Dylan’s POV

I stared at my angel through wolf eyes. She still had her hand covering her eyes, so I whined to get her attention. Her hand moved from her eyes and then she saw me. Her eyes widened and her mouth popped open. I saw her chest heave with a massive breath for a scream that never escaped her perfect lips. We stood there staring at each other for a moment and then Melody’s knees buckled and she passed out.

As fast as I could, I shifted and ran to her. She lay in a heap on the ground. I never expected her to pass out. A feeling of guilt and stupidity washed over me as I scooped her up in my arms and cradled her to my chest. My wolf growled at me for being so stupid. He knew she was fragile, and he knew we shouldn’t have just sprung that on her.

I ran into my house and up the stairs with my werewolf speed, being careful not to jostle my mate. I came to my door and kicked it open. As gently as I could, I lay my precious payload on the bed. Melody’s sleeping face was so beautiful. She looked completely at peace.

“I’m so sorry, baby. I didn’t mean to scare you. Please wake up.” I tenderly stroked her face. I needed to see her beautiful eyes open, and alive. I sighed. She just needed to sleep off her shock.  I covered her small body with a blanket. I bent over and gently placed my lips on her forehead.

As quietly as I could, I got dressed and left the room. I would come and check up on her again in a little bit. I slowly walked down the stairs, reluctant to leave my mate. I found myself headed towards my office. Once getting there, I opened the heavy oak door, and went to sit in my office chair. I looked at the stack of papers on my desk, and sighed. I guess I should get to work.

As I worked, I listened to Melody’s heartbeat. It was still a slow even tempo so I knew she was asleep. Then a sound caught my attention: tires on my driveway. I got up from my chair and briskly walked back out to my front door. Ripping it open, I saw my beta’s car in my driveway. Damn, I forgot Colton was coming over today, I thought to myself.  Colton pulled his car up behind mine and got out.

As he walked towards me, I studied him. He was about my height, but he had brownish blonde hair and darker gold eyes. Colton had been my best friend since we were children. Nobody was surprised when I named him beta. As he walked up to me, he had on his trademark smirk.

“I smell a girl. Am I interrupting something?” he asked.

I smirked right back at him. him and I had gotten with a lot of girls in the past years, but Colton was trying not to find his mate. I most defiantly was looking for her. I wanted to find my mate. I wanted what my parents had, but that didn’t stop me from sleeping around a bit. I had my fair share of experience so to speak. Now all I could think about was being with Melody. I was so excited for her to finally give into me, and let me mate with her. I wanted her so bad.

Snapping back to the present, I remembered Colton’s question.

“Actually, yes. You interrupted me going to check on sleeping mate.” I stated outright. Colton’s jaw dropped and he looked at me with wide eyes.

“You found her?” he asked in astonishment. Obviously, I thought to myself, but decided to be nice while he processed what I had told him.

“Ya. She’s awesome! She’s beautiful. She’s very quiet and shy, but I know that she is there, under that shy exterior. Someone has hurt her, she has bruises all over her, and I want to kill whoever that was. She thinks that she is worthless and ugly, but she is everything to me. I found her earlier today, when I went to pick up my dad’s birthday cake.” I told Colton everything. There were no secrets between him and I. We shared everything. I know it sounds girly, but that’s just how we are.

“Dude, that’s awesome! So do I get to meet her?” he asked.

“Uh…” I said kind of nervously. “Actually, she is sleeping up in my room. I kinda, sorta, shifted in front of her and she passed out from shock. I just needed her to know.”

Colton looked at me with a dah expression on his face. Like what I had done was obviously stupid. It was. My wolf told me. I pushed him to the back of my mind. I didn’t want to talk with him right now.

Suddenly, I heard a crash from upstairs. Melody, I thought frantically. I raced up the stairs, taking them three at a time, with Colton right on my heels. I ripped open the door and burst into the room, frantically looking for Melody. She stood with her back up against the wall, across the room from me. I began to walk towards her, but her beautiful voice stopped me.

“Stay away from me,” she spoke softly, but I could still here her. Her words cut deep. She’s just scared, my wolf told me. The hurt still settled in my heart, but I could understand her. She was terrified.

“Angel, it’s alright. I will never hurt you. Please, please trust me. You are safe with me.” I tried to speak soothingly; I tried to calm her down. I watched her closely. Her breathing was still shallow, but her heart rate slowed slightly. Her pretty green eyes looked around frantically.

“You… you turned into… that… a … wolf.” She stammered out. She was shocked and panicking. I didn’t know what to do. I turned and looked at Colton for help. I begged him with my eyes. Sighing, he stepped around me, and spoke to Melody.

“Hi, you must be Melody. I’m Colton.” He spoke softly, and calmingly. I watched Melody intently. Her breathing slowed and she began to calm down. Colton had a way with humans. He could calm them down. Call it a gift if you will, I just think it’s his easy-going nature. Whatever it was, it was working on Melody and I was thankful. Colton continued. “Why don’t you and I talk for a while.” He spoke softly. “Would that be okay?” Melody nodded. Then Colton asked her something I wasn’t expecting. “Would you like Dylan to leave?”

