I sat there bewildered.
"Umm I guess, well, she's hurting" I was being honest. My wolf she was hurting bad that her true mate hadn't come to find her yet or that we hadn't gone out in search of him. She howled internally at the mention of how she felt but she secretly liked her independence. I smirk which catches the eye of my mother who raises an eyebrow at me
"She longs for her companion" I say "Her true companion"
She stares at me focussed on the way I react. She places a hand on my shoulder and looks deep into my eyes
"I'm sorry sweetheart, I know how you feel, I waited a long time for your father, though at the time I wasn't really looking but he was... He needed his Luna and without her he was nothing" She says. I sat there realising she had never mentioned this to me before. I guess watching one of four of her children walk around mateless is hurting her as well "At eighteen he never came, even when I was in heat he never came so I went to university to study business and accounting, when I returned here... his scent was intense and it can only be that intense to a wolf if you were a mate of an alpha"
She explained to me that for an alpha to mate with a lower breed was common but only if that wolf were strong in many other ways. Many girls wish they had that quality that the Alpha needed in a Luna but you weren't trained that way, you were born that way.
"What would happen if I don't have my mate? Could I be with another?" I ask as she gives me a questioning look then a one in complete shock
"No!" She says "You will wait for him, although patience is not your strong suit my dear... I will not let you be marked by another, your wolf will definitely not let you mate another and I sure as hell won't accept another unless he is your mate... do you understand me?" She sighs seeing the look in my eyes "I'm sorry sweetheart, I've only heard stories of people without their true mate and it doesn't end very well unless their mate died"
And that is why she is Luna, she is made for her alpha. Both strong, yet loving at the same time. Strict and caring all in one.
I sigh quietly and stare at her "I was just asking mum"
She continued to stare at me as if she knew something that she shouldn't. Oh please tell me she doesn't know about me and Daniel. I refused to let her see it in my eyes.
"Ok sweetheart... Now be careful tonight and don't have too much fun, tell Daniel if anything happens to you, I will make sure your brothers bring him back to me so I can personally smack him upside the head" She says smiling giving me her cheeky grin
"Mum, he is my best friend and I think he wouldn't do that with his dad being beta" I say and I rush out into the night shifting as soon as the door closes behind me and run to meet Daniel who I know would be waiting for me as our spot

I could smell Daniel as soon as I got to our spot. The night was lit up from the light of the moon and cascaded down on the field where we meet nearly every night
"Hey" he says putting his arms around my waist from behind. I lean my head back resting it just under his shoulder where I always put it
I tensed up at the memory of the conversation I had with my mother. If she found out about Daniel, I don't know what would happen
"What's wrong?" He asks making me turn around
"I just I, I'm worried if our parents find out about us... The daughter of an alpha and son of his beta together not mates?" I say trying to look away when he uses his fingers to make me face him and I feel his lips gently touch mine
