Yulin awoke to the sound of gates opening. She was still lying in the carriage with other slaves and she silently wished she could have slept some more, but she knew the little rest she was allowed to have was over. She felt the carriage jolt to a stop and shortly after the blinds were lifted, causing a sudden rush of the bright sun to over take her. Groaning, she lifted her hand to shield her eyes from the pain. She remembered always being warned by her mother not to look up at the ray of the sun, because she was born with an illness she wasn't sure about. But she was sure the sun burned like hell in her eyes everytime she looked up. "Out you go girl", the captain yelled snapping her back to reality and she crawled out of the carriage standing in line with the other girls. She took time cleaning the dust from her old dress as she searched the line for Delia, her cousin. Yulin could not have been happier when she found out that Delia would be sold with her. Delia was the only family she had left after the third war in Movire, and she didn't want to lose her too. "Listen up!", the captain called and Yulin put her hands together looking at the ground. It was only the normal way a slave was to behave, "never look into a master's eyes", her mother had said. "You are now at the Rootimore estate, you will behave as you should", that was all Yulin had heard, she was more interested in the huge mansion in front of her. She had heard about the Rootimores, how the master had made all his money from trading fresh herbs and food, and how the entire Movire had always looked up to them. But what bothered her the most was the cruelty she had heard about, the master and his wife were known for treating their slaves as pigs, and she had also heard about the few slaves who had offended the master and didn't live to tell their stories. Yulin stole a glance at Delia, how would they survive here? "Are you listening girl?", the captain asked now standing in front of her, "yes sir", she replied quickly, she knew better than to keep a master waiting. "Getting lost in your thoughts already I see", he laughed lifting her head up by her chin and she quickly shut her eyes to block out the harsh sun, "you continue like that and you won't last a day here". Yulin looked back at the ground as soon as he let her go, and the rate at which her heart was beating told her the captain was right, she wouldn't survive a day in this place.
