june 16th, 1970
"good morning, everyone," nicole beamed as she walked into her office.
"hey, foxy mama," her boss, hamzah, smirked. "lookin' good."
she gave him an awkward smile. "thank you, hamzah."
she absolutely adored her job with the newspaper-even though she'd only been working there for a couple of months-, but there were a few downsides. hamzah had a habit of groping her at times, and he would often subtly threaten punishment if she said anything.
so she remained quiet. all she could do was pray that he never took it any further, like so many of her friends' bosses' had done to them.
"say, i have someone who can give you the skinny on that murder victim," he told me. "um...haley sharpe, i think she was named? yeah, some guy apparently heard the murder, caught a glimpse of the murderer, and then discovered her body. i left his digits on your desk."
nicole hummed. "that sounds terrible. i'll call him today."
she grabbed her telephone and dialed the number, playing with the curly wire it had attached.
"yellow?"
"hi, my name is nicole brown. i was calling you because i was told you might have witnessed a murder, and i wanted to know if you'd be interested in an interview."
"certainly," the man on the other end agreed. "my name is chase rutherford, i can be there tomorrow."
"oh, thank you so much. i look forward to speaking with you-"
he hung up, and nicole frowned.
"he doesn't have the address." she debated calling him back.
"maybe he got it from hamzah, though." she shrugged to herself, deciding to continue with her day.
