Walking down a road near my grandmother's home, I slow my pace wondering why the road is so barren, it is usually busy with cars. The sky was black as pitch but I could still see the tall trees and the browning grass, even the fallen leaves were visible.
Feeling compelled to to do so I look into the woods to my right. I see five children dancing together in a circle holding hands and singing.
"Ring around the rosie, pockets full of posies. Ashes ashes we all fall down!" They yelled happily, before crumpling in on themselves, they lay there, flowers falling from their pockets, bodies limp... bodies now lifeless.
I continue on my walk as if what I'd seen never happened, heart calm, mind calm, thoughts calm. The urge to stop again pulls at my resolve so I stop and look to my right again, this time it is not children playing... It is people hanging from the trees by braided ropes. Their bodies dangle and appear lifeless until the girl nearest to the front opens her eyes, they appear faded and rotted.
"Are you ready yet?" She asked innocently in a sweet voice.
"Are you ready yet?" the rest of the bodies began to chant.
Legs moving of their own accord I move on still indifferent to what had occured. Eyes straight ahead pase confident. In my peripheral vision shadows of people ran beside me in the trees, still chanting.
I do not turn my head once I stop at the intersection, I look dead ahead at the members of my family standing before me. My mom and my sister, my Nanie and Papa stand apart, and my step-dad all stand before me smiling.
Now thinking back I remember two who drew my eyes more than the others, my step-dad Brandon and my Papa both held a weird glow to them.
"Are you ready yet?" My mother asked.
"Are you ready yet?" My sister and Nanie asked.
"Are you ready yet?" My Papa and Step-dad asked.
A large white lit door appeared behind them. They all turned and walked into the light leaving me behind in the dark street with all the death and scary things. My thoughts stayed numb to the fearful sights.
• Looking back on this it's kinda weird and sad. But at the time it was hecka scary for me. •
