Jesus Christ - better known in his time as Jesus the son of Mary (ישוע בר מרים - yešuaˁ bər maryam) - is probably by far the most influential figure throughout all of history. In AD 30 he would lead a Messianic movement which would change the entire world.

This man named Yeshua was a mysterious figure. He was widely known before the spread of christianity as a wandering rabbi or "teacher", as well as a healer, miracle worker, and a sage, and who had a following of more than 15,000 people. However, only his twelve handpicked and chosen disciples remained with him, and after his death and resurrection these would come to be known as the Twelve Apostles (תריעשר שלחין - treˁašar‎ šəleḥin). Jesus was seen to have been raised from the dead, and tradition states that the Twelve were anointed on the day of Pentecost (חגא דשבועיא - ḥaggaˀ d-šəbuˁayaˀ) and were said to have been sent by God, so that they may spread Yeshua's message to the ends of the Earth.

After being conquered a number of times by the Assyrians in 722 BCE and the Babylonians in 587 BCE, the Prophets of Israel gained Revelations of a Messiah, one who would come and restore Israel. There are many prophesies regarding this promised saviour, it being said that God would designate a descendant of David, an 'anointed one' (Hebrew: מָשִׁ֫יחַ - māšîaḥ) with it's equivalent in Galilean Aramaic being 'Meshikha' (מְשִׁיחַה - məšîḥa).

Needless to say, many of his early followers saw him as the prophesied Messiah and formed a Jewish religious movement which would change the course of history...
