodded at me, going straight to the food bowl. I get up, go to the litter box, and come back. I fall asleep almost instantly, my dreams filled with trees. When I wake up, I see the Twolegs leaving, I quickly get up, rub their legs, get pet a bit, and go to eat. Once I eat, I go outside. I go straight to Sky's house. When I get there, she is in the garden washing her tail. I jump down from the fence to where she is sitting.
"Hello," I greeted her. She stops her washing and smiles at me. "What brings you to the land of no rules?" I laugh and go into her tree. "So that's what you're calling this place now? It's more like the land with no clean."
I hold up a paw with a dried leaf on it in mock disgust. She just laughs and guides me toward the pet door. "Come on, my Twolegs bought some of that nice stuff."
I go to her food bowl and sniff it. It smells like chicken. Amazing. I hold up my head and wrinkle my nose. "You call this good,"
I say in a heavy British accent. She just whacks my nose with her tail. I instantly launch at her, and next thing we're on the floor wrestling. She breaks away, and we lie there on the floor, laughing. I tell her, " You know, Dawn climbed a tree yesterday."
She replies, "Wow, how high?"
I look at her. "As high as she could go."
I hear some noise outside so I get up and say goodbye, walking out of the pet door and onto the fence. I hear some angry hisses coming from nearby and investigate. When I reach there, there are two mobs of cats hissing at one another. One of the leaders of a mob isn't familiar, so I leap down. They grow silent as they see me, except for the unfamiliar one. I go up to him. "What is your name?"
He looks suspicious. "Why would you want to know?"
He tries to claw me, but I easily dodge it and nip his tail. He yowls and turns on me. One of the cats comes from his mob, whispers something in his ear, and he looks at me. "You're Midnight's..."
I stare straight at him. "I have a name, but yes, I am. By the way, that name happens to be Tourmaline."
He instantly looks regretful and looks at me. "Sorry. I didn't know."
I ask him again, "What's your name?"
And this time he replies, "My name is Orange."
I look at the surrounding cats. "What is this argument about?"
One of the cats, someone named Violet, comes up and explains, " Lion was getting some scrap from the Big Scrapcans, and then Orange came and took it. He won't give it to Lion, saying that finders keepers."
I look at Orange. "Was Lion already at the can?"
He looks hesitant, " Well...yes."
I take the scrap from his paws, some nice looking chicken meat, and give it to Lion. I turn to Orange. "There are rules here. Follow them."
I turn to Jake, a yellow-brown cat. "Jake, can you state the rules to this outsider?"
He nods, going to Orange and leading him away. I turn to the gathered cats. " All of you may leave now."
The cats disperse, gathering in smaller groups to chat. I go back to my house, where everybody is talking. I go straight to Midnight. "There's a new cat, Orange. He had a little fight over some scrap. Don't worry, I solved it."
Midnight goes with me to the upper floor. He turns to me. " Why did they fight? How did it happen?"
I explain what Violet told me, and he nods. " You did the right thing."
I roll my eyes, "Well, duh. Someone has to be the brains."
I go back outside, this time with a rabbit I found outside. I go to the original place of the argument and find some cats there. I approach a group and go to a cat named Brick. "Hey, Brick, you know where that new one lives?"
He nods, pointing me in the direction of his house. I give him the rabbit as thanks and go off to Orange's home. I see Jake outside and enter the backyard of the house he's in front of. There I find Orange, in his garden. I go back a bit so that he can't see me. I jump down after observing him for a while. He jumps and turns around. Once he knows it's me, he goes on the aggressive. "Why did you come here? To steal more food from me?"
I roll my eyes. " No, I came to make sure you know the rules. Did Jake tell you the rules?"
I see him extending his claws and put a paw on his claws. "Might not wanna try that. I have eyes and ears everywhere. You might get into deep water here."
He slides his claws in, but his eyes are untrusting. " Yeah, Jake told me all about them."
He goes to a tree and pathetically tries to climb it. I go up the bark with ease and turn to him. " Ok, then. I guess I will go now."
I jump off the other side of the fence and go to Leaf and Stem's house. I see Leaf in her house and go in through the pet door. "Hey, where's Stem?"
She turns toward me and replies "Oh, he's just going out for some scrap."
They had a perfectly full food bowl, but the scraps always taste better. I turn toward the door. "Ok, bye Leaf."
I go out and back to my place. I go immediately to Midnight. " Orange lives in that pale blue house, near Leaf and Stem's. And let me tell you, he's quite the one to get mad."
He nods, smiling while going to his bed. I give a mouse that was scurrying in the scraps to Dawn and go to sleep.
(Hope y'all enjoy this! Please tell me your opinion below. And if you don't know some of the terminology, it's from the Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter. Twolegs are humans.)
