Player by Choice, Manager by Default

Part 7

             -oh well sure I am more than happy to talk about volleyball you could even teach me some tricks you learn from playing for such a well-know school.

             -Me teaching you!!, he says embarrass but his facial expression lets you know that he loves being praise, anyways see ya I got to go.

The rest of the day goes smoothly, and you are still not over the fact that school is so nice without all those squealing girls. Since the day is over you head to the sports department where you are going to see the girls volleyball team practice. You enter the gym and all the girls look at you for two seconds since they all have me you before, the only one who wonders what you are doing there is Coach Ozaki. Therefore, he walks up to you and ask you if you are lost since he knows you are not part of the girls' team.

            -Actually Coach, Mikoto and Hirano say, she would like to apply for the team, but she can't play because of a knee injury.

            -Unfortunately, kiddo if you are not an active member of the club we cannot take you in and thus it doesn't count as extracurricular.

           -So I can come back when my knee is heal then, you asks.

           -Of course, but what position do you play?

           -I'm a libero, you say proudly.

After the conversation with coach Ozaki is over you return the dormitory.

The next day you go to your homeroom teacher and ask him what you should do regarding your extracurricular because for this term you will not be able to play volleyball. You need the extra points so it will look good when you apply for med school since you want to become a physiotherapist. He says that since you know a lot about volleyball you could apply for the manager on the boy's team. Which is an amazing idea because you can learn from those boys, so you fill out the form and ask Haruichi Sensei to whom you have to give it to. He answers by saying the coach and his office is at the end of the hall in the sport department building. You thank Haruichi Sensei and go to the building and walk all the way to the end of that hall and see a brown door where it is written "Boys Volleyball Club". You think it must be it, so you turn the doorknob and open the door to a room full of half naked guys, they just stop and stare at you. Within milliseconds you turn the same colour of a tomato and screams:

              -GOOOOOOMEEEEEENNASAAAAIII!!!, as you turn around and close the door.

You come face to face with another door at the end of the hall and this one has a sign that clearly say COACH on it so you go into it and open the door just to see Coach Washijō sitting there as if he was waiting for you. You present yourself and explain to him that you want to become the team's manager and explain the fact that you already know everything about volleyball since you are a player yourself but can't (play) at the moment because of your knee. He agrees for you to become the manager so both of you then head to the gymnasium together.

You and Coach Washijō enter the gym, to whole team then stop what they are doing and walk towards you two, primarily to greet the coach and they stop once they see you are there too. Ushijima then asks why the girl who walk in on them changing is in the gym with the coach. Washijō explains that, as of today you are their manager. Goshiki and Semi walk up to you and put one hand each on your shoulder and congratulate you.

              -How come you two already know her?, says a small dude with light brown hair and tape around his fingers.

             -She is in my class, the bangs dude answers. He then turns around and look at you and says I'm Goshiki Tsutomu, sorry I forgot to introduce myself earlier.

           -Well I meant her while I was coming back from my grand parents house this weekend, reply Semi.

           -So who are you exactly, demands the light brown hair after Goshiki and Semi had answer him.

         -Sorry I forgot to present myself, you bow down, hi (addressing to the whole team) you can call me Y/N-chan your new manager, I am a transfer student from Inarizaki, don't worry about me I know more than enough about volleyball.

          -Hi Y/N-chan and welcome to Shiratorizawa volleyball club, they exclaim in unison.

          -Hi may I ask all of you your position and what you would like to improve and I'll start with the official line-up.

Ushijima goes first then Reon, Semi, Tendou, Shirabu (which is the short dude from earlier), Goshiki, Yamagata and Kawanashi, then the practice resumes as usual. The rest of the week goes by fast; all the practices are going great as well, even though you take a load of notes to help them improve and achieve their personal goals. Being a manager is just as much amusing than playing volleyball,you think, moreover it helps you get into a physiotherapist mind and apply what you learn so far (on your own and with Dr Umemia). You meet with Semi on Wednesday for manga/anime related conversation at one of the coffee shop in town (which is Semi's favorite), because on Wednesday you only have half a day and morning practice so the rest of the afternoon is free.
