A Setter and His Ace |Iwaoi

Prologue

"My name is Iwaizumi Hajime, it's a pleasure to meet you all."

A boy just transferred to my class. His name is Iwaizumi Hajime. He seems super antisocial but he looks nice.

"Thank you Iwaizumi~san, please take a seat next to our class leader, Tooru Oikawa, Oikawa~san please raise your hand."

The teacher looks at me and I raise my hand. The boy sits next to me. He has spiked hair that's like a super deep brown and he looks a tad taller than me.

"Oikawa~san, please take Iwaizumi~san around the school during lunch, can you do that for me?"

I stand up and slightly bow, "Yes of course!"

She then starts talking about the homework we did. This boy transferred midway through fourth grade. He'll have to get caught up but I'm here to help!

"Iwaizumi~san, do you know how to multiply?"

"Oh, yeah I do."

"Wah! Maybe you can help! I'm super bad at it!" I complain.

He gives a slight laugh, "Sure, Oikawa~san."

That was just the start of this thrilling adventure I'd have with Iwaizumi Hajime.

"Join the Volleyball Club with me Iwaizumi!" I say.

"You're hilarious, why would I do that?"

"Because, you should do sports, it's good for you!"

"If I really wanted to do sports, I can choose to do soccer or track. Volleyball is a girl's sport."

"That's not true! Have you not seen any Boy's Volleyball matches? Those guys are amazing! Come on, just try for one day?"

".....Fine, but you owe me Ramune!"

"Sounds good to me!"

It's the first year of junior high. I knew Iwaizumi didn't want to do anything like sports but it'd be nice to have a good friend on the team. He kinda keeps me out of trouble and somehow knows what I'm thinking! I swear he's like a physic! Hmm maybe I should check to see if he loves coffee jelly.....

I pack up my stuff from class and head to the gym. Iwaizumi follows me close as I open the doors. Everyone smiles at me then turns to Iwaizumi who is hiding somewhat behind me.

"Hey guys! My friend Iwaizumi is gonna watch us play for today! I want him to join but we have to convince him!"

They all smile at him. He gets a light blush in his face and sits on the side. I walk up to him to explain the positions.

"I play setter! That means I set the ball so the spikers can hit the ball over the net and SLAM hit the floor!"

"Is the setter important?"

"Wah! Yes of course Iwaizumi! If you didn't have a good setter than you'd have to rely on blocking and that's super hard!"

"Okay okay, chill out. I was just curious."

I keep explaining each position. And then I convinced him to try something.

"Hey Iwaizumi, why don't you come try to spike a ball!"

"Spike a ball?"

"Yeah! I can set one to you and then you can see if you like it!"

"....I guess it won't hurt to try."

He gets up off the floor and we walk to the nets. Most of the team is taking a quick break so it's the perfect time.

I grab a volleyball and explain to Iwaizumi how to spike. That's when the team captain shows up.

"Oikawa, what are you doing?"

"Ah! Um well I uh wanted Iwaizumi to see if he uh liked to spike...."

"Then let me toss the ball for you."

"Really? Thank you captain!"

I'm not gonna lie, I forgot the captain's name. The guy is in his last year of junior high and he's kinda scary. When he approached me I thought I was dead meat.

He tosses the ball towards me and I set it. The set wasn't perfect and a little high but Iwaizumi hit the ball almost perfectly. It smacked onto the ground and when I looked at everyone's faces, they were all in shock.

"He could be our ace." I hear the captain mumble.

I smirk a bit when I look at Iwaizumi. He had a huge smile on his face and his eyes were wide. You can tell he enjoyed that. I walk up to him.

"How'd it feel Iwaizumi?"

"That- that was awesome! Set to me again! I wanna try again!"

So I set to him again, and again, and again. While the rest of the team practice receives from Iwaizumi's spikes, we never once stopped.

"I want to join, Oikawa."

I look up at the building in front of me. The building is big and I stare in awe.

"We made it Iwa. We made it to high school."

In front of me and Iwaizumi is Aboa Johsai High. It's one of the best high schools in the Miyagi Prefecture, and somehow both me and Iwaizumi made it.

"How did we get into this school? It's one of the best schools around." Iwaizumi looks at the school in front of us in awe as well. "I mean, I knew I could do it, but how did you get in, Oikawa?"

"Rude!"

He snickers. We glance at each other and start walking into our new school.

"One touch!"

Hanamaki receives the ball and it heads near me. I set the ball almost perfectly to Iwaizumi. He spikes it and it hits the floor on the other side of the net. And with that we won our practice match against Date Tech.

"Nice set captain!" Kindaichi yells.

I smile at him. "Thanks! But you should be complimenting Iwa~Chan! He is the one who hit the set perfectly!"

Iwa looks at me and rolls his eyes. I give him a smile and pack up my stuff.

Date Tech leaves and the team heads to the locker room.

"Hey guys, great play out there today! Kunumi and Kindaichi let's work on those blocks though! And Makki, let's try to aim a little higher next receive!"

"Right." Makki says then starts changing.

I get thumbs up from Kindaichi and Kunumi as they start changing too.

Soon enough the only people left in the changing room is me and Iwa.

"Hey, Iwa~Chan, do you think I need to work on anything?"

"You? Yeah, you need to work on not getting distracted by the girls."

"I don't get distracted!"

"Ha! Sure you don't, Loserkawa."

"Hey I'm not a loser! You're being mean."

I stick my tongue out at him and he just laughs. Then we both finish getting dressed and head home.
