Operation Tower

"I have a bad feeling about this." Levi muttered under his breath.

Dropping her binoculars, Hange replied "This is going to be brilliant. No civilians or cities for miles, five squads are ready in the shelters and we have Eren's titan on standby." The trench where Hange was leading this operation was one of many muddy incisions in the flat green hills outside the walls. A series of dugouts and staging grounds used by the Scouting Corps.

"You are too excited. This could go horribly wrong if the situation gets away from us." Levi crossed his arms, leaning against Hange.

"We don't have a choice; we cannot engage Marley without this weapon. It is our good fortune that we have the best person in control of it. Erwin had faith in him and so do I." She smiled patting Levi.

"Stop that Four Eyes. I would stand somewhere else by these trenches are caked in filth."

That excuse was partially true.

Mikasa and Eren rode up to the edge of the trench, "Commander he is ready."

"What do you think Eren?" Hange asked as they dismounted and began leading their horses into the trench.

Eren kept looking straight on with a blank expression, "He will be fine, Commander."

With a huge grin, Hange grabbed her flare gun from her waist. "Then let this operation begin." She fired a trail of green smoke into the sky.

A gigantic explosion of steam was launched into the sky from the centre of the testing grounds. The survey corps covered their ears and crouched in the dugouts for protection but even that wasn't enough to completely shield them from the huge heatwave. Hange peered over the trench line to see emerging from the steam, Armin's Colossal Titan.

Soldiers basked in his shadow, steadied their thunder spears and tried to remain calm in the presence of such destructive power. Hange and Levi waited nervously for either the all clear sign or something else. This was Armin's first transformation and they still knew very little about the colossal titan. Armin hadn't been able to recover any of Bertholdt's memories yet so being able to manipulate his titan would rely solely on instinct.

It seemed much more gracile compared to Bertholdt's, with its exposed ribs and slender arms. The titan stood up to his full height, shifting his footing a little, putting huge vibrations into the ground. Armin drew his long arms from his side and held them up in front of his face just watching the fingers move. Hange's anticipation was growing by the instant, her maniac smile growing, finally erupting when Armin kneeled down and placed his hands on the ground. He had managed to stay in control.

Hange, Levi, Mikasa and Eren mounted up and rode towards Armin. Changing to 3D manoeuvre gear they zipped along his arm and landed on his face. "Armin, can you hear me?" Hange called into one of Armin's ears.

He seemed a little startled by the loud noise. Despite the impressive size and build of the colossal titan it had somehow token on some of Armin's innocence. He began blinking a series of dots and dashes.

"This is incredible Armin. You are able to control the colossal titan immediately. Perhaps some of the titan powers are more difficult to control than others." Hange pondered staring hungrily into Armin's eye.

Levi scoffed in Eren's direction. "Or maybe Eren was shit at controlling his at the start."

Eren wasn't really phased but Mikasa was, glaring at Captain Levi. The Ackerman staring contest was interrupted when Hange began crawling into Armin's nose. Levi, Mikasa and Armin were shocked by the Commander's actions. Mikasa wouldn't let Hange mistreat little Armin, Levi wouldn't stand for Hange's mess and Armin was generally frightened about the whole test.
