I was drenched in the rain, while I was walking back from school. The fall season has begun, in Newport, England. The rain has finally stopped, the colors of the grey sky started to faint, making way for the sun to shine, the streets were filled with pumpkin coloured leaves. I hardly see any people walking, due to the cold weather that has started lately. I live with my family in a fancy, double storey, outdated house, it looked like an cottage house. When I enter the house, my dog Zoe greets me by licking my face full of saliva and barking.
" Honey, are you back from school!", yelled Mum in a sweet tone.
" Yeah!" I replied while entering the kitchen.
She then scans me from head to toe,"Oh Jo! You're drenched in water, I told you to bring an umbrella." Mum looked worried, "Oh well, clean yourself up, I have made your favorite, Spaghetti Bolognese!"
I always loved how Mum made the best out of a bad situation, she often tries to forget the car accident that my beloved dad was in, when I was just 4 years old. I don't bring up the topic, as Mum will begin to cry. After finishing the scrumptious meal,
I laid in my bed while scrolling on my phone, checking the news. My jaw dropped when I read the most shocking news: New Flash- the great pacific garbage patch, has increased by 20%, it is now twice the size of Texas! I couldn't even believe my eyes, I had to read twice, before I could process the infomation. "I have to do something about it, if we don't take action now there would be more plastic than fish!" I thought drifting off to sleep.

"Stop! stop throwing rubbish in the ocean and first of all stop using plastic!" I felt like  punching them. "Jo! Just agree with them and let's get going" Mum was begging. Suddenly I heard a faint ringing sound in the background, it grew louder and louder. I suddenly woke up from my dream to snooze the alarm, but before I could hit the snooze button, I looked at the time on my phone, I nearly dropped my phone, "It's 10:00 am you gotta be kidding me, I am late to school! I leapt out of bed, at a drop of a hat I put on a pair of denim jeans and a sweatshirt. I burst into the kitchen and grabbed a piece of toast. "Jo, did you get your homework?" Mum said in concern, "yup all done, bye Mum love you." I said while rushing to the door. I sprinted to school as fast as I could, I reached the school door before third period, I suddenly realized that today was the final exam, and I forgot to revise," I'm going to die, I was busy researching about my new project!" I muttered while heading to class. " Miss Jo, you're late for your exam, we started 1 hour ago," exclaimed Mrs Poppy. I knew I was getting detention, I thought the holidays were going to be a bit more exciting.
"Sorry Mrs Poppy!" sounding apoligetic with my arms crossed. "You're getting a week's detention during the holidays. "For the holidays you will be completing a presentation on a global and local issue. We all nodded.

After school finished I hurried to the school library, opened up my laptop and  started to do some research on plastic and how it is damaging our envoirment. First I went on the government website, checked if they had done something related to the issue of plastic. They had set a waste management system only in the cities and organized a few programs on these topics. I then looked up local environmental and plastic management organizations in Newport. There were a couple of good organizations but they were not exactly related to the topic I was concerned about. I did another web search, I finally found an organization that I liked called "Eco green", I sent them an inquiry, regarding how I have been interested in this topic and wanted to volunteer. I also tried calling them, but it seemed that they were busy. With my gathered information, I made a couple of informative and entertaining posters that have a natural aesthetic to bring the vibe, in bold lettering it said 'Save our planet!'. I swiftly went home, as the evening sun started to cast long shadows on the ground, I looked up at the slanting rays of the setting sun which gave a warm orange tingle to the sky. I put up the posters on the street poles and in my neighborhood's mailboxs. Mum was standing in the front of my house with a suspicious look on her face, "What have you been up to today, your grades have been slipping." she exclaimed, " Oh it's really nothing to worry about!" I nevously laughed awkwardly. It seemed that she didn't believe a word that I said by the looks of her facial expression," Ok fine! I have been dropping out on class and instead I have been doing a research project on plastic, also I decided to volunteer at a envoirmental organization, and before you can say anything I want to continue doing this there is so many plastics around the oceans and sea creatures are dying.'' I was waiting for a sign from Mum. There was a long pause, then she spoke the words I didn't expect, " Honey, that's amazing that you're taking part to help the environment and our planet, and lots of people need to start taking action. I'm so proud of you and I will be there for you when you need help." I was amazed at Mum, together we will save our plant as a team.
