I have done research to back a few things up on the Inuit culture in this book. Some of the information in this book about the Inuit culture may not be true facts. I wanted to draw a little attention to things about their culture I thought was cool. Secondly, all photos that are shown are not mine. I do not claim rights to them at all. Prologue:
" Mom! Dad! Don't touch them! Put them down!" The black haired man just gave me a smile and the next thing I know they were gone. As a seven year old, I watched my parents and my pack fall around me, no match for the men that came in with guns and crossbows; hunters, specifically werewolf hunters.
I started to run towards their bodies, but a female wolf picked me up in her jaws and ran as fast she could.
"You must live, Tamaska. You will be the only one left to lead what is left of this pack one day. Your mother and father need you to live. Run away. Run as fast as you can!" Dropping me near the edge of the forest, she turned around just as a hunter came into view. He had followed us. I knew then that we were doomed, but instead of shooting the wolf, the wolf killed first. Jumping she bit down into his throat, but got a bullet in return. He died instantly. She did not. Lifting her head, she looked at me and yelled across the mind link, "RUN, TAMASKA!" I didn't want to leave her, but I heard the other hunters coming and knew she was right. I had to run and somehow the seven year old in me knew she would not make it with me. Silently crying, I nodded and bolted as fast as my little paws could carry me. They never caught up, but that doesn't mean they won't search for me until I am killed.
