L'manberg was a special place.
I remember my first day there. I arrived after a long journey through the dark forests and waited for Wilbur to come and bring me to L'manberg. He arrived soon enough but not alone. In fact, he was rarely alone in the day. Either Tommy, Tubbo, or even both were with him. He came with all the citizens of L'manberg. Tommy, Tubbo, Fundy, and himself. They came singing and shouting, trampling over each other's heels and breaking branches. I laughed to myself at the sound of their noise, could they've been any louder? When they finally arrived I waved to them and they all waved back, excitedly. Tubbo came rushing down to greet me with a hug, and Fundy gave me a messy bouquet of red flowers.
"Wil said you would love them!" And I did.
I followed them through the forest and onto a wooded path. "This is the prime path" Tommy proudly stated. We walked along the path altogether, everyone excitedly pointing out special landmarks and homes. I could already tell I would love this place. "Fellas none of this is even L'manberg!" Wil laughed. Right, L'manberg. The new nation, the land of redwood trees and vans. Wil told me so much about it in our letters back and forth. I was actually thrilled that I was going to see it and even live in it. We continued to walk along the path until we came to it.
The special place.
It was amazing, with its blackstone walls and tall trees. Open gate and overgrown van. It was exactly how I imagined it to be. It definitely wasn't the prettiest place I had ever seen, but it was still so beautiful. We all stood for a moment, taking it in.
"What are we waiting for guys?" Fundy exclaimed, we all laughed and headed down towards the gate.
As we approached I saw signs in front of the gate. I paused to read them before heading in "oh, don't worry about those" Wil said.
"What?" I questioned, I didn't want anything to be hidden from me. I wanted this place to be different, I wanted to be noticed and acknowledged.
"They're just bombing threats from Dream, no big deal," Tubbo said monotoned. Everyone laughed but I didn't. "What are they!" "Like Tubbo said" Tommy laughed "you see this country, it was almost blown up by this crazy guy named Dream."
I had so many questions and they were keeping answers from me. Wil put his hand on my shoulder
"we'll tell you everything tonight Niki, don't worry." I nodded in understanding.
We headed inside and they showed me the lake and the van. The van was very underwhelming. The way that Wil had talked it up as being "the room where it happened" and "a turning point in history" had me imagining it as this big, shiny van. But it was basically in pieces. It was being held together with rocks and vines. Plants had grown in and over it and the inside was a pure mess. But they seemed proud of it, also very protective of it.
"THIS!" Tommy said excitedly "is THE van!"
"What's so special?" I asked half-jokingly.
"Oh Niki, just like I told you in the letters!" Wil paused "This may not seem like much, it's not, but so much happened here." "Potions were brewed, meetings were held!" Wil got loud when he was excited, he was borderline shouting "If this van was never built, we wouldn't be standing in this place, we wouldn't have this freedom." He looked towards the van, "This van is the reason we are here."
After I was shown around the rest of L'manberg, we all sat down near the docks to watch the sunset. Just as the sky began turning pink, Tommy suddenly sprinted away. "Where is he going?" I asked, "and why so quickly?" Before anyone could answer, he came back with a music player a collection of discs. "What? It's tradition!" Tommy exclaimed. He put on a song named "cat" and sat down with us.
The warm wood was comforting against my skin and the smell of the ocean created the most amazing feeling. As the song played softly behind us, we watched the sun slowly melt into the waves and the light slowly fade from the sky. I have never felt so peaceful than at that moment. I knew that the long journey was going to be worth every moment here. I found my family, my home.
I wanted to keep this feeling forever, I wanted to keep L'manberg forver.
