Its a cold late night November afternoon, the sun hidden above the nimbus clouds, with the sky glowing in a yellowish orange hue. The streets are fluttering with vehicles, dashing along the cracked asphalt as it blurs across. The sidewalks paved and spotless, without a crack or sign of damage.
And there I was, thinking to myself,
"Why the fuck did I suggest the Daily Grind Cafe?!"
Time passed by, as my body grew cold, shivering in nervousness. 5 minutes turned into 10, then 15, then 30. I looked at the time.
"4:50 huh, I came here 4:20 for Christ sake."
As the time almost hit 5pm, I felt my body grow stone cold, unable to move or breathe, I felt sweat drip down my nose, as the clock struck 5pm.
*ding ding!*
The door creaks open, as the chime alerted the employees that a customer arrived at their vicinity.
The footsteps grew closer and closer, louder and louder, until he finally appeared.
He approached the table wearing an obnoxiously enormous winter jacket, that really caught my eye. But appears as if he can barely see in it.
"Oh crap, I'll help you out here" I said.
"Nono, it's fine, I can do it myself"
He was in a struggle, barely reaching the zipper.
"You sure you don't need help?"
"Yeah. I can do it"
Time flew by, as I sat there, watching him unzip his winter jacket, feeling as if I'm useless, that I can't help him do an easy task.
"..."
"need help?"
"yep."
I stood up the seat, and marched towards him. The zipper was caught on his shirt. Makes sense why he couldn't unzip it. I forcefully pulled on the zipper as it finally catches free of his shirt.
"There! Got it!"
We looked at each other in relief, and took our seats.
"so uh, how you been?" Struggling to start a conversation.
"I'm fine, was a struggle to get ready today. Especially since my huge winter jacket kept me at bay today, you?"
I can't tell him I came here 40 minutes early, it's better off to keep it simple.
My collar grew tight, feeling as if my buttoned down flannel has just been undone.
"I'm fine, I was a tad bit nervous today, I didn't want to make a fool out of myself.
why don't we get a drink?"
I jumped up from my seat, and slowly approached the cooler for a drink,
"Shit, I don't know what drink he likes." I whispered to myself.
