Chapter 1: Break Out

I woke up to a dark room with only one spotlight, straight down in the center of the room. A circle of light was all that could be seen. The corners of the room were pitch black, as were the walls. A note was laid next to me. It had fine printed words reading-

1 hour- Break Out

Without thinking, I stand up and head to the nearest wall, looking for a button or a lever. I moved to each wall and when I moved to the last wall I find a round object sticking out of the wall, like a button. I press the button. Suddenly, there's a quick sound. As if a hatch had been opened. I head towards the sound that comes from the hatch. Water suddenly falls onto my head and I'm drenched in water.

"Oh no... I'm going to drown if I don't do something soon." I whisper to myself.

I grab the note from out of my pocket and I flip it over to find some more words on the back.

Press the wrong button- You might drown.

 But, what might happen before you drown? 

Check EVERYWHERE

"Check everywhere?" I ask myself. "I have checked everywhere. Except... The ceiling. But, how do I get up there?"

'Press the wrong button, You might drown. But what might happen before you drown?'

"Oh, I don't know..." I yell out loud. "I might float for all I know! Oh... You idiot, Liz. You just got to be patient."

My eyes slowly fall to the floor and I wait as the water slowly lifts me off the ground. As I slowly float to the top I finally reach the ceiling. I feel around the ceiling hoping to find another button or lever. 

"Nothing... Except for the spotlight." I say and I quickly swim towards the light. I see another note and a little lit flame. I read the note-

There seems to be a little flame. How about a challenge?

Without using the water, get rid of the flame. You might need to fight fire with fire... If it were possible.

"I can't use water... Liz... You are really dumb at some times. I guess a little sacrifice will help. I hate to burn my hand but, it won't leave much of a scar." I say then I put my palm over the flame.

I wince as the flame burns my skin. I remove my hand and immediately put it into the water once the flame was gone. Then, the water starts going down, as if it was being drained. Once the water is gone, more lights lit up the room. Then the door to the room opens and I quickly run out to be greeted by other people, congratulating me on breaking out.

Someone rushes up to me and hands me a towel,

"Congrats on escaping! I'm Lily." 

"Hey, I'm Liz. What exactly did I escape? How am I even here?" I ask.

"You shouldn't have to worry. Everything will be explained later. You should look at your time though. You're a minute behind the first guy who escaped. She says and points to a guy who was standing by himself looking at the TV screen.

"His name is Carter. You can go talk to him if you like!" She says.

"I think I will..." I mutter before turning back to Lily. "Thank you for the towel Lily! I guess I'll see you later?"
