“I can’t do it, please help me.” Hyejoo cried in pain turning to her best friend like she always did. “Come on Ms Jeon, the head is almost through.” Her midwife reassured her only to receive another whimper. She continued to push her child with all her might, her nails digging into her best friends muscular arm. Her breaths were unsteady, she had been doing this for hours and was getting nowhere. Jimin, her best friend continued to motivate her like he had done through the entire journey.

The child’s father; he had thrown her out just like her parents had done. He was sat home peacefully in bed, one of his girlfriend’s beside him while Hyejoo continued to get through her labour. Barely 18 she tried to get through this without the help of her mother. Her mother wanted to help but Hyejoo’s father was stubborn, so she was unable to. So she prayed all night hoping to receive some good news.

Jimin used a cloth to wipe the sweat on Hyejoo’s head; hair strands clung to her face as the tears continued to fall. Her body had lost its colour she was exhausted and there was a long way to go. Her lips quivered and her breaths began to slow down. “Come on Ms Jeon you cant stop now.” Her midwife tried telling her as it was dangerous for her and the baby. Hyejoo only nodded attempting to push again, her body lifting up clinging onto Jimin. Her nails had dug through his shirt and onto his skin, red marks evident but he didn’t care. He just wanted to be there for her.

With one last push she fell back with a groan, her doctor congratulating on the birth of her son, everything sounded hazy until she heard a small cry. She sat up with the help of Jimin to see her son who was being wiped with a towel, small cries leaving his mouth. The midwife handed her the child, and Hyejoo couldn’t control her tears he was beautiful. “He’s mine he’s finally here, look Chim.” She showed her baby to her best friend. Chim nodded rubbing her shoulders.

The baby in her arms stopped crying as she rocked him bringing him closer to her body. He looked at her with large doe eyes, chubby cheeks lifting as he gave off a small smile. “hi bun you're finally here.” She greeted her son kissing his head. The child in her arms moved his arms slightly yawning, the cutest yawn she had ever seen and at this moment she knew it was all worth it.

“I will never let you feel the loss of a father.” She whispered to her new-born who had fallen asleep in the comfort of his mothers arms.
