to see what had happened,
and see the colour drain

stomach drop.
the lump in his throat
continues to rise, and
he can barely keep
his hand on the steering
wheel.
at some point, he has
to pull over, because he
felt so exhausted, and
he knew he was about
to cry.
his shoulders trembled,
his grief evident in the
hot torrents of tears
that coursed down his
cheeks.
he slammed his fist against
the window as he lay his
head against it, his vision
rendering out of focus.
he didn't harbour feelings
for you, he told himself
that, he knew that —
but seeing
the pair of your faces, you
and kenma so irritatingly
close — it hurt.
he knew this was exactly
what his friends were trying
to prevent from happening,
but tetsurou had taken
the risk anyway,
because he wanted to know,
he wanted to see for himself
just how close the two of you
were.
and he was paying the price.
heartbreak sucks, it
hurts, and it's not something
that can be fixed instantly
in a fortnight, or just because
a new year began.
the new year would not
get rid of tetsurou's
problems. it wasn't magical.
he was still hurting,
but he brought it on himself;
so his sadness would plague him
