The sandy dunes seemed peaceful as the royal dragons entered the Fire Colony. The wind was soft enough to not disturb the sand below but provided enough air to provide relief to the visiting dragons. The royal cabinet had come to see if any of the new hatchlings were the heir to the throne, as the Queen had died recently.
The Queen of dragons had been from the Watertribe, and she had been graceful and fair, leading the different kingdoms into the longest lasting peace agreement the lands had seen. She had been kind and gentle, and thanks to her and her predecessor the land had not seen any wars in almost 6,000 years.
Sadly her reign had come to the end almost a month before, and her trusted advisors and friends had to seek out the future King. They had been to all the kingdoms except for the kingdom of fire, the Fire Colony. The future King had to be here, or they would have to begin their search all over again.
Towards the center of the Fire Colony was a volcano where the eggs and hatchlings resided, which is where the royal cabinet was heading. The newest members of the Colony were play fighting, trying to prove who was the strongest. There were six of them in total, Ember, Kai, Loki, Cálida, Hesita and Anshul. Three boys and three girls, all descendants of the former Queen.
The three boys were to present themselves to the royal cabinet once they arrived, and their caretaker, Tana, had tried her best to keep them from fighting each other, but it was no luck.
Tana had a feeling the new king would be Kai, he was the leader of the group, always leading them into some kind of trouble. Loki also had potential, he was less assertive than his brother, but he was quick and smart. Loki had been the mastermind behind most of the more complex plans for trouble. Tana knew in her heart it would be Kai or Loki who would ascend to the throne.
Anshul had been born last, and he was quiet and reserved. He followed all the rules and hesitated to follow his siblings when they wandered off. He was not a leader in any way, but rather a doormat. He did not have the spirit of a fire dragon.
The royal cabinet finally arrived at the volcano, and the only one who looked comfortable was Reese, the fire representative on the cabinet. There were seven members total, one for each of the different kingdoms.
Reese was the first to speak, "It feels good to be home! Are these the chosen ones?" He asked, prodding a claw between Loki and Kai. Anshul sat further back, calmly waiting for instructions. "These two are pure trouble it seems like" The older dragon laughed as the two hatchlings tried to climb his leg and puffed out pathetic snorts of fire.
The light dragon of the group made her way forward, surpassing the two playful hatchlings and heading straight to Anshul. "He has been found." Her voice was much softer than the harsh tones Tana was used to, and much quieter.
"Meira, are you sure? He's small and not of leader material, surely one of these two are the future King?" Reese asked, Loki hanging off his giant claw.
Meira sat down next to Anshul and glared at her companion, "You forget, we light dragons see the auras of things. He has many, just like Athena did. This is the one we have been looking for. This is our King."
