Nocturnal disturbance wasn’t a rarity in the surrounding neighbourhood of their Venice home. Young adolescents would stroll through the streets, spend their time with modern music and boisterous posing due to their blooming hormones. The promenade of Venice beach was the perfect domicile for a blending of street artists, penniless beggars with their hearts at the right place, energetic athletes or abandoned addicts and dealers. All of them turned the nighttime into day. This city never sleeps.
Tonight, she felt great despise for the vibrant nightlife, she had always been a part of. The distinct noises didn’t go together with the ostensible sophistication and poshness of the interior, chosen for their mansion. Rough Hollywood and real classiness was ill-matched. Two worlds collided. Providence and guilt wasn’t compatible.
It was the early morning after her return back home from the work-related trip to France. She had been there for 3 whole month, in order for the production of ‚Ever After‘. Exceptional panorama around the Château de Hautefort, professional and focused people to work with and hopefully a nice cinematic result.
Sadly, her own mind decided to focus on a different kind of distraction. His name was Dolyn, which had its origin in the Irish language and meant ‚dark haired boy‘. He lived up to his name and had one of the most gorgeous and masculine facial features she ever laid her eyes upon. His skilled hands let her forget about her domestic agreements.
Her consciousness must have come back to Anjelica, the moment Robert wrapped his strong arms around her waist, in attempt to hinder her from overlooking him in the crowd at the airport. The love for his boyish charm and his tireless affection towards her, made her feel so enarmored that it seemed like the first time they had met. He showered her in kisses and didn’t stop telling her how much he had missed her. Sometimes it felt unreal to her, that they were already married for solid six years.
Some hours later she found herself in the enormous mahogany double bed, tossing and turning, devastated to get some sleep. Anjelica wasn’t sure if the loud bangs in front of the window were caused by firecrackers that went off or if it was an actual gunfire. All she knew was, that she surely wouldn’t get a single minute of sleep tonight.
When she looked to her left, she noticed that Robert also opened his eyes and bestowed her with a sympathetic glance. The incoming moonlight made his eyes shimmer in the darkness of the night and once again she noticed how beautiful this man was and with how much love he managed to look at her. It broke her heart to keep a secret from him. Robert didn’t deserve to be cheated on. She didn’t deserve him.
„Let me guess, you imagined your first night at home in a different way, huh?“, Robert muttered with a warm and full voice. She couldn’t hide an impish smirk. „No, why? There is nothing that cures a jetlag better than listening to bongo players at 3 in the morning!“ He chuckled, followed by a compassionate rumble and brushed a loose strand of brown hair out of her face. „How I missed your dark humor.“
„Only my humor? Nothing else?“, Anjelica moved on top of him and gave him a playful look. „I missed the whole woman! From your beautiful, stubborn head to your toes!“, Robert cut her off and started to spread kisses along her throat. She had longed for his touch and the intimate moments between them. Just when she leaned in for a passionate kiss, there was another sonorous crash outside and people shouting at each other.
She sighed and raised from their tender position. „Let’s see what’s on tv!“ With a quick movement she grabbed the remote control and fought her way through the american night program. She crossed a game of the Lakers and could feel her eyes slowly closing, when she coincidentally stopped flipping channels at one of her dad’s movies.
Sometimes she wondered how many of his character traits she had inherited. She should be the one who was familiar with heartbreak, yet here she was, doing the same mistake to Robert.
If she had the chance to talk to her dad one last time, to ask him for advice, he would say something along the lines of „What happens in France, stays in France“. But she knew that her guilty conscience would betray her sooner or later.
