INTRODUCTION TO KOREA:
KOREA is a mountainous peninsula surrounded by the sea on three sides. It shares its northern borders with China and Russia, and its closest southern neighbor is Japan, which lies across a narrow strait. The Korean peninsula measures approximately six hundred miles from its northern tip to its southern end.
Korea has had a tumultuous history, from warlords to Japanese invasions, the Korean War, and the Cold War, which ultimately led to the division of the Korean Peninsula. These events have shaped the modern Korea of today, which is now home to some of the leading consumer products and car makers in the world. Traditional Korea retains its colorful past and Korean cuisine, which despite its spiciness has become globally popular.
In ancient history, the Korean Peninsula was divided into three kingdoms, the Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla. The Silla became the first of three royal dynasties in Korean history, later followed by the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties.

Hangul was created under King Sejong during the Chosun Dynasty (1393-1910). in 1446, the first Korean alphabet was proclaimed under the original name Hunmin chong-um, which literally meant "the correct sounds for the instruction of the people."
