Sparrow's Sorrow, retold

There once lived she,
Who soared the skies,
The light of day
The purple nights

Week after week
Filled with laughter
Peaceful innocence
Gleeful chatter

Until upon
A world she stumbled
Fantasies unveiled
Secrets mumbled

This world she escaped
Escaped and survived
And yet she was lost
Lost in the night

"Release me," she cried
"Let me go!
"Set me free!
"Give me hope!"

But alas,
Trapped remained she
For she was the cage
And she was the key

Her friends thought it silly
They called her a lie
Dismissed her words
And laughed while she cried

No one understood
Thus alone she became
Shrouded by darkness
Empty and vain

She flew one night
A clear black sky
The moon gazed down
On a desolate night

Familiar landscape
Had lost its warmth
What was once a home
Shrouded in evil growths

"This is home,
"Yet it feels unknown
"I feel so lost,
"I feel so alone."

"This is me,
"Yet I feel trapped,
"I'm not free,
"I am cracked."

She felt a presence
Let out a sigh
A lingering smile
As she closed her eyes

There once lived she,
Who soared the skies
From which she fell
Without a cry

She didn't try
To stop the fall
No resistance
None at all

No regrets
As she hit the dirt
No more pain,
Yet no more mirth

Everything broken
That still remained
What was a girl
Death now reclaimed

Happy days would come
Never again
Yet misery, too
Would not remain

At last she was free
At last.

In pieces the cage lay,
At last.

And there,
Under the soft, dying moonlight
The broken girl faded.

A poem I wrote based off one that my friend wrote. All idea credits go to my friend Amy Patchi at bitly.com/2ITMQoP (youtube link). She wrote a poem named Sparrow's Sorrow, and I found the idea and plot quite fascinating so I decided to rewrite it myself. Shoutout to her!
