All the five year-olds in my country were tested; they had to go through a series of tests, so the government could find out where to place them. I had scored an average on all the tests, and I wasn't super pretty. I wasn't a model, just average. So, they cast me aside. Five year old me didn't think much of it. Up until today, I thought my world was perfect. I didn't understand why some people lived the same life better than me. I didn't really question it. All that I was told since the age of five was, I'm different. Different. What did that even mean? I didn't know. But there on the screen, lie Henry, a classmate of mine. Dead. On the screen for everyone to see. Why was he dead? Because he had realized that the world was not what we had thought it to be. A few minutes ago Henry explained that the government was distributing all the averages to the warzones. Passed over to die.

Now Henry was usually a fibber but, the fire in his eyes while he passionately spoke on that screen, told me, this was no lie. We all saw it, all the averages, saw that fire. Then the fire was extinguished. By a gun to the heart.

Silence.

One second, two, three.

Chaos.

The building shook. The police swarmed in from every entrance to my home. Slaughtering everyone in their paths. It was a bloodbath. I tried to scream, to run, something, but I couldn't. Petrified. I wondered if anyone was staring up at the building, wondering what was causing the screams of death. But as soon as I caught a glimpse of the outside world, I realized that they had set up a hologram of the building. A peaceful one at that. I knew no one was outside worrying about us, they can't see or hear us. We're trapped.

Tears begin to fall on my face. Either that or, I didn't feel them when they first started to fall. I'm helpless. All my friends are either dead, or they are dying. It's either or.

Gunshots ring throughout the hallways and rooms. The room I stand in is painted red. Red is on the walls. The floor. The ceiling. The chairs.

The vision ticks something in me. All of a sudden my feet move quickly to the nearest officer. I don't remember how I was able to take the gun from him, but once I have it I shoot him in the leg so he can't get to me. I run. I ran faster than I ever could. An officer noticed me trying to escape and he chased after me. He gets the attention of the others and they are all on my back.

Once I taste the fresh air of the outside world, I run into an alley. I don't know where the determination for living came from, but I know I don't want to die. I don't know what I'm doing, I'm just running. It is all I can do.

The loud speakers that were put up to report announcements go off.

"Attention. Attention. A fugitive has escaped the custody of the police. It is considered very dangerous and it has a weapon. The fugitive goes by the name Angel Finland. Be careful around this average, and report to the police if you see it in your area."

Apparently I'm an "it" now. The world is corrupted. Possessed. I hate it, what happened to my timeless world. Why have I been pushed out of it?

The speaker comes back on.

"Angel, you can't run"

Maybe I can't, but I'll try.
