There are some things people are never supposed to see.
Some doors are never supposed to be opened.
Some questions are never supposed to be asked.
And sometimes, the person standing on the other side of the mirror isn't really you.
It was nearly midnight when the girl woke up.
She sat upright in bed, breathing heavily.
For several seconds, she didn't know where she was.
Her bedroom was dark except for the pale moonlight slipping through the curtains. A digital clock beside her bed read 11:59 PM.
She rubbed her eyes.
Then she heard it.
Tap.
She froze.
Another sound.
Tap.
This time, it came from her bedroom mirror.
She slowly turned toward it.
Nothing.
Just her reflection.
The girl swallowed.
"Hello?"
Her reflection didn't move.
She stared.
Then her reflection smiled.
The girl didn't.
Her heart stopped.
The reflection slowly raised one finger and pressed it against the inside of the glass.
Tap.
The girl scrambled backward.
"What are you?"
The reflection's smile disappeared.
Its eyes became darker.
And then it whispered:
"I'm you."
The girl screamed.
The bedroom door slammed open.
Her mother rushed inside.
"What happened?"
The girl pointed toward the mirror.
But there was nothing there.
Only her reflection.
Her mother looked concerned.
"Sweetheart, it's okay."
The girl couldn't speak.
She knew what she had seen.
She knew that reflection wasn't her.
And somewhere deep inside the walls of the house, something whispered her name.
