My stomach churned as I looked over the sheet music. this always happened, at least with this piece. it seemed like more black occupied the pages than white. how was supposed to decipher this? much less play it & sound elegant or at least good.
"Are you okay?" Ray looked at me curiously, head tilted slightly. I nod. I didn't want to embarrass myself. He was an amazing musician, easily able to decipher something like this. I was not, i barely knew what i was doing. I didn't want him to be embarrassed that he was teaching such a lost cause.
"Are you sure?" he insists "you seem nervous. are you doing alright?" I shrug, letting myself be a little more honest."Let's take a break" he announces, smiling almost triumphantly.
"Oh, n-no that's fine. I'm good." I try to agrue. Ray lays his violin down on a nearby table, shaking his head.
"No, we should take a break, you've been working hard today, like always. you deserve a break." he smiles gently and gently tugs the violin and bow from my hands and puts it next to his.
"I mean, thank you but i swear I'm fine, i don't need a break" He pulls me out of the room gently by the wrist and sets me on the couch. I make no moves to resist. He was right, I did need a break
"Now stay here" he says, disappearing into the kitchen. There's some rustling around before he returns. He hands me a glass of water and opens a pint of ice cream excitedly while I drink the water provided to me. He hands me a spoon while he indulges himself with the first bite & sits next to me. We take a moment to just quietly share some ice cream, before we both had enough and it's put away.
"You feel any better?" He says returning next to me. I nod. "You have anything on you're mind still? I don't want you to be to overwhelmed with what I'm giving you or anything like that."
"I'm not good enough for the stuff you're giving me. It's just seems like I'm trying to read a language I don't know" He nods
"It all seems hard now, and I am pushing you a little with this one. But I wouldn't push you if I didn't think you could handle it. Besides, you have me to help & teach you. Don't hesitate to ask me anything or tell me if you need something; weather it be a break or just some clarification" He pauses for a second, putting a hand on my shoulder "I'm here for you." He smiles widely "Now, let's get back to practicing"
