I sat on the tiny bed that my parents had made as a makeshift one. I stared at the concrete wall across from me as I heard the footsteps of my parents coming down the stairs. I flinched at every step they took. They soon came into view. I looked up at them. My mother grabbed my arm and dragged me off the bed. My parents then began to hit me, letting me lay on the sandpaper-like floor. That night, when they left me alone in the basement, I snuck out of the window above my bed. I took off into the forest, running away from the house. That was when I was 7.

I'm now 17. I've lived in this forest for 10 years, avoiding the predators, poachers, and the hybrids. One day, I was tracking a deer through the forest when I came across a clearing. I looked around to check for any predators or hybrids. I didn't see any, so I went through the clearing. I got about halfway through when pain shot up my leg and I heard a metallic clink. I cried out and looked down. I saw that my leg had gone through a hybrid trap. I fell to the ground and tried to pull my leg out of the trap, but only managed to tear the wound open even more. I heard the low growl of a hybrid and I looked towards the sound. I saw a hybrid coming through the clearing slowly, as if I was a startled animal ready to flee if it made a sudden move. It stopped just short of my leg and grabbed onto the trap with its mouth.

It slowly looked up at me with his bright blue eyes. Its black body made the eyes stand out as he slowly moved to pull the trap. It gave me a look that told me to pull the other side. I nodded slightly and grabbed the other side. I pulled and together, managed to get my leg free. Once it was free, the hybrid took the trap from the ground and reared up on its rear wheels, showing its teeth and strength, hurled the trap away. I watched as it settled back down, resting its front wheels on the dirt again.

"Easy, let me see your leg," it said

"You... You talk?" I asked

"I do," it replied. It looked at my leg before looking back up at me, "Do you trust me?"

"Why are you asking me that?"

"Because, I'm going to try to heal the wound a bit. At least until you get medical help,"

"I guess I trust you? You'd probably eat me if I said no,"

This made the hybrid laugh, "Oh no. Only Vortex hybrids eat humans. Cilt hybrids eat wild game like deer and the like,"

"Cilt? You mean it exists?"

"It does. And I'm one of their Warriors,"

"Huh. I was told it was nothing more than just legend,"

"No, it is real,"

"I trust you then,"

The hybrid looked at my wound and then licked it like a dog would give kisses. It stung and I pulled my leg away

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Did my tooth get you?" the hybrid asked, backing away

"That stung!" I exclaimed

"Sorry, the saliva does sting, but look, the wound is already starting to heal,"

I looked and saw that what it said was true, "Woah,"

"I can bring you to the European Metropolis,"

"No! I don't want to go back there,"

"But you're human?"

"I ran away from there,"

"Why?"

"My parents. I've been out here for 10 years because they began to hit me,"

"I can take you to Cilt if you want then. They'd never find you,"

"You would?"

"I'd even train you if I could,"
