A lot of you all might be wondering why I'm online when I said otherwise but things...well things haven't gotten better in my country.
From the economic drop as a result to the Covid-19 pandemic, to a youth protest on ending police brutality, to arson, to death of innocent blooded civilians —all which has put the citizens here on a spot of fear. No longer can we walk out the streets on account to get something as little as bread because, who knows where a stray bullet can come from.
In Nigeria here, we have SARS, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad which was created in 1984 to respond to an epidemic of violent crime including robberies, carjackings and kidnappings. While it was credited with having reduced brazen lawlessness in its initial years, the police unit has later been accused of evolving into the same problem it had been designed to stop: a criminal enterprise that acts with impunity.
They don't even wear uniforms so that makes it hard to know who is a SARS official. They can just come out of nowhere, stop you by asking questions, nonetheless, they take you to their station where they can demand for payment of #500,000 or more just for release.
The demonstration of how ignorant the 'president' is towards the once-was peaceful protest took a deadly turn this week, as soldiers fired on crowds of protesters, inflaming Nigerians who were already concerned about police use of violence against the demonstrators.
Corruption, embezzlement, abject poverty, all which the citizens here are facing. #ENDSARS was once peaceful, no-one was dying, we took to the streets our voices, banners, and microphones. Now, they take with them, guns, cars, badges just to shut is down.
I had to come back home because the government declared for all schools to shut down and no movement on the streets of Lagos. I can't deny how scared I am and how anxious I am to get out of this country before my name or that of my family enters the booked name of those that died as a result of the #ENDSARS protest.
Ignorant and stupid President Muhammadu Buhari has received curses from the nation as a result of the speech he gave where he offered a sincere apology to the 'POLICE OFFICERS THAT DIED IN THE LOE OF DUTY' and I'm damn well sure all curses will reach his life and his families.
Just do what we want—End SARS. It's not that hard.
—God help Nigeria.
