Chapter 1
Patter, like taping of thousand hands hitting the glass, over and over again, fixated me to the spot.
My eyes watched every drop. Then slowly focus on a place between reality and imagination. Maybe this place was the world unseen by the naked human eye or at least it should be.
Winged human like creatures moved from one drop to another. They weren't anything like the fairies people described in stories. Their wings were shaped like butterflies wings, but they looked as if they were made from the rain drops that surround them, and the hair on their heads had streaming curls and waves as if they had currents of their own. Their skin was blue, but you could see right though their bodies. They wore clothes which was almost mist like. I wish I could join those blue eye creatures on the other side of the glass, but I was stuck here in school.
"Brooks. Brooks! Hey, Brooks are you listening?" Hailey said.
I looked away from the window "Hmm, what did you say?" I asked
Sighing she shook her head. "I'd asked if you where going to the spring dance or not."
"No, I don't plan on it. Why should I?"
"Yes! You should go! That way I can convince Cathy to come along too."
I looked at her like she was insane. If Cathy where to come along it would be a living nightmare. Everybody hates Cathy to the core. All except for us.
"I don't think that would be a good thing Hails'."
"And why not?" She asked me
"Because Cat wouldn't want to be there by a lot of people."
"Lots of people like Cat?" she asked. Cat was Cathy's nick name.
"You know she doesn't like going to those sort of things. Are you sure about having her go, Hails'?" I asked her.
"Of course I'm sure. Cat is the most popular girl in the school."
"I think some girls are willing to argue about that." I said half jokingly. I couldn't decided if I felt sorry for Hails for not being observant or proud of her for ignoring the mean things people say about one another.
I can't say why people hate Cat so much. In fact it puzzles me. Cat use to be my best friend, but then Hails came along and understood me better. After that Cat started to fade away. I don't know how she started to fade away, but just knew that she did. I wish things would come back to the way they were between us.
Cat came in slowly. The way she walk you could tell she was tired. She probably stayed up all night studying. "Hey cat! Are you going to the dance." Cat's response was to turn towards me and roll her eyes. "No, I'm not, Hails." Cat replied to her.
Hails started to pout. "Why don't you guys want to go? It's gonna be fun." She whined
"Ya, it should be fun, but it won't be for any of us." Cat retorted
"What do you mean it won't be fun for any of us?" She asked
Cat and Hails started going back and forth on how or how it wasn't going to be fun. Shaking my head I left them to figure it out. I learned from the past that being in their fight will just make things worst for you.
Sighing I refocus my attention to the seen outside. The rain fairies were beginning to scatter apart in a frenzy. In their panic the rain started to pour.
~boom~
Lighting crack across the sky. Hails and Cat both jumped. Again thunder roar and lighting crack.
~Crack~ ~Boom~
New types of fairies started chase the rain fairies. Their hair staticky, and their skin ashy brown. Their clothes slim and bright. The wings on their backs were big, loud, and looked to be made out of electricity. Sparks would course around their bodies.
~crack, bang~
The storm was in a furor. A flash of lighting skimmed across the sky. My eyes fallowed it along it's course. The lighting fairies stayed in their swarm and lead a path downward. Again the swarm appeared and with them a figure that appeared right outside the window. He stared at me and hope flashed in his eyes, in the same way the lighting flashed around him. His mouth moved as if trying to say something. In The next flash of lighting he was gone. After that the stormed calmed and moved away. The only thing I thought was odd about the boy was how he was completely dry, but then again he wasn't the first figure I ever saw to have unnatural qualities.
Cat glanced outside trying to ignore Hails. "It kinda sucks that we're stuck inside on a nice day like this, huh." she said
Hails looked out as well. "yah, it has been sunshine and blue skies all day"
After that, the day continued on like it always does. Hailey bugged Cathy non stop all day. Cathy punches Hailey and said to 'cut it out'. During lunch a guy comes up to our table. Hailey takes the spot light. The guy wasn't too happy about that. He looks at Cathy with fear, then smiles at me. When Hailey kept trying to flirt with him, he walked away.
"Wasn't he cute, trying to flirt with me." Hailey gushed
"I wouldn't say that was cute. It didn't even look like he was trying." I said
"Brooks of course he was."
"Ok Hailey first off her name is Brook not Brooks; and second he was not coming all the way over here to talk to you." Cathy snapped
"Oh like he was coming to talk to you Cathy." Hailey snapped back.
Cathy looked as if she wanted to break Hailey neck in two after that.
"No he came to talk to Brook."
Hailey snorted "ya right, he came to talk to me because i'm the most beautiful at of all of us."
That stung me a little but I brushed it off. I know i'm not pretty in the slightest, and no guy would want to date a girl like me. All I can do is to hope a guy would look past all that someday.
Tent ion started to build. Almost like a cartoon you could see sparks fly between them.
~beep~
Saved it was the bell for class. "Bye guys I have to get to class." I said in a rush. Luckily I had a different fourth period then them. I don't want to be there when their fight hits the climax.
Running down the hall my shoes squeaked on the wet surface of the floor. That sound is one of my favorites.
Getting settled in my seat for Heath class, I thought about the storm boy. "He like lighting" I murmured to myself.
"Who's like lighting?" Asked Neva,
"Did you already met the new guy track star? How he wasn't suppose to come until tomorrow!" Neva said in a rush
"We're getting a new student?" I asked.
It was my first time hearing this.
"You don't know!" She said like it was a surprise. A quick fact about Neva. She's the head of the news paper club and lives for news. She became head after her stunning article on first snow. She never tell a untrue event. But at the moment she's talking a mile a minute.
The rest of class Neva went on about events that happen some where in school
