I sat crisscrossed on the floor, hoping to see something, anything about Hopper. I didn't believe he was dead. Joyce Byers knocked on the door of my new room.
She opened it, looking hopeful. "Anything?"
"No, my powers still aren't here, "I said disappointed. Joyce's face fell.
"It's okay, we'll find him. I know he isn't dead. You know that feeling?"
I didn't in fact, but I knew what she was talking about.
The phone rang and my friend, Will Byers called out for me.
"El! It's Mike!"
My heart raced as I came out of my room and to the ringing telephone.
Although it had been a week since I'd left Hawkins with the Byers, I still missed Mike a ton.
"El? Hi. I have some news."
Mike sounded nervous about something and my head started pounding. Had they found Hopper?
"Hi. What is it?"
"We found something. We went back to the lab to see if we could find something about Hopper. It turns out when you destroy the machine that opens the gate, it opens a time rift. Like Back to the Future. A time machine."