Melody’s POV

I woke with a start. I had been having a dream about a big black wolf and me, walking through the forest. I was completely calm with it. It was very strange. I had looked into its bright yellow eyes, and I recognized them. In the haze that came from sleep, I thought to myself, wow that was very strange. Then it all came back to me: being kidnapped by this extremely hot guy, him kissing me, then taking me out to his backyard and changing into…

I jumped from the bed I was in, knocking over everything on the bedside table. My breathing became shallow and my heart jumped into overdrive. Oh, god. What was happening? Why did Dylan turn into that thing? I heard loud footsteps running up the stairs and down the hallway. I quickly backed up until I was pressed against the wall farthest from the door. I waited for whoever was coming up the steps to burst through the door.

The door flew open and Dylan and another guy burst into the room. Dylan’s eyes landed on me and he began to come towards me.

I panicked and before I knew what I was doing, I spoke frantically, “Stay away from me.” I immediately saw the hurt on his face, and felt guilty about it, but I was still panicking about him.

“Angel, it’s alright. I will never hurt you. Please, please trust me. You are safe with me.” He spoke soothingly but every time I looked at him, I remembered his body turning into that… thing.

“You… you turned into… that… a … wolf.” I stumbled over my words. Just then he looked over his shoulder at the guy that had followed him into the room. The guy stepped around Dylan and then spoke in a low, soothing voice.

“Hi, you must be Melody. I’m Colton. Why don’t you and I talk for a while? “Would that be okay?” I nodded my head, and then he asked me something odd. “Would you like Dylan to leave?”

Immediately I heard growls coming from Dylan. I shrunk back, hoping he wouldn’t hurt me. The sound immediately stopped when Dylan seen he was scaring me. At that moment it hit me, and I knew the answer to Colton’s question. I wasn’t scared of Dylan anymore. He made me feel safe. The shock was wearing off, and I could think clearly now. Dylan had already shown that in the short period of time that I had known him he would never hurt me. When he seen the bruises my dad had given me, he was super mad and wanted to hurt whoever had hurt me. I felt my heartbeat slow and my breathing began to go back to normal.

I pushed myself off the wall and spoke in a clearer, but still quiet voice, “No, that’s okay. We have some things to discuss.” I glanced over at Dylan and saw him let out the breath he had been holding.

“Okay. I’ll leave you to do that.” Colton said in his soothing voice. He gave me a reassuring smile, and then turned and began to walk out the room. As he passed Dylan he lowered his head a little and murmured, “alpha.” Alpha? What was that?

Once Colton had left the room, Dylan walked towards me, stopped a little distance away as not to invade my personal space. I glanced up at him and he was staring at me like a was a bomb that would go off at any moment.

I sighed quietly and said in a small voice, “Explain.” I needed to know everything about what he was. He seemed intent on making me stay here, and quite frankly I didn’t really want to leave anymore. Once I realized I wasn’t scared of him, I knew he was gaining my trust. I trusted so few people, and I didn’t want to lose one of those select few. Not to mention that he was really good looking.

Blushing at my inappropriate thought, I looked up at him. He smirked at me before he began him long explanation.

I couple hours later I was sitting on the couch in Dylan’s room trying to take in everything Dylan had just said. He had told me about werewolves and how they had super strength and enhanced senses. He told me about mates and the mating process. I winced again at what that entailed. First he would mark me, and then when we had finished mating, I would have a special tattoo like marking that matched the one he would have. He told me that most werewolves mated with another werewolf. Since I was just a human, this mating was very rare. I thought back to the mating, and blushed again. He told me that most mated pairs had completed the process within a week tops. For his parents it had been that day. I was feeling the pressure. I couldn’t even handle him kissing me let alone “doing it” with me. I didn’t know how to react. I needed to tell him that I wasn’t ready, but I didn’t want him to leave me because if it. I bit my lip and looked up at him. He was just staring at me. My blush deepened, he looked at me like I was a work of art, studying everything, not wanting to miss anything. I wasn’t used to that much attention. I fidgeted nervously.

Dylan suddenly got up from his chair across from me, and walked over to the couch I was on. He sat down beside me, and then wrapped his arms around my waist. He gently pulled me into his lap, being careful of my bruises. I tensed up, allowing him to hold me, but I was very uncomfortable being this close to him.

“Relax, I just need to hold you. My wolf wants you so bad, Melody.” He whispered into my neck. I felt a shiver run through me and tingles spread through my body at his touch.

“I’m sorry, I’m not used to being touched like this.” My breathy voice surprised me. I felt a blush creep onto my face when I noticed his smirk. He had noticed my voice too.

“You can’t tell me you don’t like it. I know you do.” He pulled back to look into my eyes. I avoided eye contact with him, my blush darkening.  I heard him growl and then he firmly pulled my chin up, making me look at him. “Stop looking away from me. I want you to look at me, Melody. I want to see those pretty eyes of yours. You’re so beautiful, and I want to see it all the time.” I felt my heart beat quicken and my body got hotter. I was feeling the joy at being loved fill up inside me. Suddenly I couldn’t contain by happiness anymore and I looked up at him with a smile on my face. A full blown smile.

I saw a startled look on his face, and then I crashed my mouth onto his.
