Yokai Are Real

Nate blushed at the though of Katie admiring him. He stopped daydreaming and chased the insect.

Nate: Get back here, firefly!

Then it flew through a bush of thorns and brambles. Nate reluctantly got on his hands and knees and crawled in after it. His clothes got small tears from the thorns and his face a few scratches.

Nate: Ow!

Then he entered a clearing with an enormous tree in the centre. Against the tree was a capsule machine.

Nate: Whoa! A capsule machine!

Nate fished for money in his pocket and pulled out a coin.

Nate: I might as well put this money from Grandma to good use.

Nate inserted the coin and turned the knob. A single stone-looking capsule rolled out.

Nate: I hope I get something good!

Nate tried to pull the capsule open, but it was too tight. He tried harder.

Nate: Its...so...tricky...

Then he managed to pull it open and a burst of light came out.

Nate: Whoa!

Startled, Nate fell to the floor, dropping the capsule. He watched as the light remained in the air, and the silhouette of an egg-shaped ghost figure could be seen doing a dance of sorts in it.

Nate: What the heck is that?

Then the figure's features were revealed as the light died down. It was white, with blue lips and a black line connecting its eyes.

Whisper: Greetings, I am the Yokai butler Whisper at your service.

Nate: A...a yokai? But...I thought there was no such thing.

Whisper: Think again, my human friend! We yokai exist, but we cannot be seen by regular humans. We are often responsible for random occurrences such as falling asleep for no reason or tripping over nothing without you knowing it! We're quite extraordinary wouldn't you say?

Nate: But...you said only regular humans can see you. So how can I?

Whisper: Because since you freed me I am your butler and companion, and if a human can see a yokai without a yokai watch it means they share a powerful bond or relationship.

Nate: What's a yokai watch?

Whisper: Oh, of course! I completely forgot! Take this!

Whisper suddenly pulled out a strange-looking watch with a bubble on top protecting the face. It had weird patterns on it.

Whisper: This is the Yokai Watch, a genius invention created by a particular human who's name I cannot remember. This human built it to communicate with yokai and build a relationship between both our species. Now it is yours to wear.

Nate: But why would I want a yokai watch?

Whisper: To meet yokai and stop them causing trouble. And I will assist you every step of the way.

Nate: Cool...I guess.

Nate put on the watch, which he adjusted to perfectly fit to his arm.

Whisper: It suits you. Now let's hear about yourself.

Nate: Oh, right. I'm Nathan Adams, buy you can call me Nate. I live here in Springdale.
