Falling In Love

"Ooh look a squirrel!", Jody exclaimed.

"What are you a dog?", Aaron asked shoving her off the sidewalk.

"Maybe I am.", Jody said shoving him right back. Aaron collided with me and I stumbled into John.

"Sorry" I say feeling my face flush and shoving Aaron back into Jody. "Cut it out you too". Jody just rolled her eyes at me.

"Its fine, so what are we thinking churros and hot chocolate?" John says looking down at me.

"Yeah, that sounds good", I say with a smile. Jody mumbles to Aaron and I swear they are mocking me.

"I'll pay",  John volunteers and Aaron grins.

"Sweet!" Jody grins too, "Me and Aaron can grab a table, and Penny you go with John to get the food." I start to protest but Johns smile stops me, making my flush deepen. As we wait in line, I feel my skin start to prickle, and I shiver from the cold.

"Here" John says and takes off his hoodie, I tell myself not to look at the sliver of his abs that is exposed. Somehow I fail spectacularly and the smile on his face widens fractionaly. He holds the hoodie out to me and I take it.

"Thanks" I mumble, in sure my face has turned even more red. Part of me wishes I could refuse the hoodie because there really isn't a graceful way to put one on, but I can't just hold it, and I am cold. I squeeze in, messing up my already wind ruffled hair. John takes his hand and brushes it behind my ear with a smile. Then he turns and begins to order our food,  hot chocolate and four churros; three with caramel and one with cream cheese. He remembered that I hate caramel, this little fact is surprisingly endearing. John hands me the bag of churros and I startled, realizing I've just been staring at him while he ordered. I smile relishing in the lovely aroma that came out.

"Ooh that's a pretty tree", I state, "Perfect for sitting in".

"Want to climb it?" He asks.

"Are you serious?" I ask as we arrive at the table.

"Serious about what?" Jody asks as she snatches her churro bag and hot chocolate.

"We were going to eat in that tree",  John said.

"Oh that sounds fun", Aaron started. With a quick glance between me and John, Jody jumped in.

"I don't want to chip a nail. Aaron stay with me?"

"But-", Aaron began, but then he seemed to catch on and smiled. "Yeah I'll stay" he added. I tried to fight the panic that grew inside of me as John took my arm.

"Come on", he said with an encouraging smile, "It'll be fun". I felt his arm on mine, it was warm and sent flutters through me. We came to the tree, he grabbed the churros out of my hand and set the bag on the ground.

"I'll give you a boost, then hand up the food", he stated. Suddenly his hands were on my waist and I felt myself stiffen, then I was half way up the trunk, grasping onto a low branch, I couldn't believe how easily he lifted me up. A small laugh escaped me as I pulled myself the rest of the way up. It struck me just how ridiculous this probably was, but I accepted the food from John and watched as he pulled himself up easily, into the tree, beside me. I walked along a branch until I found a nice crook, John slid in beside me.

He gracefully stole his churro and  began to eat, "You ever notice your eyes look like fall leaves?" He said.  I tried to cover my smile with a churro, but a blush escapes onto my cheeks.

"My dad always said it looks like his favorite beer at the bar," I say. John laughs, its a light sound that sends my heart into a flutter. He plucks a beautiful auburn leaf off of the tree and turns to me, holding it beside my eye.

"See a perfect match" his deep blue eyes peirce into mine. I can feel myself getting lost in them like a deep sea. I smile, but my breath hitch as he shifts his position a little, bringing his face closer to mine. I can smell sweet hot chocolate on his breath. He drops the the leaf, bringing his fingers down to my jawline. Then he moves, his lips brush across mine like fire. I take a sharp inhale, suprise blossoming through me. Then I embrace it, I push into him. Flames racing through my face, I take my hand and bring it to his neck, pushing my hand into his hair. I feel him shift with suprise. He moves his thumb, rubbing it across my jawline, speeding up my heart faster than I ever thought it would go. Then he breaks the kiss, a devilish smile playing on his lips. 

I pull back a little as well, my face hot, "What?", I ask, wanting to know what he is smiling about.

He shakes his head, "You just surprised me thats all," he says, but continued when he sees the worried look on my face. "In a good way".

"Thanks" I say looking down at my shoes. "You were..."

"Amazing? Yeah I know." John said tilting my head back up to meet his, he winks and then pulls me to my feet. I feel light headed and a little off balance, and I realize that a tree probably isn't the best place to be. I stumble a little but John catches me and I realize he won't let me fall. I have never felt so free, I felt like I was floating on a cloud. He led me to the trunk of the tree. He jumped down and turned back up to me. "Jump",  he said.

"What!?" I exclaimed, shock in my voice.

"Just do it, I'll catch you",  he said holding out his arms, and with that I lept.
