The first time Kurt Wagner and Bianca Gordon met was when they were children and she was an orphan, homeless and wandering Germany after an incident caused her to run away from home.

Born in Scotland, Bianca Gordon ran away from her adoption facility at the age of 7 after discovering her mutation and scaring a maid nearly to death (heart attack) when she transmuted her carbon shield for the first time after getting upset. She took a boat to the Netherlands where she stayed for a while, scrounging on the street for food in the dead of night and staying concealed at train stations during the day as there were many places to hide. She then discovered her ability to become invisible and did so more often than not, quickly honing that quirk at the expense of her energy, as she slept most of the day hidden behind and sometimes inside crates.
After living in Amsterdam for a few months, she becomes more confident and wants to travel and try to seek out others like her, if they even existed. She decided to hitch a ride on a train to Germany and does so, hoping to peddle enough money to buy some actual food as she heard the folks there were quite wealthy. She arrives in Munich, and sees a news article about the circus that was to be active that night. Figuring that would be the perfect place to beg for money and food, she asks a woman where the circus is and the woman fishes a map out of her purse and shows Bianca, and when the lady is about to ask Bianca where her mother is, the girl had disappeared out of thin air. She travels a few miles to the circus grounds and remains invisible to stake it out, seeing performers and other people walking around, some in groups verbally going over their act or practicing.
She sits atop a barrel, eating some stale bread she had stored in her pocket. Bianca figures by the position of the sun that the circus will start soon, and as she takes a sip of water from her beat-up metal canteen, she hops down. The last crumbs of her bread finished, she has her eyes set on a full trash bin out of the way of the performers. She makes her way over, still invisible. Hiding behind the trash can as she discreetly roots through it, she turns visible from exhaustion of her powers, wishing she hadn't eaten her bread so quickly. Just as she finds a half-eaten apple and goes to take a bite, a boy enters her field of vision seemingly clad in a blue devil costume of some sort. She screeches and scrambles to hide her apple, ashamed of her predicament.
"Vhat are you doing back here eating an old apple, and uh... Who are you, vhat's your name?" The young Kurt asks shyly, confused as to why there's a girl here all alone eating scraps out of the trash. "I-I I'm... my name's Bianca..." She says in her thick Scottish accent, avoiding the first question. "Vell.. I'm Kurt. I can get you some real food, ya know." The boy says with a grin, shaking her hand enthusiastically. Suddenly, he runs away with a 'be right back!' Bianca waits, stepping out of her hiding place and pocketing the apple. Kurt rushes back with a paper sack in hand, clutching a ticket to the circus in his other hand. He bounces happily in front of her, offering both the sack and the ticket.
"Here! You can sit inside and vatch the show vhile you eat!" He says, his diminutive german accented voice squeaking with excitement. He hasn't met too many people his age so he's absolutely ecstatic. Bianca grins widely and thanks him, taking the gifts. This is when she takes notice of his hands but decides it must just be an odd costume accent. She rustles open the bag, pocketing the ticket and reaching into the bag to pull out a pear, a packet of crackers, and a wrapped up sandwich. "Th-This is... I haven't had food like this in months." She says longingly, her eyes tearing up. She rushes forward and crushes Kurt in a hug, thanking him again while crying some happy tears. He laughs and hugs her back, blushing shyly. This is when she takes notice of his tail and how it swayed relaxedly as they hugged, and her heart rate picked up, more out of excitement than fear because she thinks maybe his blue fur isn't a costume. But she figures she'll get to asking questions when it's more appropriate.
"Vell go on, you're clearly hungry. I have to ask though... You don't sound German... And you're here all alone..." He says cautiously as the hug is broken and she takes a big grateful bite out of the pear. After chewing and swallowing, she looks down at her feet sheepishly. "I um... I'm from Scotland. I came here after living alone in Amsterdam because I'm... I'm different. I can show you but you have to promise not to call the police." She begs, looking into his eyes. His interest is clearly peaked as he looks around, then grabs her free hand and drags her back to the original hiding spot of hers. "Ok show me, cause uh, I'm different too. But you first, ok?" He says with a grin, and she nods as her confidence grows. "O-okay.." she squeaks and focuses for a second, then herself and the things she's holding become completely transparent. He gasps in awe and reaches out, touching her shoulder but not seeing her. "Whoa... Zat's so cool!" He says, jaw slack in amazement. She becomes visible, smiling bashfully.
"I um.. I can also transform so my skin is like.. black but also I can't get hurt very bad when I'm like that." She says, concentrating very hard on her arm and the carbon from her body slowly rises to the surface and hardens atop her skin, giving her entire forearm and hand a matte midnight black appearance. Just as soon as she gets it to solidify, her hold on the power breaks and the inky blackness seeps back into her body. A slack jawed Kurt stares at her in wonder. "Wow, zat vas.... Awesome." He gasps, smiling after he gets over the shock. She smiles back "Now your turn." She demands, her curiosity getting the better of her. Kurt smiles and stretches his prehensile tail forward, wrapping it loosely around her wrist for a few moments, then lets go. Then he steps into the shadows and seemingly disappears. Kurt then steps back into the light and he's there again. Bianca squeals softly, amazed by his powers. "That's so cool! We must both be different than regular people somehow for a reason, like uh, martians or something!" She speculates, sending them both into a fit of giggles. Suddenly they hear a woman calling Kurt's name and he frowns.
"Aw.. I gotta go. Come in and vatch the circus though, you gotta see how good I am at acrobatics." He grins and gives her a quick hug then walks away. Bianca smiles, finishing her pear then putting the rest of the food in her rucksack. She enters the circus after presenting her ticket to the entry guard. Bianca sits through the circus, nibbling slowly on her crackers. She finds much of it interesting and amazing but not anything as amazing as Kurt's performance. Sadly, after the circus is over, she is not able to find him anywhere. Disheartened, she moves on, begging in the streets for pocket change. For some reason, after checking the circus grounds again many times, she's unable to catch up with him.
