chapter 1

"Akari, one day you will be the guardian of our nation and though you will have great power you must learn that you will have to make hard decisions. You hold the power passed down by generations of our ancestors." my father says a stern but warm glow as we sat looking out at our kingdom from the palace. Though we are not the biggest kingdom, joy and liveliness filled the air as the town folk went to sing campfire songs at the town hall as the sun set. I look over at the nation's most proud posesion the golden orchid. Apparently when our tribe was first founded they found the flower glowing in the darkest part of a cave, the last thing you could expect from a cave. I waved my hand letting my brown hair slip off my shoulder as I reached slightly for the flower. I think of some of the happiest moments of my life and focus on the fragile plant as it reaches out in greeting to meet my hand.

"Father, why can I only control them? I don't understand it." i say letting my hand slip away to look back up at my father

"My little sunkiss you are a strong and powerful young lady and know that you are officially thirteen i know you can handle my next words." he says with a sigh

"Is something wrong? Did I not do the training drills right?" i saw thinking back to my fighting practice this morning

"No dear your power is something incredible something ancient and powerful you must realize people are corrupt with greed outside of our walls, they will do unspeakable things to get wealth or power, and that is exactly what you are." he says hugging me tightly as the sun rests its glow in the town for the last time before morning leaving a honey glow in its place.

"I don't understand. I thought that we accept all people of all races. Why would they want me?" i say looking into my father's eyes

"You'll understand soon enough but for the meantime let's head to bed coronation day is tomorrow you will officially be the next heir to our nation." he says with a smile and a nudge

"Ok goodnight father." I say with a smile as I walk to my room. After a few minutes I feel my eyelids start to get heavy sleep making its way into my mind only to be interrupted with the sound of an explosion and screams. I jump out of my bed startled by the sudden screaming. What is going on?

"Young mistress we must leave now the wall has been breached!" sui my maid rushes in grabbing my wrist.

"Wait what! By who tribe I thought we were neutral in the war!?" i saw as a grab my knife and the closest pair of sparing armor i could grab

"The humans. now please mistress we must hurry there's word there here for you!" she says dragging my through the halls

"Wait, why?!" I say remember what my father had just told me is this what he ment? As were rushing by i hear tow guards talking as they run past us

"They have hostages, they have his highness, we must hurry."

"Dad?!" i say stopping in my tracks

"Akari we must hurry!" sui says pulling my hand

"I am the next leader. I will stand by and hide while my people are being raided!!" I yell , ripping my hand from sui's and sprint following the guards. When I make it out of the palace I see fire spreading throughout the kingdom and panic. Tears ran down my cheeks as the once peaceful town was in a massacre.

"Akari what are you doing!" i hear my dads voice behind me

"Dad! Why are you eating here!?" i yell as tears stream down my face

"My little sunkiss you must run and hide and don't look back. I will find you to stay true to yourself and our nation's beliefs." he says, his hand cupping my cheek with a smile as a contradicting tear runs down his cheek.

"But dad, I can help, I'll fight!!"

"You have your mother's spirit never lose that sunkiss now go." he says running off to help in the fight

"There she is!" I hear a loud voice from the side of me running towards me. I have to run! I sprint into the woods as fast as I can , tears running down my face. I hear leaves and sticks cracking behind me. I make a quick turn and hide in the pocket of a dead tree as about four invaders rush past. I ask the tree I'm taking comfort in to swallow me whole, burying myself in my sorrows crying as a small layer of bark incases me in the hollow tree.

This is my first edited story i hope you like it im going to try and boat every saturday but if a cant dont come for me cus im lazy enjoy :D
