Luke --
"Who's that?" I nudged Sheldon and she followed my gaze to the girl Kida was talking to by the stage. I was sure she was apart of the crew she hired but she was....cute. Blonde and short and smiley and cute.
"Uh I think her name is Joey?" Sheldon frowned slightly like she was sure that was wrong. "She's the only other girl on Kida's team so she's trying to get me and Lennon to hang out with her."
I was going to ask her if she had talked to her before when he phone rang. I saw a photo of Harry and Leo on her screen. She already missed them and we'd only been here for one day. She walked off and answered her phone like we weren't having a whole conversation. I didn't mind though. She missed her kid.
We were on our European leg and then we were taking a break to make sure everything in the world was still settled enough to continue. I was honestly surprised we were doing this leg as it was. We were starting in Italy. We were in Venice tonight and then Florence tomorrow. Everyone was excited, the fans, the guys, the crew, Kida. I had never seen Kida so bouncy and thrilled.
Sheldon was gonna drag me off to do my hair when she was done on the phone. I went over to where my mic was supposed to be set up and I looked at all the seats. This was a big venue compared to our last tour. Lennon was genuinely opening for us this time along with various tiny bands we found in most every city.
"Uh watch out." Cute, Smiley, blonde girl came up behind me. I turned and stepped out of the way and watched her set up my mic.
"Hello...." I said clearing my throat. She glanced at me before adjusting the height on the mic. She then dug into her pocket and put some picks extra picks out for me. People didn't usually just....glance....at me. "I'm Luke."
"Josie."
Not Joey.
"You're on Kida's crew?" I knew she was. Why else would she be setting up my mic?
"Yup. Sound mixing usually." She sighed like she didn't want to be standing there with me. "You?"
She crouched down to the amp close to where Calum usually gets set up. "Oh I'm not....I'm in the band." I gestured vaguely at the stage and she just stared at me.
"Okay well I'm gonna go over there and pretend I didn't just...." she hid her face from me as she walked off quickly. I frowned and watched her go until Sheldon grabbed my arm out of nowhere.
"Come on, Sparkles, I gotta do your hair." She dragged me off stage and into the dressing room we were set up in. Everyone was in there pretty much. Michael and Ashton were dancing around, like you do, being goofy. Calum and Lennon were talking very seriously about something. Probably D&D.
"It's Josie." I sat down on Sheldon's chair and she raised her eyebrows at me.
"What's Josie?"
"The girl." I pursed my lips and Sheldon smirked now. "Shut up."
"I didn't say a word." She laughed and started playing in my hair. She styled my hair all curly and pushed back from my face. She tried to get me to cut it, but I liked it long for now. She of course told me that all the fans liked it shorter. She was keeping up with what our fans liked us to look like. I only cared a little bit about that.
Calum was next to get his hair done and she reamed him for what he'd been doing to his hair. "Bleach? Blue box dye? Bleach again?" She gasped and ran her fingers through his hair. He'd let it grow back out again through quarantine because Kida liked the curls.
"I went to a salon to get it done!" He insisted which made her scoff at him.
"I can tell when it's from a box, Hood." She scolded. "All the same I'm glad you've decided to let it grow. I can cut off your crazy frosted tips."
"Kida will probably rip your hair out." I warned, as the same conclusion came to Calum.
"She hates it short." He said, eyes wide. I had never seen Kida really angry. Calum had. She lived with him. They had to fight sometimes.
"Well the bleached is all dead. It'll be shorter but it'll grow quicker and you'll have better curls." She promised as she picked up her scissors. She started snipping and I was watching her, wondering how she knew where to start. Cutting hair was above my pay grade. Kida came in when she was about done.
"What are you doing no!" She whined and pouted as Sheldon brushed the stray hair off his shoulders. She styled it quickly before Kida got ahold of him. "It's all short now."
"It'll grow." Sheldon rolled her eyes. "Lennon, you're up."
The first show was pretty decent. The crowd didn't fill every seat but it was still fun. It felt really good to be on stage again. Afterwards, Calum was trying to convince Kida to go out with us, for our regular first show after party, but she had to stay and help take everything down. I had a feeling Calum was going to have less fun with her on this tour since she had to work longer hours than we did.
I saw Josie taking down her set up as well and wondered if she could come along with us. I doubted it. I didn't ask, but I wanted to. Maybe if I could get her to go out with me, Kida would quit trying to set me up with any girl she thought would be interested.
"Let's go, Sparkles!" Sheldon said loudly, "The cars not stoppin'."
I tore my attention from Josie and hurried after my friends to the car. I should have asked her to come with us. Maybe Kida would have let her off if I acted like I was interested in her. That was kinda douchey though wasn't it?
Can you please let this random girl from your crew have the first night of the tour off early so she can come drinking with us? Very uncool.
Still though....could have been fun....
