It was just one of those days. In every way, a completely normal, average day. The sky was neither clear nor overcast. The summer heat was pretty bearable for once, but fans still had to blow through the house. The news said something about a crime a few towns over, but it was nothing overly serious - that happened sometimes.

As it was summer, you were home for the day. No one else was there - everyone else had errands or plans. You, however, had planned on spending the day on your computer or in a book. That was the best way to spend a day such as this, after all. This meant that the house was silent. You could hear water dripping in a sink somewhere, but were too lazy to go and fix it. Maybe next time you got up to go to the bathroom. If you remembered.

It was so quiet that you nearly jumped out of your skin when you heard a knock at the front door across the house.

No one was supposed to come over today. Everyone else that lived there had a key. Who was knocking? Did someone lose a key? Were someone's hands full and they needed help with the door? Perhaps it was a door to door salesman - though that practice had practically died out at this point, so that was unlikely.

Whoever it was, you got up and approached the door. Hopefully they wouldn't care about your choice of clothing - you were wearing your comfy clothes that you would never wear in public due to how worn and hole-filled they were; if you weren't going into town, why bother dressing nicely? Your feet glided softly across the floor as you moved across the room. With a soft click, you turned the knob and opened the door.

The person you found on the other side was someone you had never expected to see - not outside of your dreams, anyway. They were exactly as you had imagined they'd be. The way they held themself, the soft smile they gave you, the very presence they let off. It was them. But-

"You... How can-" you breathed, suddenly embarrassed by your lax choice of clothing.

But they held a finger up to their lips with a quiet shhhh. "I've been looking for you." They lowered the hand, instead using it to tilt your chin toward them. "You have no idea what I've been through to find this place."

"But- Why are you here?" You were getting more flustered by the moment. Why had this person come to this place. How did they know you. Why you?

"To take you, of course."

Wait, what? Your face was so red you were surprised you weren't melting on the spot. They showed up out of the blue and they wanted to-

"I'm taking you with me," they clarified. Whether they realized what they had originally sounded like or not, you didn't know.

You hesitated for a moment. You wanted to agree. To go with them. You had dreamed about this moment for so long. But now that the opportunity was practically screaming at you to take it, you hesitated. "But what about my-"

"That doesn't matter now!" Their face was suddenly much, much closer to yours, and you fought to not step away. You could feel their breath of your cheeks. "I need you to come with me..." As suddenly as they had approached, they pulled away. "We need to hurry."

"Why? Why me?" You weren't sure you could move your legs right now if you wanted to.

"Because," their smile tilted upward. "You're the one I see in my dreams."

You couldn't stop yourself from bursting out the words. "I see you in my dreams, too!" But you instantly wished you hadn't. That sounded cringey. But hadn't what they said sounded cringey, too? You quickly turned the subject in a different direction. "Do I at least have enough time to change clothes?"

"No, we have to go, now." Without another word, they grabbed your hand, pulling you out the door.

With a short shout, you grabbed the doorknob, just managing to pull the door closed as you left the house. As you were dragged to their ride, you wondered briefly if and when you would come back. And, if you didn't come back, would you be okay with that, as long as you were with this person?
