Hi my name is Amy, well that's my nickname! This is my personal experience with scoliosis. Please feel free to ask any questions about my scoliosis experience!
So where do I begin. In 2018 I started experiencing pains in my back. However, me being me I didn't tell my parents. I continued, knowing the pain was still there. It then came to a point where I knew something was wrong. I'm not sure of the exact dates but around February 2019 I began to experience severe pains in my back. I then informed my parents about it and they took me to the doctors. The doctor examined my back and she knew there was a curvature of the spine. At that point in time I didn't really know what was going on or what my diagnosis was. However, I did think it was serious. The doctor then referred me to a specialist in my local hospital. However, this appointment was after 6 months after seeing the doctor. I was in pain for about 6 months, but I continued to take prescribed medication.
The day finally came where I had to go to see the specialist. I remember being petrified as I didn't know what they were going to say. At that appointment, the specialist diagnosed me with scoliosis. You are probably thinking what is scoliosis. Well Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that occurs most often during the growth spurt just before puberty. I had an X ray and the results said that my back was about 48 degrees. Thats a lot if you were wondering. The specialist went through the ways to prevent the hump getting bigger and what in the long run I could get done. I didn't need a brace as my spine was bigger then 30 degrees. Therefore, the only option was surgery. When the specialist first mentioned that I needed surgery my hurt started pumping tremendously fast. I was in shock and didn't know what to do.
I then returned home and that was the start!
