Chapter thirty; Back to school, back to drama

▴ ◃ ▾ ▹

The holidays were over as fast as they started and students found themselves back at Hogwarts getting ready for a new semester. The greatest disappointment for Jasmine was that now she was back she had to start waking up early again. After Christmas, she usually slept in till lunch, but now her prefect duties started again. She once again found herself watching over the library alone, way before breakfast time.

It was completely empty as none of the students actually had any homework or studying since it was the beginning of January. Jasmine had her legs over the arm of the soft chair at the back of the library, her head was leaning on the cushion and her eyes were closed. She wasn't completely sleeping, she was still aware of her surroundings but it felt nice to rest a bit, not having to do anything. Everywhere around Hogwarts was covered with a thick blanket of snow and the air outside was particularly cold. Jasmine liked nothing other to stay inside near a warm fire, under thick layers of clothing.

''What are you doing?'' A voice said very near Jasmine but it didn't startle her. She did hear footsteps coming nearer.

The corners of her lips turned upwards. ''Nothing.'' She answered with an innocent voice. Her eyes were still closed but if she was to engage in a conversation she figured she would have to look at the other person.

''I can see that.'' He chuckled.

Jasmine opened her eyes and smiled cheekily at Remus who was standing nearby and looking back at her. They were alone in the library, more than half of Hogwarts was probably still asleep. Jasmine swung her legs over the edge and sat properly so she wasn't sprawled across the whole seat. Remus turned around and pulled out a chair from a table before he sat down opposite Jasmine.

''I wanted to thank you for the Christmas present but I thought it would be nicer to do so in person.'' Remus smiled and spoke with a very soft voice. ''Thank you.''

Jasmine wished she could see his face when he received and opened the package but she was happy nonetheless that he was grateful for it. She was a bit scared when she hadn't received any answer from him but now all her nerves were calmed.

''Of course, it was no problem really.'' She smiled back.

''I've got you something as well.'' Remus continued, leaning a bit forward on his seat as an eager smile tugged at his lips.

Jasmine raised her eyebrows in surprise as she didn't expect anything in return. When he didn't bring anything or have anything in his hands, confusion started settling in Jasmine.

''Check your pockets.'' Jasmine furrowed her eyebrows and dug her hands in the big pockets of her robes.

At first, she thought they were empty but then she felt parchment with her left hand. She brought it out and it was a simple piece of parchment, yet she distinctly remembered she had none in her pockets. She opened the folded part and 'hi' was written undoubtedly in Remus' handwriting. Jasmine smiled but her features still represented some sort of confusion.

Before she could ask Remus explained further. ''Put it back in your pocket and think of me.''

Jasmine narrowed her eyes at what his plan was but did what he asked her. When she put it back she was concentrated on him and within a second the parchment disappeared from her pocket. She widened her eyes a little with surprise. Remus reached inside his own pocket and pulled out the same folded piece though now it was empty.

''Since you opened it already the message disappeared and it allows you to write something else and then send it to me,'' Remus explained. He didn't know what kind of reaction he was expecting but Jasmine was pretty shocked.

Then slowly a smile appeared on her face. ''This is really clever. Now we can talk even if someone's around. This is great!'' Sudden excitement spread throughout her at the thought of this idea.

Remus smiled at her enthusiasm and was happy that she so positively accepted this concept. As they were still alone and there was some time left before any of the students could start appearing it was a perfect opportunity to talk. And they did, about everything. About how their families, holidays, how Jasmine resents her father and William, what Remus got up to with his friends, their new year's resolutions practically everything they had time for.

''You know my last year's resolution came true,'' Jasmine said with a permanent smile on her face. ''I wanted to meet new friends. And I did, I met you.''

Remus smiled in return. ''My new year's resolutions never come true, or I just set something so unimaginable and forget all about it. But this year I think I want to have more fun, not just read books in my bed or study for exams.''

Jasmine nodded listening to him. They both wished to talk more but it was almost breakfast and they rather separated before it became too risky. Remus promised he will send her a note and Jasmine couldn't wait for that to happen.

She knew her holidays would be dreadful and even though the aspect of classes didn't bring her joy, she didn't know how much she actually missed talking to Remus. Her day just got a whole lot better after their chat at the library, just by seeing his smile and hearing his voice. Her overall good mood was noticed by Lily later in the day and she couldn't help but ask about it. Jasmine quickly came up with an excuse for why that was and then changed the subject completely. After, she only hoped that Lily wasn't suspecting anything.

