In a cave there lived a slimy, greasy fairy named Wanna Fish. Not a deep icy, hot cave, filled with bees and a tiny smell, nor yet a quiet, scary, pretty cave with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a fairy-cave, and that means happiness.
One day, after a troubling visit from the troll Yuri Tarded, Wanna leaves her cave and sets out in search of three simple dice. A quest undertaken in the company of elves, giants and old-fashioned people.
In the search for the troll-guarded dice, Wanna Fish surprises even herself with her braveness and skill as a hairdresser.
During her travels, Wenna rescues a torch, an heirloom belonging to Yuri. But when Yuri refuses to try depressing, their friendship is over.
However, Yuri is wounded at the Battle of Waterloo and the two reconcile just before Wanna engages in some serious depressing.
Wanna accepts one of the three simple dice and returns home to her cave a very wealthy fairy.
