The Hidden Child

"A New Beginning"

"Liyah, a word please." my father called from his study, interrupting my thoughts.

I groan, getting up from the couch and head down the hall to his study already knowing the lecture I was about to receive.

My father, Severus Snape, was a brilliant man who's appearance was so dark, he could blend in with the night. Which is also where I got my dark features from, except for my eyes, I had my mothers eyes. My father is the one and only reason I am alive and breathing to this day. My whole life it has just been the two of us. I've had to stay hidden my whole life, not only for my safety, but also because up until today no one could know who my mother was. My mother was none other than Lily Potter herself. My father and Lily had a secret entanglement while she was with James Potter. This secret relationship resulted in her getting pregnant with me. Out of panic, she ran away with my father until I was born because she didn't want anyone to know about her cheating and have it ruin her reputation. After I was born however, she abandoned my father and I and ran back to James and they married later having another child who of course got all of her love and praise. Until one day, she and James were killed by the Dark Lord leaving their son to be the only one who survived and then being named "The Boy who Lived". This is why it was unsafe for anyone to know I existed all these years. My father feared that if the Dark Lord discovered Lily had another child, he'd come after me and kill me as well.

"Yes father?" I say as I stand in the doorway of his study. "Please, sit. We need to discuss the rules if we are to go through with all of this." He says, raising an eyebrow at me and motioning his head to the seat infront of his desk.

Today is the day I am finally leaving the shadows and letting the world know I exist by attending Hogwarts for my 6th year. A new beginning if you will. I know everyone will whisper and stare about the girl who lived in the shadows for 16 years, but I don't care. I just want to be known. Thanks to my dad, who's been giving me at home Hogwarts classes since i was 11, it was going to be easy since I won't be behind.

"Father we've been over the rules thirty bloody times. Why must we go over them again." I complained. He looks up at me from the papers he was going over unamused by the atittude I was giving him and says, "I don't care Liyah, this is important and if we want this to work out you must be smart and do as I say. You think I can't see the mischief and excitement in your eyes?" Although I was annoyed, my father was right. I was excited and I did have a little mischief on my mind, but after all, I am my father's daughter.

"Father, I promise you I will be smart and do as you ask of me. You have absolutely nothing to worry about." I say with a smile, but by the blank expression I was receiving it was obvious he didn't believe me.

My father sighs while rising from the chair behind his desk and walks around it so he is standing
infront of me and takes my hands in his. "I know i've been hard on you lately Liyah, but it's just because I want you to be safe and finally live the life you couldn't all these years, but to do so means challenges along the way." Him mentioning me never being able have to lived a normal life in the past causes me to put my head down in hopes of him not seeing my eyes have begun to water. He places a finger under my chin to lift my head and meet my eyes with his again. When he see's my glossy eyes he gives me a small smile and pulls me into a comforting hug which only makes me cry more. "I'm sorry you've been forced to live in secret your whole life, but all of that changes now," he says in a calm and slow voice "Now enough crying darling, go on and gather your things so we can get going. We wouldn't want to miss that train now would we?" This causes me to smile and the excitement rush back into my mind. I hug him a little tighter before letting go and rushing upstairs to my bedroom to grab all of my things.

As I walk back downstairs to join my father, all I can think about is how grateful I am to have had him all my life. He's all i've ever had and he's all i'll ever need. Of course I want to obey his rules, but I have a few things planned for my time at Hogwarts. Let's just say the girl from the shadows is gone. I will be remembered.