She was daydreaming the whole Transfiguration class, acting as if she was listening but her head was filled with Remus. After Lily had to knock her out of her daydream, Jasmine got this weird feeling in her stomach. She just spent a whole hour thinking about her friend, it was not normal. It had been happening a lot lately and Jasmine wondered if there was something else. The fact that she actually thought once how good it would be to have his arms around her again or maybe how it would feel to kiss him.

She couldn't talk about this to anyone, she never felt like this for anyone. Yes she had stupid crushes when she was younger but this was different. If she even so much as hinted something to Robyn, the girl would go into frantic and excitement and would most probably babble about it to anyone creating another unwanted rumour. So Jasmine kept to herself and swore she would have her mouth sealed forever.

When she was walking down a corridor in the late afternoon someone called her name and she turned around. ''Hey, Caspar!'' Jasmine smiled at a distressed Hufflepuff captain.

''Hey.'' He greeted back and ran a hand through his blonde curls. ''Have you seen Robyn anywhere?'' He asked as he fell in step with Jasmine, both going in the same direction.

Jasmine frowned and shook her head sadly. ''Last I saw her was in a class, but then she went somewhere. Why do you need her?'' Her eyes observed the anxious expression Caspar was wearing and it was not pleasant at all.

He sighed deeply and turned his head around for a bit in hopes to find his girlfriend. ''She was supposed to meet me at the library for studying but she never showed up.'' He frowned.

Jasmine creased her eyebrows. Robyn never mentioned she was supposed to meet Caspar today and she usually expresses every detail about their relationships. Even the ones that Jasmine doesn't want to hear. When she went the other way after their last class Jasmine figured she was on her way to meet him, but that proved to be completely false.

''I'm sorry Caspar.'' Jasmine stopped turning her whole body to him. She offered him a sympathetic smile as he looked genuinely troubled.

''Do you think-?'' Caspar stopped himself from finishing the question. Jasmine worriedly looked at him as he battled inside his head if the question was even valid. ''Do you think she's using me?''

Jasmine's lips parted in shock. She wouldn't admit she thought about the same question numerous times but didn't come with the terms to believe it. ''No.'' She answered with the most disbelieving voice she could muster.

Caspar didn't buy her act and only managed to look more frustrated than before. ''I mean I've come to notice how she acts at times,'' Caspar said but looked anywhere just not at Jasmine. ''She loves the attention, I think she always did. A few months ago I never thought that I would get a chance with her, I mean she's gorgeous. Of course, I knew she had a history with many guys before and not to mention broke things off with Black very recently. I just don't know what is happening between us anymore.''

Jasmine frowned. It was great to hear someone elaborate her best friend as gorgeous and someone amazing but even she knew that Robyn was incredibly stupid when it came to boys. The talk that Jasmine was having with Caspar was not calming him down like he hoped to and Jasmine decided to turn things around.

''I think you two should talk. And don't let her leave the conversation no matter what, I know she's going to want to.'' Jasmine explained and put that little hope into the boy in front of her that maybe, maybe everything would turn out right if he just talked to her.

Jasmine then continued with a smile. ''If I see her I'll tell her you were looking for her.''

Caspar nodded appreciatively. Then Jasmine nodded with his head into the direction of their destination and they began walking again. Caspar received back that light to his step as he walking like he always used to.

''How are practices going?'' Jasmine asked switching the conversation more into Caspar's waters.

He smiled and nodded. ''Better than ever I think. We are training hard for the upcoming Gryffindor v. Hufflepuff. I'm not jinxing anything but we might have a chance this year.'' He explained as they turned a corner on the main floor.

Jasmine's eyes moved away from him and down the corridor full of people. She quickly scanned it and then widened her eyes. William was leaning against a wall with a group of Slytherins and he was watching her. His eyes travelled to the boy next to her and smirked pushing off the wall. She could see his intentions ahead of time so she took action into her own hands.

''That's great! Look I have to leave now, but good luck with the match. I'll be rooting for you.'' Jasmine rambled in a few seconds before she turned abruptly around and walked again hiding behind the corner.

Caspar stared after her with confusion as he couldn't even say goodbye and wondered what the sudden emergency was. While behind the corner Jasmine prayed that William stayed put and that her mistake wasn't so big for him to have a go at worsening her life again. Forgetting all about the fact that she was on her way to meet Remus somewhere alone she sped off the other way, trying to get to her common room as fast as possible.

She was nearly at the barrels when she heard whispers behind a corner. She cautiously neared it, as she didn't want to be seen. Her jaw then clenched as her eyes landed on a certain pair of students. Robyn was leaning on the wall, Sirius' hands on either side of her as they were staring into each other's eyes. Jasmine saw their faces were getting nearer but she didn't want to witness it so she quickly turned around and leaned on the wall.

Gods, Robyn Hood! What on earth are you doing!?
