I opened my eyes and stared up at the solid oak canopy of my bed. I was not looking forward to today. My eyes traced down the green bed curtains and onto my bedside table, eventually, they found their way to a photo of my best friend Draco. I observed his blonde hair and grey eyes, and how they contrasted my brown hair and dark green eyes.
He looked so happy in the picture, I remembered the exact moment it was taken. It was on a rare occasion that Draco wasn't smiling because he had hurt, been rude to or humiliated someone, but because he was happy.
We had spent the day shopping at Diagon Alley and I met Draco's mother for the first time. We were both extremely nervous beforehand seeing as she had a strong dislike for my parents, although they were both dead.
According to Draco, her and my mother loathed each other, although i'll never know why seeing as my mother died when i was a baby so i can't exactly ask her. My father was a Death Eater, and a rubbish one at that. He failed almost every task the Dark Lord gave him, and instead of facing up to his mistakes, he hid like a coward until Voldemort was defeated. But the shame he brought on my family in the Slytherin wizarding community didn't stop there, he then proceeded to name fellow Death Eaters in front of the Ministry Of Magic, of course, this led to the idiot being killed, probably by one of the men or women he named. So I was left to be raised by my mother's best friend, Polly Parkinson. This wasn't all that bad, me and her daughter Pansy were in the same year and got on very well, but I never really fit in properly with the family and most of the time felt like an outsider, so i tended to spend most of my holidays at Hogwarts.
When I first saw Mrs. Malfoy I was quite anxious, but after Draco introduced us and got conversation started I soon learned she isn't as cold as she looks. We were so pleased with how the introduction went and that we were allowed to continue being friends that Pansy took a photo of us on her new camera to capture the moment. Suddenly, my reminiscing was interrupted.
"Ana we're going down for breakfast." Pansy peeked her head round the dormitory door.
"Okay I'll join you soon." I replied. I hopped out of bed, washed my face, cleaned my teeth, brushed my hair, and put on my school uniform. I looked at the time, I had twenty minutes to get breakfast before lessons started. I blew out my new scented candle and made my way down.
When I got to the Great Hall it was pretty empty, with just a few friend groups dotted around the four tables. I spotted mine and headed over.
"Nice of you to finally join us." Draco said without looking up from his newspaper.
"Aw did you miss me?" I teased.
"Of course not, I was rather enjoying the peace and quiet of your absence actually." He replied. I saw him glance at the last piece of toast, and then at me. Our hands both shot for the plate but neither of us were quick enough. Crabbe smiled proudly whilst holding the silver plate in his hand.
"Give it here you greedy pig, you've already had five!" Draco demanded.
"But I'm still hungry." Crabbe complained.
"That's not my problem." Draco said whilst snatching the plate from Crabbe's hand. To my surprise, he didn't eat the toast for himself, but offered it to me.
"Thank you." I smiled picking it up off the plate.
"You'd better hurry up and eat that Ana, we have potions in five minutes." Pansy urged me.
"What are we even doing in it today?" I asked.
"We're brewing amortentia." She grinned.
